Objectives of the course:

In this era of digital revolution, every organization is required to deal effectively with intense global competition and an increasingly rapid pace of change. For an organization to thrive in todays Internet economy, managers and functional specialists in all areas accounting, marketing, production, operations management, and human resources must perform their jobs even more effectively and efficiently. Information Technology (IT, in short) provides the tools that enable all organizational personnel to solve increasingly complex problems and to capitalize on opportunities that contribute to the success, or even survival, of the organization. This course has the following objectives: 1. To provide students the essential core of Information Systems principles. 2. To make them aware of latest information technologies existing till date so that they can apply them in various business scenario in their career ahead. 3. To make them understand the role of information Technology to support organizational personnel, regardless of the functional area or level in the organization. 4. To explore the various applications of information Technologies and systems.
Course Outline:

To achieve the course objectives, the complete course is organized into following topics:

An Introduction to Information Technology in the Business Environment Basic concepts of Information Systems Hardware and Software Telecommunications and Networks Data resource Management Business Applications using e-commerce

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the course, the students would be able to 1. Differentiate among data, information and knowledge and describe about various kinds of information systems in modern organizations. 2. Explore various business applications where information technology plays a major role in taking operational, tactical and strategic decisions in various functional areas. 3. Describe and discuss Information Technology Infrastructure with specific references to a) Hardware b) Software c) Data resource d) Telecommunication and Networks 4. Describe electronic commerce, its scope, benefits and limitations and major applications and issues.
