TURNINGPOINT CHURCH READING PLAN 2014 TERM 1 Monday 27th January to Friday 21st February

PRAYER AND FASTING

Welcome to 2014. We are ready to embark on a journey we are calling - 20/20 VISION. We will have readings from Monday Friday with Saturday and Sunday reflecting on the Vision / Motivation of TurningPoint. To get the most from 20/20 Vision, set aside 2 specific times of 20 minutes each day. 20 minutes to read and reflect on the reading, memory scripture and meditation and a separate 20 minutes each day as a Prayer time. It is always more effective if the same time each day is selected. Just imagine what is going to happen if we combine the 20 minutes of Prayer with the 20 scripture and reading God will release us from the old habits that hold us back and renew us with His power to live our lives in the fullness He has for us. Prayer is the communication between God and the believer. It is two-way communication that requires listening, speaking and trusting. A simple way to pray to God is to use the ACTS of prayer: A Adore. Address and acknowledge God for the great God that He is (i.e. God my Father, Wonderful Counsellor, Awesome God, My God, etc.) C Confess your sins. 1 John 1:9 states that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. This is the believers assurance that God will not hold our sins against us if we confess them to Him and ask for His forgiveness. T Thank God for what He has already done in your life! Enter into the Lords presence with thanksgiving in your heart, knowing that He hears and answers your prayers. S Make your Supplications/requests known to God. After you have adored, confessed and thanked God, you are now in a position to petition God on your behalf. Fasting is the greatest spiritual discipline for seeking Gods intervention. The normal fast is going without food for a definite period, during which you ingest only liquids. An absolute fast allows no food or water at all, and should be for a short period of time. A partial fast is one that omits certain foods or is on a schedule that includes limited eating. It may consist of omitting one meal a day. Eating only fresh vegetables for several days is also a good fast. Always seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit before you begin your fast! Be blessed.

Your Fasting Guide - Like prayer and Bible reading, fasting is one of the spiritual disciplines of followers of Jesus. The next few paragraphs are here to help you get your mind around fasting, and help you get started in this powerful Christian habit! What is fasting? - Biblical fasting is, very simply, denying oneself food for the sake of seeking and honouring God, prayer is connecting with God; fasting is disconnecting ourselves from the World. You can fast from other things that keep you connected to the World, things like TV, video games, social networking, chat rooms and more. Why should I fast? - Over time, its very easy for our souls to get gunked up. Fasting is a way to give our bodies and our souls a deep cleaning. When we do, we find that not only do we feel better, but as we draw closer to God, we are more in tune with His voice. How do I fast? - There are several different types of fasts. In this guide and over these next twenty days of 20/20 VISION, we have laid out a plan that will help you detach from some of the distractions of everyday life. This twenty day plan also involves cutting out some food items, and throws in a few days where you only drink liquids and other days where youll eat just fruits and vegetables. The plan provided in this guide is just that a guide. Feel free to mix it up, or create your own or add above the guide. The main thing is remember dont make this time all about what you eat, or dont eat. This is all about drawing closer to God and replacing some of our common distractions with time to pray, read our Bibles and seek God like never before. How should I prepare to fast? - For a 1-day fast, it doesnt take much preparation. Its best to slow down your eating before the fast, then pick it back up slowly by eating small, simple foods. For a longer fast, DEFINITELY prepare this way. Its smart to plan ahead and make sure youll have plenty of the fruits, vegetables, juices, etc. on hand. If not, youre likely to overeat at your next meal, and thats never a good choice! What should I do while fasting? - Drink lots of water. Pray. Read your Bible. Worship and Praise God. Listen to worship music. Set a journal to record what God is saying to you. Lengths of Fasting in Scripture: 1. Half-Day: see Judges 20:26, Acts 10:30 2. Three Days: see Acts 9:9, Esther 4:15-16 3. Seven Days: see 1 Samuel 31:13 4. Fourteen Days: see Acts 27:33 5. Twenty One Days: see Daniel 10:3 6. Forty Days: see 1 Kings 19:8, Luke 4:1-2 NOTE: The length of the fast should be dependent on three factors 1. Your health, 2) Gods leading, and 3) Type of fast. USING WISDOM IS ALWAYS IMPORTANT IN FASTING. Prayerlessness is a sin according to 1 Sam. 12:23. Each day during your fast/s, we encourage you to keep a daily journal. Write any revelations that God gives you about yourself and about life in general.

