CATALAC ACID CATALYSED LACQUERS

Description The CATALAC Range of furniture consists of Urea formaldehyde alkyd modified
fast curing acid catalysed lacquers proving high quality clear and pigmented acid
catalysed coatings which are available in various gloss (reflectance) levels ranging
from Gloss to dead matt. These finishes dry by a combination of solvent evapouration
and chemical reaction. The result of the chemical reaction is a hard, tough, and
solid film which is far more mar resistant than a conventional air-drying finish. These
lacquers are resistant to water spotting, cracking, yellowing. Not recommended for
exterior use.

Thinner/ Thinning Ratio: 1. Thin, if necessary to required viscosity ( 18 secs) with Solvent CFS 1113 for
general use.
2. Other specialised thinners and retarders are available on request. t is
essential that the viscosity is adjusted to the "ideal for the particular spraying
operation in hand. Viscosity determines inter alia.
delivery rate through spraying tip.
applied film thickness which in turnaffects:-
-hold up, ie vertical sag resistance
-solvents release, ie film must stay open long enough for 90% of solvents.
-consistency of finish, ie even gloss level etc.
-cost
potlife viscosity must be constant for the life of the mix to
control consistency of spray and reject rate.
Viscosity/temperature relationship (Ford 4)
-10 Deg C - 37 seconds
-15 Deg C - 29 seconds
-20 Deg C - 25 seconds
-25 Deg C - 22 seconds
-30 Deg C - 19,5 seconds
Note: We do not recommend the use of Lacquer thinner, since
this type of thinner can lead to disruption of previous coats.
Auxillaries: PotIife Extender (1185) - s used to extend potlife of left over mixes at
the end of the day. A suggested addition of 5% is recommended.
DebubbIe (2002) To eliminate solvent rash which may be encountered
in hot conditions. We recommend an addition of 50ml per 25ml (0.2%).
Anti-Curtain SpiIt / Fish Eye EIiminator (2003) An addition
of 200ml per 25ml (0.8%) is recommended where:
-Curtain splitting is encountered (low film with applications).
-Fish eyes are a problem (oil in air lines, greasy particles).
