Applying the methods for a primary database In our project, we have used data summarizing and presentation, which

mean processing primary data. The data is collected for the first time and it will be represented in tables and graphs, using statistical methods for interpreting it. For this, we have used an internet survey, with Google Docs and sharing it on Facebook. We have done so because it is fastest and the least expensive method and because people give longer answers to open-ended questions on web page questionnaires than they do on other kinds of surveys. Additionally, through the Internet survey, sensitive or personal questions are best handled, due to the assured anonymity. As our project focuses on Facebook and Facebook users, the internet survey is appropiate since our target population consists entirely of Internet users, not to mention the popularity of this social network. Questions were introduced in a random order, so that it applies equally to all questions in a series. This way, we have chosen different types of questions. One of it would be the dichotomous question, which is a categorical question that has two possible responses. An example of this kind of question would be: What is your gender? . The data obtained is for informational and reporting purposes. Precise answers were offered, so that accurate data should be obtained. The demographic data is collected in order to observe the proportion on human genders, among the Facebook users and to notice if it is dominated by female or male users. Additionally, regarding the age, a dropdown list question was used, so that the respondent should choose the age interval that best reflects his or her age. This way, we examined the popularity of Facebook among users of different ages or genders. Moving on, another type of question that we used in the survey is the multiple choice; one of these is What motivates you to be friend with someone? ; this question reflects the openness of the interviewee to the world and his or her degree of socialization. Several answers are given and the one that best fits the interviewees condition is to be chosen. The proposal of answers takes into

account different circumstances, such as: previously knowing a person, online activity- blog/ Twitter, public persons, acquaintances, same activity field, popularity or just random following. Being offered these choices, the interviewed person has plenty of alternative answers to choose from. Additionally, the numerical question was also used in the survey, reflected in the question How many friends do you have at this moment on Facebook? . Various choices are offered to the interviewee and the answers were rationally chosen in order to avoid precise numbers. Analyzing the answers given, we might realize for how long he or she has been using Facebook and his or her openness or sorting degree, concerning friends on Facebook. If the respondent picks an answer from the beginning of the list, this reveals a cautious person, who pays a great deal of attention to his Facebook account, his friends and acquaintances, being extremely careful in the befriending process, on Facebook. The order of answers that were chosen for each question was intended to be a natural one, so that people would not tend to choose the ones from the beginning of the list, as they get through the survey. In order to reduce habituation, we changed the positive answer in some questions, such as For what purposes do you use Facebook? . Different solutions were offered in the list of answers, each of them being presented in a common way of looking at this issue. Therefore, socialization, getting or keeping in touch with someone, information, social media activity or creating valuable contacts were some of the factors that might have influenced the interviewee. We avoided presenting the main reason- socialization, as the best option; instead, we offered a wide range of possibilities, each being seen as a good thing to choose. Furthermore, for the last question of the survey, we wanted to gather data about Facebooks main competitors; for this, we have asked our interviewees about other social platforms that they use. The list of answers was presented in a checkbox, with randomized options, laid out vertically. Popular names of social networks were laid down for the respondents reply. The random listing of answers aims at not influencing the interviewed person, by not presenting the choices in a particular order.