Day One Monday 27th January 2014 Suggested FAST from Caffeine Drinks and TV. My FAST today is BE MORE...PRAYERFUL Scripture Reading: Luke 18 From the time that we were old enough to repeat words, we, as parents, grandparents, Sunday school teachers and/or day-care providers, need to teach that, to communicate with God, we need to know that without repentance the passage of prayer can be restricted. When we used repeated words like God is great; God is good before we ate our meals and Now I lay me down to sleep before we went to bed, they were actually teaching us to pray; even if, at the time, we really didnt understand what we were saying or doing. Many of us thought that prayer was something that could only be done at the side of the bed, while on our knees. However, as we have grown older and matured in the Lord, we now know that prayer can be done anywhere and at any time during the day or night. In the Bible we have read many accounts of how prayer changed people and/or situations, which was the result of Gods Word being spoken back to Him. Basically, praying Scripture gives you the same authority over Satan as when Christ prayed against him, making this method of prayer helpful in creating an intimate relationship with the Creator. So, in whatever situation you find yourself, whether you need healing, strength, wisdom, a financial blessing or a desire to simply pray for someone else, remember that God admonishes us to come boldly before the throne of grace. Meditation: Prayer is the best way to make your requests known unto the LORD. So, remember to P.U.S.H - Pray Until Something Happens! Scripture to Memorise: Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. Luke 18:1 My 20/20 Prayer request for today is.

Day Two Tuesday 28th January 2014 Suggested FAST from Caffeine Drinks and TV. My FAST today is BE MORE... WILLING Scripture Reading: Isaiah 6 Have you ever found something you enjoy doing? Perhaps, you learned how to cook, sew, or draw. Maybe you delight in baking, writing or reading, or taking pictures. Because you love doing those things, if ever you were asked to bake a cake, or draw a picture, you were willing to do so. No one had to push you or plead with you to do it; you just did it. You even rearranged your schedule to accommodate your interests. That is how God wants us to be with Him. He desires us to be willing to do, go and say anything for Him. Be willing to spend some time with Him, study His word and sit in His presence. He will never push Himself on us. He is always there for us: willing to hear us, comfort us, protect us, love us, provide for us, guide us and more. In fact, He was willing to die for us. In the scripture, the prophet Isaiah came to a clearer understanding of who God was in his life. He recognized that this Holy God wanted a real relationship with this sinful man. Realizing the magnitude of Gods power, when the Lord needed someone to go to make the heart of the people fat, Isaiah said immediately, here I am, send me. Meditation: Today, listen to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Scripture to Memorise: Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, who shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me. Isaiah 6:8 My 20/20 Prayer: What am I willing to do for God as a result of 20/20

Day Three Wednesday 29th January 2014 Suggested FAST from Caffeine Drinks and TV. My FAST today is BE MORE... TRUSTING Scripture Reading: Proverbs 3: Why is it so difficult for us to completely trust the Lord? He promised us that he would take care of us and supply all of our needs. No one else has ever made such promises. God wants us to trust Him without doubt, hesitation or worry. Whatever you need from Him, put it in the hands of our Lord. He can handle it. Correction and discipline are never comfortable, but they both have a way of developing our personal growth. As difficult as it may be, try to learn from those experiences. Proverbs shows us clearly that if we handle these situations properly, we grow in wisdom. Yet when we are left to ourselves and dont follow the correction given to us, we are actually hurting ourselves more and more. Look at the last time you got punished for something, what can you learn from that experience? Take what you have learned and apply it to your life, and be thankful for the lesson you were able to take from it. The key is to remember Gods promises to us. He is always with us giving us His strength, and nothing can ever separate us from His mighty hands! Looking back, what events have you been through where you couldve trusted God more and how might the result changed? How does that affect the way you will face challenges in the future? Meditation: What things have you asked God to handle? If He did it before, then He will do it again. Scripture to Memorise: Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 My 20/20 Prayer: In what areas do I need to trust God to gain a good 20/20 VISION for 2014

Day Four Thursday 30th January 2014 Suggested FAST from Caffeine Drinks and TV. My FAST today is BE MORE... PURPOSEFUL Scripture Reading: Proverbs 6: Several years ago a story appeared in a devotional about a man who wrapped his diamond ring in a napkin and mistakenly Upon realizing his mistake, he chased the transfer station and proceeded to weed find the ring. It took him about an hour to task. His mind was on that one thing: well-known wifes 3.5 carat threw it in the trash. trash truck to its through the trash to accomplish this finding the ring.

