MetroCount is very pleased to introduce the MC5720 Advanced Bicycle Counter. The MC5720 provides year-round monitoring of cyclists using dedicated bicycle paths via permanently embedded piezoelectric axle sensors. As with MetroCount's other axle-based classifiers, the MC5810 uses the time-stamping approach, precisely logging and retaining the start and end of every vehicle. And as always with MetroCount, it is supplied with MetroCount's Traffic Executive software at no extra charge!

The Ultimate in Bicycle Monitoring Accuracy

To reliably detect all bicycles, the MC5720 uses paired piezoelectric sensors permanently embedded in the pavement.

Piezoelectric sensors detect axles by responding to the momentary changes in pavement stress as vehicles pass. With bicycles, however, these stresses are extremely small. Nevertheless, MetroCount has developed proprietary techniques and algorithms to detect and process these tiny signals, enabling the MC5720 to consistently deliver high quality data and achieve the ultimate accuracy for bicycle monitoring.

The MC5720 a Hardware & Software System

Like all MetroCount traffic survey systems, the MC5720 is an intelligent combination of robust electronic hardware and world-leading software. MC5720 Roadside Unit The MC5720 Roadside Unit is the electronic instrument that registers the changes in pavement stress when bicycles pass. This unit time-stamps every bicycle axle with resolution less than one millisecond, storing all axle information. MTE Software Included The MC5720 system is supplied with MetroCount Traffic Executive (MTE) software. MTE examines the patterns of bicycle activity recorded by the MC5720 Roadside Unit and renders this information in a variety of formats. The algorithm is able to reject pedestrians and other non-bicycle activity. The algorithm can also distinguish and count individual bicycles in a cluster. Bicycles that are part of a cluster are marked in the output data. And, as always, MTE (current complete version) is included with the MC5720 at no extra charge.

MC5720 More Than Bicycle Counts

With two sensors installed in the cycleway, the MC5720 can produce much more information than simple bicycle counts.

MTE can display the analysed bicycle data in an almost endless variety of presentations and formats. These range from lists of individual bicycles to aggregated graphs showing long-term flow patterns. Data can be easily exported as text, or in database or spreadsheet formats.

FieldPod Remote Access Options

The MC5720 Advanced Bicycle Counter can be used in conjunction with the MetroCounts FieldPod Remote Access system. With FieldPod, the MC5720 uses MetroCounts battery-powered Remote Access Module to enable communication over the mobile telephone network via a MetroCount-managed Remote Access Server.
