Design and Analysis of Experiments, Douglas C. Montgomery, 7th or 8th edition
Supplemental Book(s):
1. Experiments: Planning, Analysis, and parameter Design optimization, C. F. Jeff Wu and Michael Hamada. Wiley Interscience publication, John Wiley & Sons, Inc. NY.
Course Objectives
To learn engineering/statistical techniques to design robust processes, which are minimally affected by external sources of variability. To learn how to design and conduct experiments, and analyze the resulting data to derive optimal process parameters. To be proficient in implementing the problem solving procedures for large scale problems using computer spreadsheets (EXCEL spreadsheet, in particular). To experience first hand how the theory applies to real world problems through a group project from local industry or research laboratory, and to exercise skills for working in a group and communicating the project findings to the class through a formal presentation.
1. Course Policies
a. Use of EXCEL (spreadsheet) would be REQUIRED for problem solving. You would be required to develop your EXCEL worksheets using basic functions (not using built in Data Analysis tool of EXCEL). b. Exams and quizzes will require computer with EXCEL. Class requires you to bring your own laptop to each class, quizzes, and exams. MANDATORY laptop policy will remain in effect (http://www2.eng.usf.edu/ecomp/laptopconfiguration.asp) c. Exams will only be given at the predetermined dates. Early or late exam taking

will not be allowed, except for very special cases approved by the instructor. Students on the WEB sections must take the quizzes and exams on the same day it is given on Tampa campus. d. Quiz dates will be announced in class one week in advance e. One 8.5x11in. one sided formula sheet will be allowed in the in-class quizzes and examinations, which are otherwise closed books and notes.
2. Course Grading
Midterm 25 points Final exam 25 points Quizzes and other assignments 30 points Homework completion 5 points Group Project and presentation 15 points Letter grades will be decided as follows: 93% and above A+, 90-92%- A, 85-89% -A-, 83-84%-B+, 80-82%-B, 75-79%-B, 73-74%- C+, 70-72%- C, 65-69%-C-, 63-64%-D+, 60-62%-D, 55-59%-D-, at or below 54%-F (Curving of grades, if any, will be decided after the final exam)
3. Academic Integrity Academic honesty is fundamental to the activities and principles of a university. All members of the academic community must be confident that each persons work has been responsibly and honorably acquired, developed and presented. Any effort to gain an advantage not given to all students is dishonest whether or not the effort is successful. The academic community regards academic dishonesty as an extremely serious matter, with serious consequences that range from probation to expulsion. When in doubt about plagiarism, paraphrasing, quoting, or collaboration on assignments, consult the instructor. 4. USF Policy on Academic Dishonesty and Disruption of Academic Process Students attending USF are awarded degrees in recognition of successful completion of coursework in their chosen fields of study. Each individual is expected to earn his/her degree on the basis of personal effort. Consequently, any form of cheating on examinations or plagiarism on assigned papers constitutes unacceptable deceit and dishonesty. Disruption of the classroom or teaching environment is also unacceptable. This cannot be tolerated in the University community and will be punishable, according to the seriousness of the offense, in conformity with this rule. For more information go to the web site http://www.ugs.usf.edu/catalogs/0203/adadap.htm. 5. ADA Resources The University recognizes and values students with disabilities. The faculty and administration strive to insure that students with disabilities participate in all aspects of university life. Academic accommodations are arranged through the Office of Student Disability Services. The Office of Student Disability Services, located in SVC 1133, (974-4309), is responsible for determining eligibility of students for disability status and facilitating services and accommodations for those who qualify. Accommodations that are developed in collaboration with students and faculty, include, but are not limited to, extended time on examinations, alternate formats for printed materials, and the services of sign language interpreters. For more information go to the web site http://www.usf.edu/sds. 6. Grievance Procedures Advocacy for issues that are not able to be resolved within the framework of the established policies for this course will be handled using the procedures found in the published University of
