1/32 SCALE Messerschmitt Bf-109

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTION The proposed Bf-109 model is comparatively easy to be build but its high level of similarity to the real aircraft requires special attention and high precision during the assembly process. Study carefully the illustrative drawings, cutouts and present instruction before starting the work on the model. Try to imagine the separate assembly phases and the purpose of each detail. After the acquaintance with the model, you may start the assemblage. Follow the sequence given in the instruction. Cut the necessary details shortly before using them in order to avoid possible mistakes. Score all fold lines before cutting the details. The places of scoring are marked with small thin lines on the continuation of fold lines outside the parts. The small red line markings show where to make cuts on the wing-fuselage joint cowlings. Do not be in a hurry with gluing - carefully check and shape the details until obtaining the exact and correct fit. Before starting the work get hold of the necessary tools: scissors, sharp modeling knife, blunt knife for scoring the fold lines, prickle, ruler, nippers and grinding paper. Additional materials necessary for the assemblage are: sheet of cardboard with thickness approximately 0.5 mm, a piece of wire with diameter 0.5 - 0.8 mm. Supply with proper glue. BISON Clear Adhesive, UHU or similar are recommended as the most appropriate ones. Water based glue is not recommended. The model can be built in three variants: F-4, G-6 and G-14. You must choose the variant before starting assemblage. Note that the present instruction is for G-14 version, and the differences and only the differences between it and other versions are presented. Preparation for assembling includes gluing page 5 that contains formers and strengthening elements on a cardboard . Start with some subassemblies. Assembly the interior of the cockpit as it is shown on the view A. For F-4 version you should remove the hatched areas on the part 1. After finishing part 1, glue on their places the flight controls 2-4, pilots seat 5 together with belts 6 and the instrument panel 7. Assembly the gun sight 8 and glue on it the transparent display. It is recommended the gun sight to be installed after positioning the interior A in the fuselage. Assembly the canopy as shown on the view B. For F-4 version use the front panel with external mounted transparent armor, and rear all-metal armor plate. For G-14 use the Gallant style cockpit. Use transparent back armor for G versions. Be very careful during the assembling and dont allow messing the canopy glassing with glue. Note that even on the heavy withered aircraft the cockpit glassing always is kept crystal clear. Continue with the fuselage, following view Q. Assembly the fuselage part 9. The place where the wing longerone will be inserted must be cut before assembling. For F-4 version also two small cockpit windows must be cut and transparent parts 9t must be glued inside the part. After careful forming of 9, insert in it the interior A from the rearand glue the formers 9c and 9d. Prepare the fuselage segment 10, position the formers 10c and 10 d and glue the segment to 9. Install the gun sight slightly to the right from the central line of symmetry. Its display is for the right eye of the pilot. Glue also the rear side of the canopy interior 10e. Now glue the canopy as it is shown on the view R and continue with the nose fuselage segments 13-15. Be careful with the gluing of machine guns parts on the segment 14. Keep strictly the symmetry of the fuselage and do not avoid twisting.

Complete the fuselage /view T/ by adding segments 16, 17 and the vertical stabilizer 20. Use larger stabilizer for G-14. Dont forget before assembling to cut the small place on 20, where the horizontal stabilizer longerone later will be inserted. Leave apart the fuselage for a while and start assemblage of the wing. Assembly the wing reinforcing elements /view D/ and wheels housings . Use all purpose small connecting stripes S as it is shown on view C. The assembling sequence of the wing is shown on view P. Glue the preliminary scored and bended connecting stripes 24a, 25a, 26a and 27a at about 1 mm inside the parts. Glue the wing parts together by 34c, then glue wheels housings C and the reinforcing structure D to internal bottom surface of the wing. After few dry tests glue the upper surface of the wing to D and to its bottom rear edges. The rear edges of the wing must be straight and sharp and the angle of attack must be constant. Do not avoid twisting of the wing. After drying the glue add wingtips. The dihedral angle of the completed wing must be 5 degrees. Glue the wing to the fuselage as shown on view T. Carefully prepare the wing cowlings /view M/. position them on their places, applying the glue not on them, but on the fuselage and wing to avoid mess. Then glue the horizontal stabilizer, inserting its longerone in 20. Keep the vertical symmetry. Now is the time of detailing. Assembly the bubble shape machine guns cowlings /view F, where s stands for all purpose connecting stripes/ if version G-6/14 is choused. Continue with carburator air intake /view E/, exhaust pipes /view K/, radiators /view L/. Assembly the wheel legs 42-43 as it is shown on the view G. Then prepare the wheels. Glue the circle parts 45 and 46 in the same sequence as on a page 5. The final thickness of the wheels shoud be 5-5.5 mm. After drying the glue round the rubber surfaces by sand paper and paint it in black by ink and glue on them 45a,b and 46a. Dont forget to make a holes in center of the parts 45 and 46. It is highly recommended to complete view G directly on the model. Glue the legs first, then install wheels and control their position angles during complete drying the glue. Then glue the covers47,48. The reinforcing wire of the rear wheel must be inserted in its rubber /view H/. The building sequence of the propeller is shown on the views I and J. The propeller should rotate free in its bearing 59. Keep the 120 degrees position angle, equal angle of attack and rotating plain of the blades. The holes in 55 where the blades roots have to be inserted must be cut preliminary The other details external fuel tank /view N/ that can be substituted with bomb /view W/ and under wing cannons /view O/ are optional for all the versions of the model. Complete the model, adding the details as shown on the view T,U and V. Note the follow: The external fuel tank N or bomb W are installed asymmetrically slightly to the left if you look at the nose of the model. It is for compensation of the rotating moment of the propeller during takeoff when the aircraft ailerons are still no effective. The antenna 51,52 is not used in F-4 version. The front and the cockpit air intakes 53 are only for G versions. The under wing Pitot tube 77 substitutes the normal wone at G-14 version. After completion the view V your model is ready and should look just like the real thing. Enjoy!
