1. What is TOEFL?

TOEFL is an abbreviation for Test of English as a Foreign Language. It is a universally accepted test for English teaching institutions to access the students ability for English comprehension. The TOEFL test is aimed at nonnative English speakers; it is recognized by more than 7500 Universities worldwide. TOEFL tests your understanding of listening, reading, speaking, and writing of English language. It is a standardized test which means that a students score of 100 today is identical to the same score in the years past. It is a scaled score so all students taking the exam (regardless of the time) are characterized in the same manner.

4. Are there different types of TOEFL exams? Yes. There are three different types of TOEFL exams Internet based test (also known as iBT), Paper-based test, and Computer-based test. 5. Which one does CUSV recommend? CUSV recommends the IBT since it is readily available at more locations. However, Computer based test is also acceptable.

6. What are the requirements to take TOEFL? Any student, after graduating from a secondary school can take TOEFL. Students that have studied English as part of their schooling should have no trouble passing the test. 7. How long should I study for this test? As previously discussed, if your college materials are taught in English, it should be simple to take the test. The Educational Testing Service (ETS) also provides a sample in-home test at http://www.ets.org/toefl/ibt/prepare/sample_questions

8. When and where will I take the test? You need to make an online ETS profile in order to register for TOEFL. Score of 213 and above on the computer based test If you receive a lower score on TOEFL, we urge you to still apply for admission and describe the reasons in your personalized application.

10. What are TOEFL score comparison tables? Do I need to understand them? TOEFL was primarily a paper based test until 2006. As discussed above, the score scales are different too. For example, a student who took TOEFL in 2005 and received a score of 550 on the paper based test will rate differently on the Internet based test today. 11. What is TOEFL test day stress? Any physical or psychological fear that hampers your performance can be accounted as stress. People taking a long test like TOEFL may feel stressed that they may not perform well. However, do not be fearful. You have taken English language exams before, in secondary school and bachelors degree program. TOEFL is no different. It solely measures your ability to understand, read, write, and speak English.

12. Will CUSV accept TOEFL exams taken in the past? Yes, CUSV will accept your TOEFL exam score -as long as the score can be readily obtained.

13. How soon, after taking the test, will I receive my test score? TOEFL scores are posted on your ETS online profile within two weeks of your test-date.