As children of God, we have to purposely seek Him every day. We have to find God in every situation. We have to get the understanding of who God is and what He is trying to accomplish through us. Our God is so worthy of all our honour, love and devotion, yet He gives us the ability to choose to do so, willingly. There is nothing more satisfying than living life with God at our centre. Yet many times, we allow other things to settle in and become the focus of our worship. Setting aside time like during 20/20 VISION prayer & fasting and personal devotion gets us more in tune with God. If things have gotten a bit out of place, we can put them back into alignment as we draw closer to God. Is God the top priority in your life today? If not, what is taking His place? How can you restore Him to that place of honour He desires? See God as that precious jewel that you do not want to lose under any circumstance. Always keep him in sight! Meditation: I will worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness as I strive for a deeper understanding of Him. Scripture to Memorise: Happy is the man that finds wisdom, and the man that gets understanding. Proverbs 3:13 My 20/20 Prayer: Am I living my life on purpose

Day Five Friday 31st January 2014 Suggested FAST from Caffeine Drinks and TV. My FAST today is BE MORE... DISCIPLINED Scripture Reading: Philippians 3: Have you ever wondered what is so different about the person that makes a determination to excel? Have you noticed how runners in a race all run like they have already won? Some start out fast; some pace themselves at a slower rate, and then there are those who seem to take it in stride, confident that they will accomplish what they set out to do. They never give up before the race is over. Practice makes perfect is a true saying and runners adopt this attitude by disciplining themselves to be ready for whatever challenge lies ahead. They can run in the heat, the rain, and even cold weather. Their bodies have been disciplined to withstand the elements. So, too, the Apostle discipline ourselves by can not only stay in the a way that brings glory believer is achieved Word, and allow the guide us. Paul reminds us to the Word of God so that we race, but also complete it in to God. Discipline for the when we read and obey the Holy Spirit to lead and

Discipline yourself today to let Gods Will for your life be your will and act on it daily. Meditation: Lord, teach me how to submit myself every day to your Will. Scripture to Memorise: I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:14 My 20/20 Prayer: What will I do today to be more disciplined

Day Six Monday 3rd February 2014 Suggested FAST Sugar Drinks and Social Media. My FAST today is BE MORE... FORGIVING Scripture Reading: Matthew 6: How often do we utter the words, Lord, forgive me or God forgive me for ? Do we really understand what we are saying? When we request forgiveness from God, we are actually positioning ourselves to forgive others, that we ourselves may obtain forgiveness. The forgiveness that we request from God is relational meaning that we get what we give. Jesus when asked what is the greatest commandment: loving God completely, and loving others as much as yourself. One of the greatest expressions of love is that of forgiving. God loved the world, so he gave us His son. (John 3:16) God lovedand God gave. One of the best ways we can show the love of God to others is to give them the right to hold unforgiveness. In what areas of your life are you holding back and why? In what ways could you show the love of God to others? In the prayer that Jesus taught His disciples, He says, Forgive our debts as we forgive our debtors which translates to As often as I forgive others, please Lord, forgive me! If we are honest, how many times would we really gain forgiveness? In verse 14, Jesus simply assures us that forgiveness, no matter what we have done, thought or said, is guaranteed if we allow for weakness in others. Today, remember the golden rule and do unto others as you would have others do unto you; forgive. Meditation: Resolve in yourself to forgive. Scripture to Memorise: And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you; Matthew 6:12, 14 My 20/20 Prayer: Whom do I need to forgive?

