1. Svay Rieng Water and Sanitation Cooperation Project (WatSan)
The overall objective is to expand the coverage of improved water supplies and sanitation facilities to
underserved population of Romeas Hek and Romduol Districts, Svay Rieng Province, and to improve
health and hygiene practices related to water bone diseases and diseases and sanitation.

 During this reporting period, The WatSan Project has constructed and
distributed 103 latrines to 481 people including 248 women and 115
children living in 19 Villages of Pong Toeuk and Bos Mon communes,
Rumdoul district and Tras, Koki and Daung Communes, Romeas Hek
district while other 685 bio-sand filters were also constructed and
distributed to other 671 households, three administration police stations,
four military police stations along the shared boarder of Vietnam and
Cambodia, six in Daung primary school and one for Porn kindergarten with
benefiting to at least 1672 people (279 females) in a total who are the
residents in the target villages, polices, teachers and students.

 Nine different coordination meetings were held during the quarter with
various government departments and authorities like Department of
Agriculture, Rumdoul and Romeas Hek district Governors, health centers,
CDFs and chiefs of commune councils. The topics were proposed training
on vegetable growing, local capacity for peace, as well as collecting of
diarrhea, scabies, typhoid and stomach ache statistics to compare between
2005 and 2009 to see the impact of water and sanitation program in Duang,
Tras, Koki and Pong Teuk communes.

Basing on the meetings:


o Two “local capacity for peace” training courses were conducted
with 57 village leaders (21 women), CDFs and WSUG members of
25 target villages attended.

o Four training courses on vegetable growing were conducted in


collaboration with Provincial Department of Agriculture with 120
vulnerable people (49 women) from 20 target villages of Tras,
Koki, Daung, Bos Mon, Pong Toek Communes attended.

o 25 education courses on bio-sand filter use, maintenance and


sanitation were conducted with 695 residents (261 women) from 18
target village of Koki and Duang commune attended.

o Two monthly consultative meeting were conducted between CDFs


and CWS staff on quality implementation of the Project and next
month plan.

o 3 training courses on Leading and Managing Rural Organization


were conducted with 84 WSUG members (31 women) in 40
villages of Daung, Koki and Tras, Bos Mon and Pong Toek
communes attended.

 Seven awareness raising courses on clean water use, general hygiene and
sanitation were conducted with 119 community people including 83
women from Koki and Tavaing villages, and 39 teachers including seven
female teachers and 751 school children from Porn, Daung, Chea Theach,
Tayorn and Tasuos primary schools attended.

 In addition to the accomplishments above, with external relations, the


Project staff had attended; awareness meeting on Rural Water and
Sanitation Supply Project under the IMF returned funds presided over by
H.E Chea Sophara, Minister of Ministry of Rural Development, Water and
Sanitation sectoral Working Group meeting at the Ministry of Rural
development, the inauguration ceremony of Svay Rieng Provincial
Councils, and the International Children’s Day celebration.

2. Village Based Community Development Project (VBCD)
The overall objective is to develop the communities’ capacity to define their development direction and
improver them to meet their basic need; access to basic services; sustainable livelihood opportunities
and food security in Kompong Thom and Preah Vihear provinces.
 During the reporting period, The Village Based Community Development
Project in Kompong Thom and Preah Vihear province in collaboration with
the UN World Food Program had distributed supplementary food to 894
children (439 girls) under 24 months, 241 pregnant women, 302 lactating
mothers, 867 mothers of children aged from 6-24 months and 68 VHVs (33
women) in 30 target villages of the Kompong Thom and Preah Vihear
Project. A total 23,040 Kg of CSB powder, 130,350 Kg of white rice, and
1,190 Kg of vegetable oil and 2,480 Kg of sugar. In addition, the Project
staff and VHVs also conducted awareness raising regarding to nutrition and
how to improve their health through using existing resources they can find in
their yards to cook.

 79 absolute poor families received various supports from the Kompong


Thom Project such as seven water sprinklers with benefiting seven
households in Thmei and Somrong villages, emergency kit ( including white
rice, fish sauce, soybean sauce, and vegetable oil) benefiting to a fire
victimized family at Tumnob village, 50 kilograms of white rice is given to a
food shortfall family in Tumnob village, one house in Beng village was
successful construction with metal nails, gasoline and oil supports, 60 young
banana plants were also distributed to other five families living in Beng
village to grow in their yards, and as well as other two small businesses on
grocery selling and barbershop were assisted to setup in Choam Thnanh and
Thmei villages.

Moreover, The Preah Vihear Project also provided capital amounted 310,000
riel to two absolute poor families (13 members including 8 women) to sell
vegetables and cakes while other nine vulnerable families with 46 household
members including 22 women were received emergency relief aid. Each
family received 25 kilogram of white rice, one bottle of fish sauce, one liter
of vegetable oil, one kilogram of iodine salt, two kilograms of sugar, one
water container and a kettle. Additionally, 338 families in Sra Em Camp who
left their homes as Thai-Cambodian border tension were received aid basing
on their actual household size, history of previous assistance and current
needs. 306 tents, 3,755 canned fish, 341 ceramic water filters, 450 mosquito
nets, 338 mats, 676 pieces of soap, 338 packs of detergent, 527 Sarong and
527 scarves and 283 blankets. The distribution was done under the Rapid
Response Fund of Action by Churches Together (ACT) International.

