II. III. Know how to determine the nutrient content in different food samples Calculate percentage of vitamin C in fruit juice Calculate the concentration of vitamin C in fruit juice

Scientific and Thinking Skills

: Observing, measuring and using numbers, handling apparatus properly

Teaching and learning approaches : 1) Facilitating sets in the phase of set induction 2) Guided learning and expository approach in the developmental phase Teaching aids / technology : Whiteboard, practical book, experiments apparatus and materials.

Scientific attitudes and noble values : having an interest and curiosity towards the nutrient content in food they intake, following orders and systematic, students help each other.

Lesson Beginning Time allocation (10 minutes) Facilitating Set Teacher explain that they will do the experiment to determine the vitamin C content in lime, lemon and orange. Teacher explain the items that need to put in their laboratory report, peka Students take note Projector and slide Microsoft word Activity Classroom Discourse Role of teaching aids/ technology

Development Phase Time allocation (25 minutes) Teacher asks students to form five groups . Teacher explain the purpose and procedure of the experiments Teacher demonstrate to the students on how to do the experiments and handling the apparatus. Teacher asks the leader of each group to take the apparatus and the food samples Teacher moves around to monitor students work. Students carried out the experiment and observe the results. Students recorded the result Students take note Activity Classroom Discourse Role of teaching aids/ technology Specimen tubes, a syringe (1 ml), syringes (5 ml), beakers (50 ml), gauze cloth and a knife.

(15 minutes)

Teacher asks the group leader to write down their result on the table at the whiteboard Teacher discuss with the students their result and asks several questions.

Students take note

Whiteboard

Teachers questions: - What reaction causes the DCPIP solution to decolourise? - Which of the fruit juices contains the highest concentration of ascorbic acid? - How would you maintain the vitamin C concentration? In canned fruit juices

Lesson Ending Time Allocation Closure (5 minutes) Teacher asks the students to clean up the apparatus Teacher summaries the lesson today Teacher dismisses the class by saying thank you Activity Classroom Discourse Role of teaching aids/ technology
