Respected Sir/Maam, The Economics Society, St. Stephens College requests the support of your company for the various events hosted by the society through the academic year 2013- 2014. As elaborated upon in this document, The Economics Society believes in creating value for our sponsors support, because of which several companies have agreed to sponsor us in successive years. We are one of the oldest societies for promotion of Economics, and are still among the most active societies in the country. We have multiple events throughout the year, which includes lectures by eminent guests (like Dr. Manmohan Singh, Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Dr. Amartya Sen and Mr. P. Chidambaram), simulation games, debates and discussions. Besides these, students undertake research activities and projects in coordination with various institutions to hone their skills. This year too, there are some promising research group ventures in the pipeline. The chief event we organize is the National Economic Festival (to be held on 17th and 18th January, 2014), which receives enthusiastic participation from colleges across India. The festival has acquired a prestigious reputation over the years. The Festival consists of the following events:

Inaugural Lecture: To be delivered by Dr. Amita Baviskar, Institute of Economic Growth, Winner of the prestigious Infosys Prize for Social Sciences Eco-Biz Quiz: A premier undergraduate level quiz on Economics and Business which draws participation from avid quizzers and students of Economics. Economists Trail: An academic event in which the theoretical concepts and the understanding of Economics of students is tested by a panel of senior academicians. Helping Tito: It is a Mathematical Modelling game in which students are required to solve cases pertaining to optimization, incentives, behavioural issues and institutional failures. Underground Economy: An original simulation game created by the Economics Society, in the event students get an opportunity to function as drug peddlers and understand the operation of the Underground Economy and application of economics in walks of life. Utilite: Another original creating of the Society, the simulation event requires participants to simulate the life of a standard persona and maximize their utility by allocating time and money among various elements. Paper Presentation: The NC Ray Paper Presentation draws participation from students from across the country. Authors of shortlisted papers are invited to present their findings in front of a panel of distinguished academicians. Mock National Development Council: This is a student simulation of the Planning Commissions National Development Council. Students represent various union ministers and Chief Ministers and discuss an issue of national importance.

Economic Policy Debate: We intend to invite representatives from mainstream parties and hold a discussion with students on the Economic Vision that their party seeks to offer. Over the past several years, we have received participation from institutions like IIT Kanpur, Jadavpur University (Kolkata), St.Xaviers College (Mumbai and Kolkata), Symbiosis School of Economics (Pune), Presidency College (Kolkata) etc. Following the trend, we hope to receive participation from these institutions this year too. In the past, the Festival has been inaugurated by renowned personalities like Yashwant Sinha, Dr. Partha Sen and T.N.Ninan. There is a host of activities planned for the festival including debates, quizzes, and a variety of simulation games and challenges. We also come out with multiple publications in a year, which are distributed in reputed research institutions such as ICRIER, JNU, CCS and the like. Our annual academic journal Toward Equilibrium shall be released during the National Economics Festival. Multiple issues of our departmental newsletter - Econ after Hours are brought throughout the academic year.
