THESIS INSTRUCTIONS

X SEMESTER B. Arch

SESSION: JAN 2013 TO JUNE 2013

With respect to the thesis work, following are the scheme of internal and external evaluation. Review dates, general guidelines and instructions, which have to be strictly adhered by the students.

INSTRUCTIONS: All the students should follow the instructions given below without fail Students should attend all the reviews without fail in the given dates All the students should sign in the attendance register kept in the office when they come for discussion/reviews Attendance percentage for thesis will be calculated based on this (apart for the attendance for theory subjects) No review (internal/external) will be conducted without the presence of respective guides Students with less or no progress will not be permitted to attend external review All the students should keep a log book to write the comments during reviews to incorporate the same and bring it for each review. Log books should be signed by the guide and reviewer & thesis in charge at the end of each review. Prior approval or permission from Head of the Department (through guides) is required in case they are not attending any review (internal/external) with valid reason (No oral or telephonic communication is permitted) Students who has less attendance in thesis shall not be permitted to appear for the final thesis viva voce. Students who fail to attend external reviews are not eligible to attend final thesis viva voce All the students should submit their final sheets 2 days before the University viva voce. Students can be in touch with their guide and thesis coordinator for further information, details and clarifications

REVIEWS The system of internal assessment and external viva voce for the Thesis has been worked out as per the following scheme. 1. The students should discuss with the internal guides before each review, failing which they will not be permitted to attend the external/internal reviews.

2. There will be an internal review conducted once in every 15 days. The internal panel consists of Guides and Senior faculty from School of Architecture. 3. The internal review precedes the external review. Corrections, improvements, suggestions made during the internal review shall be incorporated into the presentation sheets/ drawings before the external review. 4. There will be external review every month (total of 5 reviews at different levels). Each level shall be reviewed by a panel consisting of external member (practicing architects), the guide and the Thesis in charge. 5. Each review shall be held on the dates mentioned below. 6. Any change in the given dates will be informed through mail. REVIEW I - SYNOPSIS submission 04th December 2012 (Tuesday) Finalization of Topic 10th December 2012 (Monday) REVIEW II - Literature study, Literature Case study, Site information & Case study schedule Meeting with the Guides & Internal panel member EXTERNAL REVIEW 20th & 21st December 2012 (Wednesday) The students shall explain in detail the following. Project brief including scope of the project Data collection with analysis Case studies with inference (literature) Site study (including information regarding site location and approach) Literature study Design methodology proposed to be adopted. Information with respect to the special study topic shall also be provided. REVIEW III SITE ANALYSIS, CASE STUDY & CONCEPT INTERNAL REVIEW DATES: 08th January 2013(Tuesday) EXTERNAL REVIEW 18th January 2013 (Friday) The students shall explain in detail the following: The detailed requirements of the project Area analysis Site analysis & zoning Concept with relevant sketches as required Detailed study with respect to special study topic has to be provided

REVIEW IV SCHEME 1st STAGE INTERNAL REVIEW DATES: 31st January 2013 (Thursday) No marking 07th February 2013 (Thursday) EXTERNAL REVIEW 15th February 2012 (Friday) The students shall come prepared with the following: Site plan Single line presentation drawings showing floor plans (all levels) Schematic elevations and sections Conceptual block models (compulsory) REVIEW V SCHEME 2nd STAGE INTERNAL REVIEW DATES: 28th February 2013 (Thursday) No marking 07th March 2013 (Thursday) EXTERNAL REVIEW 18th March 2013 (Monday) The students shall come prepared with the following: Site plan Double line presentation drawings with all floor plans (all levels) Detailed elevations and sections Perspective views and block models REVIEW VI DESIGN DEVELOPMENT INTERNAL REVIEW DATES: 28th March 2013 (Thursday) No marking 05th April 2013 (Friday) EXTERNAL REVIEW MOCK VIVA VOCE 15th April 2013 (Monday) The students shall be prepared with the following: All finalized drawings which include: Site plan Floor plans (all levels) Sections & elevations Landscape plan Details of features/aspects Working drawing Perspective views (of both interiors & exteriors) Site layout & building models in detail.

EXTERNAL VIVA VOCE (Conducted by Hindustan University) Tentatively, this shall be in the month of 4th week of April 2013 Submission of the following should be made 2 days prior to the final viva-voce 3 nos. of A4 sized project reports Presentation drawings Working drawings Models Views One C.D containing all the Thesis details. INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMISSION FOR REVIEWS: No student should bring A4 size sheets for any review. Sheets can vary from A3 to A0 Students should take print outs much early for each review to avoid last minute confusion and crisis No direct presentation in the laptop is entertained

MARKING 1. As per the norms of Hindustan University, 50% of the evaluation will be allotted for the internal assessment; and 50% of the marks will be allotted for the external viva voce. 2. In each review the award of marks will be as follows 30% from guide, 40% from internal review & 30% from external review 3. It is mandatory to obtain a minimum of 50% in each of the internal and external evaluation to obtain a Pass. 4. It is mandatory to obtain 50% in the internal evaluation to qualify for the external viva voce 5. Hence students are advised not to miss out any of the reviews. They must also put in a uniform effort over the entire thesis period and get their work constantly reviewed by their respective guides before facing the external panel. 6. Marks shall be displayed at the end of each review to facilitate self-assessment by the student. It is in the interest of the students to make up for any shortfall in their performance whatsoever.