Day Seven Tuesday 4th February 2014 Suggested FAST Sugar Drinks and Social Media. My FAST today is BE MORE... JOYFUL Scripture Reading: I Thessalonians 5 Some time ago there was a service at a mens correctional facility in which seven preachers spoke on seven sayings of Jesus. One of the preachers was led to speak on the word joy. The preacher then asked himself, how can one talk about joy to those who are incarcerated? Then, the answer came by the Holy Spirit, saying, dont focus on the environment but focus on the Word that produces joy. We as Christians must be confident in the joy we have through Christ Jesus. Regardless of the circumstances in which we find ourselves, the Word of God holds for us treasures of joy. Treasures that remind us that, the joy of the Lord is our strength; ~Nehemiah 8:10 in His presence is the fullness of joy; ~Psalm 16:11 and to, rejoice evermore. ~I Thessalonians 5:16. Praying Ephesians 3:14-21 Father, In the name of Jesus, I praise and thank You that You saved me for a purpose, and that You have a plan for my life that exceeds my most imaginative hopes and dreams. For that reason, Father, I bow my knee to You, the God of heaven and earth from whom Your whole family receives Your name. I pray that by Your glorious riches You would strengthen me on the inside through the power of Your Holy Spirit and that Christ would truly live in my heart and live through me by my faith in You. Help me to understand with all of the saints the breadth, length, depth, and height of Your love which surpass all knowledge. Fill me with all of Your fullness, Your wisdom, strength, and power, so that I would live constantly to Your glory! Now unto You, Father, who is able to do exceedingly far above all that I ask or can imagine, be the glory in the church through Christ Jesus throughout all the ages and forever. Amen! Meditation: Purpose to be joyful no matter what life brings. BE MORE JOYFUL! Scripture to Memorise: Rejoice evermore. I Thessalonians 5:16 My 20/20 Prayer: How can I remain joyful?

Day Eight Wednesday 5th February 2014 Suggested FAST Sugar Drinks and Social Media. My FAST today is BE MORE... TRUTHFUL & HONEST Scripture Reading: Luke 16 God wants to building character and hold us accountable for our actions. When we think about the financial downfall which has caused many of us to lose jobs and to give up things we enjoyed to maintain a stable life, it is very easy to resort to dishonesty and unethical behaviour. If we continue being truthful and honest with God, ourselves, God will honour our faithfulness and bless us. Truth and honesty enables us to have peace of mind, maintain self-respect and allows us to serve God and others. When we are truthful and honest with God, who knows all things, He will trust us with more. Also have you ever realized that some things just arent what they seem? We often have a tendency of exaggerating what is real and letting our minds play tricks on us. Maybe you notice that you get really angry when you shouldnt, or find yourself lusting after someone or something. God tells us that we must take each thought captive and make it obedient to Christ. We must be able to know the difference between a lie and a truth in our mind, so that we can control what we think about, and experience the freedom and power that God gives us over our flesh. What do you think take each thought captive really means? Make a list of the negative thoughts that you have experienced and next to them write a truth, or a promise that God gives us.(For example: Lie I am not very good looking and there is nothing special about me. Truth I am beautiful, am a God singer, and God made me perfect in His image for a specific purpose.) Meditation: Today purpose to Be More truthful and honest with God, self, and others. Scripture to Memorise: If you have not been trustworthy with someone elses property, who will give you property of your own? Luke 16:12 My 20/20 Prayer: How can I can be more truthful and honest?

Day Nine Thursday 6th February 2014 Suggested FAST Sugar Drinks and Social Media. My FAST today is BE MORE... KIND-HEARTED Scripture Reading: Ephesians 4:
Various media such as the news, newspaper, and the internet show us there are many unkind people in the world. In addition, there are those who ignore the less fortunate and treat them as if they dont exist. Some never have a kind word to say about others. Sadly, sometimes we find unkind people in the Christian community, but that is not the behaviour that God expects from His children. Most of us have heard that old saying that what goes around comes around. Whatever you put into a relationship or anything is what youll get out of it. We have to be intentional each day to only speak words of encouragement and kindness into others, because that is exactly what we need and want for ourselves. Yes, this sort of discipline can become extremely difficult at times, but do not lose heart because we will be greatly rewarded in Gods time. Who are the people in your life you could speak words of encouragement and love to? What will you say in your next encounter with them? Kindness is a command from God and is the fifth virtue listed in the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22). It is kindliness that puts others at ease, and shrinks from giving pain. It demands that one consider anothers feelings and seeks to enhance ones joy, rather than to make one unhappy. As Christians, we should desire to help, and not hurt. The Bible admonishes us not only to treat others as we want to be treated, but to show yourself friendly if you want to gain a friend. We need Gods kindness and compassion in our lives in to be a blessing, and not a curse to someone else. So show kindness to a neighbour, colleague, stranger or friend because you never know what a person might be going through. order

