Preparing for Worship January 26 third Sunday after epiphany

We Need You: We Need Your Giving

We Need You!
Winter Worship Series In the coming weeks, we will explore together practices that we as individuals are called to engage in so that we may strengthen and grow our church. They are practices that the church needs from you; and in profound ways, they are also critical to the practice of your own personal faith, and the stewardship of your gifts. The Church needs you, and as we seek a way to be faithful with our gifts, we find that we indeed need the Church! We Need You: We Need Your Giving, January 26 (Matthew 25.14-30) We Need You: We Need Your Leadership, February 2 (Romans 12.1-8) We Need You: We Need Your Creativity, February 9 (Psalm 150)

Rev. Matthew Sturtevant

Scripture: Matthew25.14-30

With Gratitude
Dear FBC friends, my family and I are so grateful for the beautiful memorial service for Susan. We have been surrounded by your love and caring thoughtfulness, and we so appreciate our church family. Our church is made up of so many talented, hard working, caring people, and I'm so happy we could all be involved with remembering Susan's life. Thank you! John Jones

Theologian in Residence Visiting Scholar

Since 2001, Faith communities in Lawrence, Topeka, Baldwin City, and Kansas City along with specific departments at KU, Baker University and Washburn University have coordinated and supported acclaimed speakers for presentations and dialogue on issues of faith and questions of religion. Typically, the presenter stays for 3-4 days and involves both the academic and faith communities. The next Theologian in Residence will be William Brown, author of The Seven Pillars of Creation: The Bible, Science, and the Ecology of Wonder and William Marcellus McPheeters Professor of Old Testament at Columbia Theological Seminary, a Presbyterian (USA) related school in Decatur, Georgia. Brown has written extensively in response to the question, How do we interpret the Bible today in the light of science? He understands it is through science we see ourselves as an integral part of creation, not just in the world but also of the world.

Womens RetreatMarch 7-9, 2014 Spots still available!

Contact the church office to register for the Womens Retreat. The total cost is $140. We do not want cost to prohibit anyone from attending. Please contact Pastor Meredith if you would like to attend but need financial assistance. We will be using selections from Barbara Brown Taylors An Altar in the World as our guide for the weekend. From the inside cover: From simple practices as walking, work ing, and getting lost, to deep meditations on topics like prayer and pronouncing blessings, Taylor reveals concrete ways to discover the sacred in the small things we do and see. Pastor Meredith will be our guide through the book selections for the weekend. April Hite and Kimberly Sturtevant are also working to plan the weekend, which is sure to be a fun and meaningful time away.