 One Community Nursery for Beng village was founded with supporting
from the Project. Two water baskets, two water sprinklers, six kilograms of
plastic bag, mango and jack fruit seeds were provided.

 Two filing cabinets and many reading books were given to two community
libraries in Beng and Thmei villages while 39 books (12 different titles)
relating to Khmer culture and art that CWS staff received from Reyum
Institute was distributed to an high school and two secondary schools basing
in Preah Vihear Project’s target area.

 92 biosand water filters, 58 latrines, and 16 hand pump wells were


constructed, installed and founded platforms with benefiting to at least 274
households and 200 students (76 girls) in Preah Vihear target areas while
another hand dug well in Choam Boeng village of the Kompong Thom
Project was helped to upgrade with benefiting to at least 15 households
living around. In addition, another culvert was constructed in Choam Boeng
with benefiting to about 141 families living around.

 245 residents (209 women) in nine target villages of Sroeung commune were
aware about dengue fever and malaria by health center staff and VHVs while
CWS staff worked with village peer educator to conduct one day awareness
raising on HIV/AIDs and the importance of using birth spacing to 116
villagers (99 women) in three target villages namely Sre, Chat Tiang and
Tuek Krohom.

 358 households of four target villages, Tipou commune were vaccinated


three types of vaccination to protect their 869 livestock against diseases.

 90 soaps, 30 handkerchiefs, 24 toothbrushes and 15 nailcutters were


provided as gifts to some students among 361 (125 girls) from three different
primary schools of Beng, Chrom Boeung and Tumnob villages who attended
an awareness raising on water, sanitation and hygiene, organized by VHVs in
coordination with the Project staff.

 12 Self Help Groups (three in Tipou) were constantly followed up to


strengthen their saving and investing capacity. Each group received cashbox
and lock from the Project during this quarter. Of the Groups, six amongst
with 106 group members (82 women) already evaluated.

Similarly, 12 SHG member from two different Self Help Groups in Kok
Sralao village were attended a two-day training on the SHG Concepts.

 17 residents (13 women) living in three different target villages of Sroeung


and Tipou communes were received a two-day training course on fish raising
from the Project staff after they were finished digging their household water
pond through food for work theme.

 The Kompong Thom Project staff had organized and attended four
coordination meetings with PDRD staff, Provincial health department,
Commune Council Women Network and PLAU/Excom on VDC candidate
assessment for reelection, MOU between the Project and PHD, quarter
meeting of commune council women network, and refresher training on
Community Integration Planning.

 A three-day training on Leading & Managing Rural Organization was


conducted with 19 participants (five women) who are the village leaders,
commune councilors from six target villages of Sreoung and Tipou
communes attended while another three-day training called Local Capacity
for Peace also conducted with 19 participants (five women) who are CPVs.
VDCs, VLs, police officers, and CC from target villages of above communes
attended.

 A one-day meeting on Commune Based Disaster Risk Response was


conducted with 23 participants (10 women) who are the RCVs and CCs from
eleven target village of Sroeung and Tipou communes attended while
another training course on Emergency Response and Preparedness was also
conducted with 20 participants amongst RCVs and CCs from the above
target villages attended.

 Two prayer group members, one commune council, and another project field
staff attended a three-day workshop on Social Changed at Kompong Cham
province. In addition, material supports such as calculators, books, pens,
rulers and cashbooks (small & medium) had provided to two prayer groups
with benefiting to 89 group members.
 33 people (11 women) of VDCs, VLs, and CCs from 11 target villages of
Sroeung commune attend a day quarterly meeting held at Tumnob village
while the same meeting also conducted at Preah Vihear Project’s target area
with 21 VDCs (nine women), seven village leaders (two women) and one
CC in three target communes attended.

 Two different one day semester meetings were conducted at the Kompong
Thom Project’s target area with 38 participants (13 women) who are VHVs,
VLs, HC staff, NFE teachers, CCs and district educational officers attended
to make a presentation of achievements, review work plan, discuss related
issues and as well as finding solutions to improve their next semester work.
Similarly, One day annual workshop was organized by the Preah Vihear
Project with 57 participants (one woman) comprising of 24 VDCs (eight
women), 12 village leaders (one woman), seven CCs (one woman), police
officer, staff of department of women affairs, PDRD staff, and officer from
district government level. The meeting focused on the early achievement, the
area of improvement, opportunity for development in their committees and
lesions they have learned through the year.

 In collaboration with Choam Ksant District Education Office, schoolteachers


of Kok Sralao, Choam Ksan, Sre and Tuek Krohorm primary schools, The
International Children’s day was celebrated with 800 students (480 girls)
participated.
