This braille-terminal allows visually impaired operators to work with the SuperVisor operator console model 35. The dedicated layout and the fully automatic cursor tracking mechanism allows the visually impaired operator to make full use of all the functions and features available to a sighted operator, including busy lamp field display. SOPHO SuperVisor is a range of products and services designed for operators, fulfilling today's service level requirements through increased call handling efficiency. 40 Character braille display of compact design automatic cursor tracking with manual override supports most international Braille code sets supports all functions of the operator console model 35 built-in test facility.

Main Characteristics
GENERAL FEATURES The braille-terminal is a table-top unit which interfaces with the operator console model 35 via a single cable. No changes or add-ons are necessary in the console itself. The icon-based user interface on the console is represented on the braille display as a page of 24 lines each having 2 x 40 characters. Automatic cursor tracking ensures that the relevant line number is displayed, e.g in case of a DDI-fail call, line 3 which contains all information on the called party is displayed. Any other line can however be displayed using the keypad in the braille-terminal.

The Braille line has the following format:

The first 4 characters are status characters, followed by 1 space and 40 information characters. The first 2 characters from the left hand side indicate which line of the LCD-display of the Supervisor 35 is displayed at the Blind Operator's Terminal. There follows a space (3rd character). The 4th character from the left hand side indicates whether it is the content of the right half (R) or the left half (L) of the 80 character LCD display line which is being displayed. (Horizontal line shift) There follows a space (5th character). The 6th to 45th characters (40 characters) show half the content of the respective LCD display line. Description of the performance characteristics: International fonts for 8 dot Braille code. With inversely displayed information, the lower right dot of the Braille module is set in addition (dot 8). In the case of cursor positions, the cursor is displayed with all 8 dots set. With the H key, it is possible to jump horizontally (the left or right 40 characters). The Blind Operators' Terminal shows the display texts provided by the system PHILIPS SOPHO-S SUPERVISOR 35 in Braille code. The text memory of the Blind Operators' Terminal offers the operator 25 lines of 80 characters each for display. The lines are arranged in a sequence from top to bottom beginning with 01. If the system writes new information in the line just chosen, however, the information which has just been processed is over-written. The operator can at any time directly access every line offered by means of dialling 01 to 25. The line 25 is only of importance for servicing purposes. The cursor position can be reached by actuating the *-key. A short actuating of the cursor down key (line down key) dials the next higher line. Optically seen, this refers to the next lower line of the LCD display. By keeping this key pressed, the operator selects step by step one higher line after the other until line 25 is reached and the process is ended here. For the cursor up key (line up key), the process applies correspondingly in reverse. Each key command is acknowledged acoustically by means of a beep when it has been accepted and is processed. Operator errors are acknowledged with a multiple beep. If a key is pressed for too short or too fast a time in sequence, no acknowledgement is given, and the command is not carried out. Each shift into another line by actuating or holding the line up / line down keys is indicated acoustically.
