BOWIE STATE UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF EDUCATION DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATIONAL STUDIES AND LEADERSHIP POSITION DESCRIPTION Tenure-Track Assistant Professor

in Educational Administration and Leadership The Department of Educational Studies and Leadership in the College of Education at Bowie State University seeks outstanding applicants for a tenure-track appointment beginning August 2014. The department offers two graduate programs in educational leadership: a Masters in School Administration and Supervision and a doctorate in Educational Leadership. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the scholarship of Educational Leadership and actively help shape the direction of the program including curriculum and assessment initiatives, recruit prospective students, advise Masters/Administrator I Certificate/doctoral students in all stages of their graduate programs, and collaborate with local, regional, and national partners to provide experiences for students in the program. The successful candidate will also be expected to collaborate and teach courses in both programs; advise students; chair and serve on dissertation committees, develop and pursue a program of scholarship and publications, work collaboratively with area public schools and contribute to department, college, and university committees. The successful candidate should possess expertise in one or more research and teaching areas related to educational leadership and administration i.e. school administration, school reform and change, school finance, information systems, school law, instructional leadership, technology, research methodology, with focus on social justice and urban education. Qualifications: All applicants must have: An earned doctorate in Educational Leadership, or Educational Administration, or Educational Policy, or Higher Education from an accredited institution; Evidence of an active research agenda in school leadership or the potential to maintain an active research agenda, previous experience in or organizational leadership experience that is related to PK-12 education; A minimum of three years of experience, preferably more than three years of experience, as an administrator in PK-12 settings as an assistant principal, principal, supervisor, superintendent; , Experience building partnerships with PK-12 schools; Experience with grants (writing successful grants) and sources of external funding; Working knowledge of CAEP (formerly NCATE), ELCC, ISSLC and Middle States Accrediting bodies; A record of professional activities; Demonstrated expertise in quantitative or qualitative research methodology; Evidence of effective and successful university teaching experience at the graduate level; Experience developing and delivering hybrid, distance, and online courses through a variety of medias; and Experience directing doctoral dissertations This is a nine (9) month tenure-track position, with opportunity for employment during the summer sessions.
