SCOPE OF INSPECTION
Shell and Dish Plates
Inspection scope
Carry out a B-Scan thickness survey of the shell plates consisting of 8 spaced Horizontal scans across the 9 courses and 2 spaced scans on the Roof Plates 1 horizontal and 1 vertical scan. The Shell plates were clean to a sufficient standard to allow a C-Scan inspection to take place; some area had paint coming off from the plates on the external surface.
Cleanliness
Results
The B-Scan data will be saved on a CD, the data will be analysed by Silverwing Africa (PTY) Ltd so that the measured minimum plate or wall thickness and measured average plate thickness and Nominal plate thickness (if provided by client) will be recorded and presented as a hard copy.
Restrictions
The width of each B-Scan is approximately 10mm. A single probe of 10mm Diameter and 5MHz.

PROCEDURE
1. Aim was to conduct an ultra-sonic B scan inspection on the external plates of the shell and external plates on the roof of Tank 22.
2. The shell was divided in 8 locations and vertical scans was done up the shell wall for all 9 streaks. Please refer to Gauging diagram for tank shell.
3. The roof was dived into 4 locations and a scan was taken from the outside diameter of the roof and the crawler was moved towards centre. Please refer to Gauging diagram for tank roof.
4. Manual UT was done around the tank to confirm the plate thickness and also on the roof plates. These reports are also attached to our report for future reference.
5. Observations noted while carrying out our inspection will also be added in our report. This was a visual inspection and not a physical inspection.
