Course Outline: Basic concepts of graphs Covering circuits Graph coloring and its applications Trees and searching Arrangements and selections Generating Functions Recurrence Relations Inclusion-Exclusion principle Homeworks: There will be approximately 10 homeworks, which will be assigned weekly (except the weeks when exams will take place). The two lowest scores will be dropped; the rest will form a part of the final grade. Students are allowed to discuss the problems, work in groups, although direct copying of someones work is absolutely prohibited. The detected cases of cheating will be reported to the Academic Judiciary. Late homeworks will not be accepted. The homeworks will be posted on Blackboard; the solutions will be posted at the due time.

Exams: Three midterms will be held in the course of the term (tentative dates: March, 5; April, 14; May, 20). There will be no cumulative final exam. No electronic devices are allowed at the examinations. A single cheat sheet in the form of a 4x6 index card will be allowed for all exams. Make-up exams will be given only if you have a documented illness. Final grade contribution: midterm#1 35%, midterm#2 30%, midterm#3 25%, homework 10%. Approximate Grade Distribution: 30% As, 35% Bs, 25% Cs, 10% Ds and Fs.