Meditation: Kindness is free! When we are kind to others, God will be kind to us. Scripture to Memorise: Become useful and helpful and kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another as God in Christ forgave you. Eph 4:32 My 20/20 Prayer: I will show kindness by

Day Ten Friday 7th February 2014 Suggested FAST Sugar Drinks and Social Media. My FAST today is BE MORE... ENLIGHTENED Scripture Reading: I Corinthians 10:1
Many times have we heard people say, They are always walking around with their head in the clouds. Ever wondered what they meant by this statement? This statement suggests the person with their head in the clouds presumably is not aware of what is going on around him. That person has no knowledge of current events or what is happening at that particular time. God does not want us ignorant. He wants us aware of what He is doing in our lives for our good. The Pharisees and the Sadducees (the religious leaders during Jesus' time) were trying to get Jesus in trouble so they could turn him over to the authorities. So they pointed out a man in the crowd with a disfigured hand and tested Jesus, asking if He would be willing to heal someone on the Sabbath (when any work was prohibited). Jesus, fully aware of their wicked hearts, took the opportunity to show the crowd that NOTHING would keep him from his task of reaching the lost. Until Jesus arrived on the scene, this man had been overlooked, teased and ignored. However, Jesus had bigger plans for his life. -How often do you defend those who have no one to defend them? Or reach out to those who get teased constantly, or completely ignored? The Bible encourages us to watch as well as pray, or in other words, to be aware of what is going on in our space. We know that the devil is always busy and he works to distract and get the attention of Gods people so he can get us off focus. Lets not get caught with our head in the clouds. Pay attention to what God is doing and be confident that He is working all things for our good!

Meditation: Be aware of your surroundings and the people in your space. Scripture to Memorise: For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers and sisters, that our ancestors were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea. Day Eleven Monday 10th February 2014 Suggested FAST all Meats and Computer Games. My FAST today is BE MORE... PEACEFUL Scripture Reading: Isaiah 26: A minister once shared many years ago about being peaceful. He talked about a raging stormthe strong winds, the pelting rains, and the flashing thunder and lightning! This storm was of hurricane force. He went on to say that right in the midst of this storm, perched on a branch in a big old oak tree, was a birds nest and in that nest were several eggs. The amazing thing about the story was that sitting on the eggs was the mother bird. Even though the storm tossed her about, she remained perched on her nest determined to protect her eggs. This mother bird had peace in the midst of the storm because her mind was on something greater than the storm. God desires peace for His people. When storms come into our lives, He wants us to concentrate more on Him rather than what is going on around us. He has promised to give us peace in the middle of the storm, but we have to learn to keep our minds on Him and not our surroundings. Peace is a fruit that a person produces, or doesnt produce, and by it, you may understand their walk in life. Either they are producing great fruit, or they are producing the complete opposite. We need friends to surround us who are going to be by our side in a moments time and be that love, peace, and joy in our lives. Who are you surrounding yourself around? What kind of fruit are they producing, good or bad? If you are surrounded by a crowd of bad fruited people, what can you do to share Gods love and gentleness to them? Meditation: I will look beyond my circumstances and concentrate on the peacefulness and calmness of knowing God. Scripture to Memorise: You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Isaiah 26:3 My 20/20 Prayer: How do I demonstrate peace in my life?

