GENERALLY

OBJECTIVE: Achieve simplicity and balance


Leave a margin on all four sides of a page Organize the stories and graphics into columns. A headline may consist of a head and a subhead (or strapline) A storys headline must be at least twice the size of the storys body text. The headline must stretch across the entire width of the story. The storys byline text must be as big as the bodys text. Justify the text of stories. Indent the beginning of paragraphs. Advertisements must be framed to distinguish them from the stories. All pages MUST have a folio line on top of the page EXCEPT the front page. The stories and graphics must not look overcrowded; No graphic must be placed in the imaginary fold. Include a caption and a byline for photos.

FRONT PAGE

OBJECTIVE: Catch the readers attention


It MUST contain the papers platename and logo. Use Serrif font types. For the body of a story, 10-11 points is the ideal font size. Provide only one or two paragraphs of the top stories, to be continued inside the paper. There MUST be a photo or graphic that is your dominant art. There MUST be a main story in your front pages top half. There MUST be a small art in the lower half of the page There MUST be an anchor

EDITORIAL PAGE

OBJECTIVE: Emphasize that it is the soul of the newspaper Use Serrif font types Avoid italics and scripts There MUST be an editorial article that is boxed (font size: 12-13 There MUST be an editorial cartoon that serves as the dominant There MUST be at least one column article. There MUST be a staff box at the bottom of the page.

FEATURE PAGE

OBJECTIVE: Give the page a feminine appearance.

OBJECTIVE: Give the page a bold and lively appearance . It MUST include a prominent flag It MUST include an action photo to serve as its dominant art. It MUST include a main sports story that easily stands out in the page It MUST include at least one other article It MUST include a smaller art, e.g., Cartoon or picture.
