Overview
The Humanity in Action Fellowship programs will run simultaneously from May 31 - June 30, 201 4. Programs are followed by the Humanity in Action International Conference, which will be held in Istanbul. Intensiv e and demanding, the Humanity in Action Fellowship brings together international groups of emerging minority rights leaders to ex plore div ersity issues, national histories of discrimination and resistance, as well as ex amples of issues affecting different minority groups today . Each program is highly interdisciplinary , and features daily lectures and discussions with renowned academics, journalists, politicians and activ ists. There is also a significant number of site v isits to gov ernment agencies, non-profit and community organizations, museums and memorials. The programs seek to bridge the gap between theory and practice, and highlight different models of action to remedy injustice. Since the point of departure in most Humanity in Action programs is the Holocaust and related issues of resistance and remembrance, Humanity in Action v alues the participation of Bosnian Fellows who bring an important perspectiv e giv en Bosnias recent history of v iolence, war and post-war challenges. Fellows from Bosnia and Herzegov ina are ex pected to participate in the BiH Senior Fellows Association once the Humanity in Action Fellowship programs endand to sustain their engagement in the issues addressed during the fellowship. T he deadline for applications is February 16, 2014.

Eligibility
Bosnian-and-Herzegov inian univ ersity students and recent graduates are welcome to apply , especially those committed to the promotion of human and minority rights, tolerance and intercultural understanding. Y ou are eligible to apply if: Y ou are a Bosnian and Herzegov inian univ ersity student (in y our second semester of studies at least) or a recent graduate (no earlier than 201 2) Y ou are proficient in English and BHS Y ou are knowledgeable about ongoing social, political and transitional trends in the country (and issues related to European Union accession). Y ou hav e interest in human and minority rights and the willingness to start or continue activ e civ ic participation by taking part in Humanity in Action activ ities in Bosnia and Herzegov ina Y ou possess strong communication skills Please note that short-term ex change students and doctoral students are not eligible to apply . Humanity in Action seeks applicants who are mature, proactiv e, self-reliant, ex perienced in grassroots activ ism and comfortable in intensiv e group activ ity and interaction. All majors and academic disciplines are encouraged to apply . Candidates who make it to the second round of the selection process will be informed about the date, time, and place for the interv iews v ia email.

Admission to the Humanity in Action Fellowship programs is ex tremely competitiv e.

The first selection is made based on the written application, which must include: Curriculum v itae Personal statement Clear answers to the fiv e questions listed in the application Action project proposal Please note that y our application must be submitted in English. Y ou should giv e y ourself enough time to assemble all the required application materials before the deadline. Make sure to check the application instructions and guidelines for further instructions. Based on the written application, sev eral candidates will be inv ited for a personal interv iew. During the interv iew, candidates will be ev aluated on the basis of their communication skills, personality traits, and ev idence of leadership potential and academic accomplishments preferably within Bosnian and Herzegov inian society . Humanity in Action does not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity , religion, party affiliation, gender or sex ual orientation.

Costs
Humanity in Action cov ers the costs of accommodation, transportation, meals and participation in program activ ities and prov ides a small amount of pocket money for the participants.

Program Details
Although the European Programs in Berlin, Amsterdam and Copenhagen all promote team research and debate on human rights and social justice in democratic societies, the focus of the programs differs slightly . Please see ex amples of past Humanity in Action programs to learn more about the content of the programs in Berlin, Amsterdam and Copenhagen.

Obligations and Opportunities: After the Fellowship

Action Projects As a requirement of participation, Fellows are obligated to conduct a hands-on outreach initiativ ean Action Projectin their home communities. The initiativ e should reflect the Humanity in Action fellowship ex perience. Upon successful completion, Fellows are inv ited to become Senior Fellows and to join the global Humanity in Action community . Professional Fellowship Opportunities Ev ery y ear, Humanity in Action places more than 50 Senior Fellows in professional fellowship programs and internships to prov ide practical ex perience working on human and minority rights. Ov er 230 Senior Fellows hav e completed Humanity in Action-sponsored internships since 1 999. Current professional fellowship opportunities include the Lantos-HIA Congressional Fellowship in Washington, DC and the Pat Cox -HIA Fellowship in the European Parliament. Bosnian-and-Herzegov inian Senior Fellows Association The Bosnian and Herzegov inian Senior Fellows Association was founded in 2008 and continues to be a growing and v ibrant organization. Bosnian and Herzegov inian Senior Fellows organize numerous ev ents and seminars, collaborate with one another in the implementation of their Action Projects, and are currently looking forward to welcoming new members to their association. There are similar Senior Fellows Associations in Denmark, France, Germany , The Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Poland and the United States. These Associations hav e dev eloped ov er the y ears into a global network of more than 1 300 Senior Fellows worldwide.