Day Twelve Tuesday 11th February 2014 Suggested FAST all Meats and Computer Games. My FAST today is BE MORE... LOVING Scripture Reading: Jeremiah 31: What the world needs now, is love sweet love. Its the only thing that theres just too little of. This song has become an all too common theme in our world today. As it is also said, People are looking for love in all the wrong places. Both of these statements are unfortunate, but true. The world recognizes its need for love, but has not found it. Although this is a worldly issue, we as Christians sometimes struggle to exhibit the sweet love that the world needs. Lets look at the words of a popular song that we sing, The Jesus in me, loves the Jesus in you; youre easy to love. As much as we want to practice these words, as Christians, we struggle with doing what they say. God knows this is a struggle for us, and in order to help us be more loving, He reminds us about the love that He has for us. He reminds us that this love has been with us for generations and this love is everlasting. Because of His love for us, he is affectionately kind to us. As we continue to recognize and accept His love for us, we can then transfer this love and affection to others. You may think thats easier said than done. Well look closely at the words to the song again. It reads, The Jesus in me, loves the Jesus in you. Did you get it? The key component is Jesus. God gave us Jesus as the example of how we can be more loving. If we allow the Jesus in us to love the Jesus (or God) in others, then they will (and you will) be easy to love. Jesus response when asked what the greatest commandment was: loving God completely, and loving others as much as yourself. One of the greatest expressions of love is that of giving. Do you love God and give yourself to Him completely? In what ways could you show the love of God by giving to others?
Meditation: Lord, help me to see you in others so that I can be more loving. Scripture to Memorise: The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness. Jer 31:3 My 20/20 Prayer: How can I be more loving

Repeat these words, Everything I need is in God. Do you believe it? This passage of scripture was written at a time when Israel was under great suffering and anguish. Sound familiar? Maybe they were experiencing a recession, high unemployment, financial ruin, the disintegration of the family, sickness, homelessness, or elevated crime statistics. At this point, Im sure that giving up was on the minds of all those who were affected, but the prophet did something that we are encouraged to do. THINK! He thought back to his experience with God and decided that there was reason to expect with confidence for things to change for the better. No matter what our present situation or circumstances, our God never changes. In the past, God has been there for us and seen us through some of the most difficult times in our lives. The scripture declares that Gods love never quits and that His mercies never run out. But every morning He sends new mercies to take over where yesterdays mercies stopped. We dont have a reason to give up because we have HOPE in God. We have the assurance that God knows all about us and what we are going through and that He is making provision for us. He is our everything! He is all that we need! He is our portion! So the next time you get in a tight place remember to HOPE in God. Everything that we need is in God! Meditation: My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame but wholly lean on Jesus name. On Christ the solid rock I stand; all other ground is sinking sand. Scripture to Memorise: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, says my soul, therefore I will hope in Him. Lam 3:22-24 My 20/20 Prayer: For what am I hopeful

Day Fourteen - Thursday 13th February 2014 Suggested FAST all Meats and Computer Games. My FAST today is BE MORE... POSITIVE Scripture Reading: Philippians 4:
You are who you hang out with. If you hang with people who get in trouble you will get in trouble! You hang with people who are angry and always upsetguess what, you will be too. On the flip side, when you associate with people who do good and positive things, you will too. Take a look at your life and see who is helping you grow in a positive way? The state of being positive is one that brings with it a feeling of more rather than feeling less. It has been proven scientifically that the power of positive thinking can change structure of the cells in our bodies. Some believe that the diagnosis of a life-threatening disease can be reversed because of positive thinking. This principle also can be found in mathematics. A Plus (+) sign denotes positive while a minus (-) sign denotes negative. One adds, while the other subtracts. A positive number is always greater than a negative number. As it is in the natural, so it is in the spiritual; thinking about the good versus the bad can change your view of any given situation. You may not have a new car, but with your old car, it is a blessing that you dont have a car payment. We may be experiencing a recession, but you have food on your table every night. We shouldnt deny that things are tough, but recognize that in spite of our situations, God is still good and is still providing good things for us. In our equation of life God is greater, than any negative thing that we are experiencing. Decide what steps you can take now to move forward in that direction. Meditation: When negative things come, choose to think more about God. Scripture to Memorise: Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8-9 My 20/20 Prayer: I choose to think on these positive things

