Deputies and Alternates to Province VII Synod

Elect 4 Clergy Deputies and 4 Clergy Alternates; Elect 4 Lay Deputies and 4 Lay Alternates. Description of duties: As voting representatives of the diocese attend the meeting of the Synod of the Province of the Southwest (Province VII), to be held April 30-May 2, 2015, in Kansas City, Missouri. CLERGY The Rev. Michael Bertrand, Vicar, St. Peter and St. Paul, Mission Qualifications: Michael has not been to a Province Synod before and is interested in learning about the work done at that level. Local Church Activities: Vicar Diocesan Activities: In a previous diocese, Michael served at Diocesan Council, the committee for planning diocesan liturgy and music, and as a spiritual director to a youth event. In this diocese, he served as a spiritual director at Happening #126. He would like to be more involved with diocesan and national church events. Tommy Bye, Rector, St. Lukes, Cypress Mill Qualifications: Tommy is experienced in working with the broader church through serving as a local director on the Billy Graham Crusade, as a Trustee for the University of the South for six years, and as president of a local ecumenical ministerial association. He has been a parish rector for 17 years and canon in a diocesan cathedral for three years. Additional service has been in renewal ministries of Cursillo, Happening, and New Beginnings, and 16 years as youth summer camp chaplain. Sandra Casey-Martus, Rector, St. Stephens, Wimberley Qualifications: Sandy has a wide range of experience in the Episcopal Church, having worked as clergy, speaker, and retreat leader across the nation. She also has experience as director of Christian education, teacher, choir director, author, director of campus ministry, and adjunct seminary faculty. Canon Joann Saylors, DWTX Qualifications: As a diocesan staff member, Joann has a broad perspective on wider church issues, as well as relationships within Province VII. Diocesan Activities: In addition to deployment and congregational development responsibilities, Joann serves as ex-officio on diocesan deployment, compensation, and insurance committees and chairs the Committee on Status of Parishes and Missions. The Rev. Patrick Soule Rector, St. Helenas, Boerne Qualifications: Patrick has a passion for being involved in the council of the church and a passion for staying engaged in discussions and working toward reconciliation. Nancy Springer Asst. Rector, St. Johns, McAllen Qualifications: Nancy has taken her experience as a technical writer/curriculum developer/corporate trainer prior to ordination, along with her extensive church volunteer and committee experience, and seeks to utilize this experience on behalf of the Church. Local Church Activities: Assistant Rector, with all the duties, responsibilities, joys, and activities that entails. Prior to ordination, she served on Vestry, various church committees, and as a delegate to Council. Diocesan Activities: Ordained since June 2012. Both prior to and since ordination, Nancy has served as teacher, chaplain and dean at Camp Capers. She has business experience in commercial real estate and as a small business owner. Connie has the ability and desire to listen to parishioners ideas for our 16

diocese and represent them well. Roger is a lawyer, portfolio manager, financial planner, and a real estate investor.
