Who in the right mind named it Uranus??

How did Uranus get its name? Uranus is named after the ancient Greek god of the sky, who was the father of Kronos (Saturn in Roman mythology). Most of the other planets got their names thousands of years ago, but Uranus was discovered just a few hundred years ago William Herschel found it on March 13, 1781.

William Herschel.the man who discovered Uranus

The German-born English astronomer William Hershel discovers Uranus, the seventh planet from the sun. Herschel's discovery of a new planet was the first to be made in modern times, and also the first to be made by use of a telescope, which allowed Herschel to distinguish Uranus as a planet, not a star, as previous astronomers believed. Herschel, who was later knighted for his historic discovery, named the planet Georgium Sidus, or the "Georgian Planet," in honor of King George III of England

Distance from the sun and seasons

Average distance is 1,783,939,400 miles

Perihelion (closest) 1,699,800,000 miles Aphelion (farthest) 1,868,080,000 miles

It Takes 84 earth years to complete a rotation

Rotation Axis and angle

97.77 degrees, compared to Earth's 23.5 degrees. Magnetic pole tilt compared to rotational axis: 58.6

degrees. It takes 17 Hours 14Minutes 24 Seconds to make one rotation.

What is Uranus made of??

82.5 percent hydrogen 15.2 percent helium 2.3 percent methane

The methane gives it its Bluish color

Atmosphere

How cold is Uranus

The temperature of the Uranus is 49 K or -224 degree

Celsius which makes the Uranus as the Coldest Planet in the Solar System.

Size Comparison
The radius of Uranus is 15759 miles
Which is four times bigger than earth You can fit 63.1 earths in Uranus

Uranus is the third largest planet in the solar system

The rings around Uranus

The rings of Uranus were discovered on March 10, 1977, by

James L. Elliot, Edward W. Dunham, and Douglas J. Mink. By 1978, nine distinct rings were identified. Two additional rings were discovered in 1986 in images taken by the Voyager 2spacecraft, and two outer rings were found in 20032005 in Hubble Space Telescope photos.

The Blue Ring??

Scientist believe that the blue ring on Uranus comes

from a moon called Mab which is only 15 miles across Saturn was believed to be the only planet to have the blue ring because of Escalades the moon the shoots water into space It was discovered April 6, 2006

Moons of Uranus

Who Discovered them??

Uranus, the seventh planet of the Solar System, has 27 known moons, all of which are named after characters from the works of William Shakespeare and Alexander Pope. William Herschel discovered the first two moons, Titania and Oberon, in 1787, and the other three ellipsoidal moons were discovered in 1851 by William Lassell (Ariel and Umbriel) and in 1948 by Gerard Kuiper (Miranda). These five have planetary mass, and so would be considered (dwarf) planets if they were in direct orbit about the Sun. The remaining moons were discovered after 1985, either during the Voyager 2 flyby mission or with the aid of advanced Earth-based telescopes.