Day Fifteen Friday 14th February 2014 Suggested FAST all Meats and Computer Games. My FAST today is BE MORE... GIVING Scripture Reading: II Corinthians 8:
The Macedonians were a group of blessed people. They understood the power of sacrificial offering during afflicting and difficult times in their lives. Ordinarily it would have made sense to save their money for their future, but when they learned the needs of the saints in Jerusalem, the Macedonians were overflowing with the joy of giving to something greater than themselves. Interesting to note, the Macedonians not only gave their money, time and talent, but they gave beyond their ability to produce what was needed to glorify God. Moreover, in their giving they were not pressured or coaxed, but they were willing. For the Christian, giving is an act of worship; we give based on what we believe about God. 6 Characteristics of Godly giving: 1. Giving of self is first (2 Corinthians 8:5) Everything belongs to God. 2. Godly giving is worship. (John 4:23-24) Our giving must proceed from the heart with a willing attitude. 3. Godly giving is consistent (1 Corinthians 16:1-2) Do I see my giving as an obligation or privilege. 4. Godly giving is according to ability. (2 Corinthians 8:12) God never expects more than we are able to do. 5. Godly giving is generous. (2 Samuel 24:24. 1 Timothy 6:17-19) Giving is when you give and expect nothing in return. 6. Godly giving is planned and cheerful. (2 Corinthians 8:10 -11) The Lord deserves our FIRST fruit. "Is Jesus Christ a guest in my home or have I given Him the keys to my home?" Meditation: Think on something greater than yourself that you can sow into that will cause others to Be More. Scripture to Memorise: One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. Proverbs 11:24 My 20/20 Prayer: What is God saying to me

BE MORE... COURAGEOUS Scripture Reading: Joshua 1:

Are you fearless? Would someone describe you as a courageous person? When we think of a fearless individual, our minds often go directly to those highly visible and dramatic acts of courage weve seen in the media or read about in books. It may be the bold image of a brave soldier leading his men forward while the enemy shoots all around him, or of a heroic fire-fighter rushing into a building to save victims. That's what we all call courage. We are even more impressed when we see them interviewed afterwards by the media and hear them say in a very humble voice, "I was just doing my duty." It always surprises us when they say that, but you know, they are right. They were just doing their duty. Dangerous, painful, and even life threatening, but it is all just part of the job. I know many of us would be quick to say, "I could never do that!" Yet, the truth is, that is exactly what we are all called to do. Stand up, run to the burning decay of peoples lives to see them saved and set free. In the classic movie, The Wizard of Oz, the Cowardly Lion jumps out of window because of fear. His desire was to have courage. The Wizard of Oz made him go through many dangerous and terrifying situations with the Wicked Witch of the West to earn the courage that he so desperately wanted. In the end, the lion learned that the courage he was trying to earn was exhibited in his ability to overcome his situations and finally overcome the witch. There are many times in the Word that God commands his people to be strong and courageous. He commands it because He knows that we already have the courage we need. Furthermore, He knows that fear brings terror and discouragement. Finally, He assures us that we can be strong and courageous because He is always with us. Meditation: I will be confident and courageous in every situation knowing that God is with me.
Scripture to Memorise: Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9

BE MORE... PATIENT Scripture Reading: James 1&2: Patience is about doing the right thing, even under great strain, stress, and/or provocation. It is about continuing to wait within a negative circumstance, without any complaint or negativity. It is about enduring trials, while not letting those trials get to you. That is what true patience is, and this patience only comes about as the gift of God; as the result of God working within our lives. Patience is a word that many of us have a hard time demonstrating. The greatest challenge to the development of patience is being able to wait for the tangible evidence that our efforts are not in vain. We want what we want when we want it; in fact, we wanted it yesterday! Basically, patience is nothing more than a waiting game, that when played correctly, will work exceptionally well in us when we willingly surrender total and complete control to the Wisdom of God. As we explore the elements required to actually demonstrate patience in all situations, we should find a strong foundation of faith. Job demonstrated this faith when he waited patiently for God to deliver him from the despair in which he found himself. When his wife and friends told him to curse his God and die, Job trusted that Gods delay was not a denial and in the end was rewarded for his patience. He understood that patience was not just a condition for which to aim, but an increase in his faith in God. Dont let impatience cause you to miss the good things that God has for you on the journey of your life. If you consistently murmur and complain while waiting for your prayers to be answered, you may miss something that God wants to use to enrich your life. You hear jokes about never asking God for patience unless you want to go through more trouble, but if having patience increases what you can receive from God, it is a good thing; so ask away! Meditation: Faith, trust, and truth are the foundation of patience. Scripture to Memorise: Count it all joy when you fall into divers temptations; knowing this, that the trying of your faith works patience. BE MORE... FAITHFUL Scripture Reading: Matthew 17:

