The objective is to design and develop a control system for a 4 DOF manipulator with a gas nozzle as the end-effector. The manipulator will be fitted on a mobile base for firefighting purpose. The robot will carry a gas cylinder and the nozzle will be operated for fire extinguishing. Multiple temperature sensors will be installed for semi-autonomous control of the manipulator.

With the passage of time, the conventional sources of energy such as petroleum, coal, natural gas etc. are decreasing and the world is moving towards energy crisis. This situation is more prominent in countries like Pakistan. To overcome this energy crisis, scientists and engineers are searching for renewable energy resources. Among these resources, wind energy is of utmost importance. Countries like Germany are producing as much as 25,000 MW of energy from the wind. The objective of this project is to design the pitch control of wind turbine blades. The pitch control enables the wind turbines to capture the maximum energy from wind without damaging the mechanical structure of the turbine.

A comfortable ride is one of the primary objective of modern cars. The conventional approach to add the smooth drive is to use passive elements in the suspension system of automobiles. The comfort can be further improved by using active elements such as electro hydraulic actuators. The objective of this project is to develop an active suspension system for the one wheel model of a car. The hardware will be designed and a controller will be implemented to achieve the goals.

The objective is to design and develop a control system for a 4 DOF belt driven stair climbing mobile robot. The project includes design and development of motor drives and motor controllers, programming of typical moves such as move foraward/backward, turn right/left, open/raise arms and fold arms, programming reactive behaviors such as wall following and obstacle avoidance, and programming stair climbing/rough terrain climbing behaviors. Moreover a wireless teleoperative control will be implemented.

Mobile robots are generally operated on batteries and require various voltage supplies for different motors, control cards and sensors. Generating multiple regulated voltage supplies from a single battery is one of the basic requirements. Typical design objectives include high power conversion efficiency for longer battery life, small size for easy installation and electrical isolation between different outputs to reduce interference between different parts. This project aims at developing a multiple output power supply from a single battery with high efficiency and electrical isolation.

It is not trivial to teleoperate a humanoid arm because of its several degrees of freedom (could be more than 8). Exo-skeleton based teleoperative control is one of the options. A wearable mechanism is used to generator joint angle commands for the robotic arm from the movements of the arm of a human operator.

The objective is to design and develop an Active Beacons Localization System for mobile robots. The approach of localization uses triangulation or trilateration (measurement of position of a point in space if the distance or angle of the target point is known from at least 3 predetermined points is known). The project includes: comparative study of different sensors in this regard and choosing feasible techniques for the implementation of this system; Development/interfacing of sensors; Development of communication/control system for the traiangulation.