The Word of God tells us that without faith it is impossible to please the Lord. So, how much faith is required for the people of God to please Him? Jesus explains in Matthew that the level of faith needed to spiritually move obstacles is equivalent to the circumference of a mustard seed. A single mustard seed has the ability to produce more than 100 additional seeds after it matures into a plant and it is used to cure many conditions. Look at the spiritual connection. If we have the faith the size of a mustard seed, then as we mature in God, the power of our faith has the potential to grow 100 fold. With that much faith, what is really holding us back? Scripture says that as we humble ourselves and come to God, he will lift us up. Living faithful is living completely dependent on God. It may be difficult to resist some of the temptations of this world, but how awesome is it to know that our God has provided us with everlasting power to stand strong and devoted to Him! God has provided everyone with special talents and gifts. It is important to remember that one day, we will all be held responsible for how we are using what God has given us. The Bible says that those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who are unfaithful, even what little they have will be taken away. What special talents, gifts, and responsibilities has God entrusted you with? How are you being faithful by using what God has entrusted you with to further His kingdom? Meditation: I will activate my faith to move forward. Scripture to Memorise: Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you. Matthew 17:20 My 20/20 Prayer: How can I increase my faith

BE MORE... OBEDIENT Scripture Reading: Romans 6: At the very beginning of Earth's history, God gave two people an instruction. These two people were Adam and Eve, and God told them one thing; not to eat from a tree in the Garden of Eden. As it happens they ate from the one tree they were told not to eat from, and mankind has had to live with the consequences ever since. With God, it isn't so much what we do on the outside that is significant to Him. What He cares about is the state of our hearts. When God tells us to do something and we do it, we do it because we trust that 1) He is good, and 2) He cares about us and won't ask us to do something that will harm us. The moment we feel we can't obey God, we are ultimately telling Him we know better. Obedience is an act of worship to God. Worship is all about letting God know how awesome He is, bringing glory to His name, showing the world how great He is. But if God gives us an instruction and we can't follow it because we don't trust Him enough, our words and songs are useless. As Christians, our greatest impact has to be our encounter with the Lord Jesus. One day while we were still very much sinners Christ died for us and became our bridge from sinful nature to righteousness. The truth is that there was no other way for us to get back to our maker, God. It is through the gospel of grace that we earnestly respond to our deliverance from slaves to sin by becoming obedient to the teachings of Jesus Christ. Obedience means that against what our minds or feelings may direct, it is our true love of Jesus that compels us to comply with His word and teachings. If we love God with all my heart, it becomes difficult for us to ignore His leading and guidance. Meditation: In what area of your life have you not obeyed God? Resolve to submit it to Him today. Scripture to Memorise: But thanks be to God that you, having once been slaves of sin, have become obedient from the heart to the form of teaching to which you were entrusted, Romans 6:17 My 20/20 Prayer: I resolve to work on obedience in these areas

Day Twenty - Friday 21st February 2014

Suggested FAST Sweets and Deserts and Social Texting. My FAST today is BE MORE... ENCOURAGING Scripture Reading: James 4 & 5:16 So often we are guilty of not noticing others around us. We need to stop, look, and ask questions. This is where love kicks in do you love enough to act or just have empathy or sympathy? When you say you will pray for someone, dont fail to do it! Influence grows when we show compassion. We must model compassion, like the Lord did in Luke 10: 37, And he said, He that shows mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do likewise. Genuine compassion powerfully affects those who receive it, those who give it, and those who observe it. You can offer to babysit for a young mother, or help in a financial way if you can, or just a smile, hug, or note can communicate compassion. Do you know of someone who does not know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour? a co-worker, a friend, a neighbour, and even someone in your own family. The fact is almost every born again believer knows at least one person who is not saved. Why then do you think that God has placed you in their life? Is it to witness and encourage them or to let your light shine before them so that they will desire to know your God? Today take time out to pray for someone specifically you know who is not saved. Ask God to show and tell you exactly how to witness to this person or people He has for you to share your faith with. God desires for everyone to be saved not just a select few but EVERYONE!
Sometimes people dont feel as if we can get out from under depressed or inadequate feelings. James says for us to confess to each other that we may be healed. We should share with others what the Lord has done for us so others may be encouraged. If we prayerfully share our situations, we can encourage each other.

Meditation: Remember the promises God made to you. Scripture to Memorise: Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that you may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. James 5:16 My 20/20 Prayer: What can you share that will encourage someone else
