IDRISI Selva Installation Read Me January 2013

Installation This CD or download file can be used for installing both stand-alone and multi-seat products. The IDRISI Selva installation requires every copy to be activated and licensed to a particular computer within ! days of installation. "ntil activated# IDRISI Selva will run in trial mode# allowing full access to the program during this trial period. $or multi-seat licenses# IDRISI Selva must first be installed and activated on the server. During the installation# you have the option of installing the full set of core files or only the license manager files on the server. If you choose the latter# deselect the first three options and select to install only the license manager files on the server. This option installs only those files needed to manage client machines from a server. The full core files must be installed on all the clients. %nce installed# locate the IDRISI Selva program group# accessed from the &indows Start menu# and select IDRISI Selva to launch the program. In trial mode# you will be as'ed to open the IDRISI (icense )anager or to open IDRISI Selva. Clic' *o to continue into the program if you are not ready to activate your license. If you are ready to activate your license# select to open the IDRISI (icense )anager. *ote that you must have your license ID and password to activate. License Manager and License Activation The IDRISI (icense )anager is used to manage your IDRISI Selva stand alone or multi-seat license. (icenses can be activated online or offline. %nline activation +the default method, assumes internet connectivity to connect to the IDRISI (icense Server. If the (icense )anager cannot connect to the internet# the IDRISI (icense )anager will default to offline activation. If you are using a pro-y server# select the Switch to %nline .ctivation lin' to set your pro-y server I/ or server name. 0ou also may choose to activate offline# even when connected to the internet# by selecting the Switch to %ffline .ctivation lin' from within the IDRISI (icense )anager. *ote1 )ulti-seat e-piring licenses cannot be activated offline. To activate a copy of IDRISI Selva# you must have your (icense ID and /assword ready. These are supplied to you by Clar' (abs# usually via email# after Clar' (abs has processed your order. To activate# locate the IDRISI Selva program group# accessed from the &indows Start menu# and select the IDRISI (icense )anager. Then follow the instructions in the activation dialog. Multi-Seat Activation .ctivating the Server )achine1 IDRISI Selva must first be installed and activated on the server before activating any networ'ed clients. .ctivating online requires active internet access. /lease follow the instructions below to activate the server machine1

1. %pen the IDRISI (icense )anager. 2. Select the Server +*etwor', option. 3. 2nter your (icense ID and /assword into the respective bo-es +/lease note1 /assword is
case sensitive.,

4. 2nter the "niversal *aming Convention +"*C, path in the bo- below the password bo-. The
"*C path is the full path and filename of the license file on the server machine. This will be the networ' path that the client machines will use to navigate to the license file that is located on the sever machine across your networ'. The "*C path should loo' similar to this1 \\ <serverna e! \IDRISI Selva\License\Selva

The "\\ <serverna e! # can be either the name of the server machine or its I/ address. $or networ's where clients are located across different domains or subnets from the server it is suggested to use the I/ address of the server. The "\IDRISI Selva\License# is the name of the shared folder on your networ' that holds the license file. This folder can be found in the default installation directory1 $%\&rogra 'iles\IDRISI Selva\License. "Selva# is the name of the license file +this file has no e-tension,. The license file should ()* be modified# or renamed.

Right-clic' on the (icense folder and select /roperties. In the Sharing tab# ma'e sure all users have $ull Control of the folder. In the Security tab# ma'e sure all users have at least )odify permissions. *e-t# open the (icense folder and locate the Selva file. Right-clic' and select /roperties. )a'e sure all users have at least )odify permissions in the Security tab and $ull Control under the Sharing tab.

6. &hen all required information is entered in the (icense )anager and when the shared folder
has been set up clic' 5.ctivate %nline6. .ctivating the Client )achines1 Client machines can be activated in one of two ways1

1. "sing the (icense )anager1 a. (og on to the client machine as an administrator. b. %n the client machine# open up the (icense )anager.

c. Select the Client +*etwor', option. d. 2nter the SAM+ "*C path you specified on the server machine. It is important that
the "*C paths on the server and client machines are identical.

g. %n clients that are not using 7ista or &indows 8 or not enabling ".C# non-admin
logins to client machines must have )odify rights to the following locations where IDRISI Selva is installed1 idrusers.ini# idrisi 9.ini# and the /ro;ects folder under the IDRISI Selva folder. The location of the /ro;ects folder can be redirected to a common area using IDRISI 2-plorer. %nce in IDRISI Selva# open IDRISI 2-plorer and go to the /ro;ects Tab. Right-clic' on the default /ro;ects folder location and select *ew /ro;ects folder.

e-tension, is written to the IDRISI Selva<(icense folder. This file contains the "*C path that was specified during the server activation.

b. %n the server machine# go to the IDRISI Selva<(icense folder. Copy the file called
5floatpath6 +this file has no e-tension,. Copy this file to the same directory on all the client machines1 /rogram $iles 4 IDRISI Selva 4 (icense folder.

c. The client will automatically be activated. The floatpath file holds the "*C path from
the server machine.

d. If you have &indows 7ista# &indows 8# or &indows Server 9!!:1 &hen running the
program for the first time# please be sure to rig,t-clic- on the IDRISI Selva icon and select 5Run as administrator.6

e. %n clients that are not using 7ista or &indows 8 or not enabling ".C# non-admin

License Deactivation $or stand alone and multi-seat licenses# once your license is activated# you must deactivate the license if you wish to transfer the license to another machine# install a new operating system on the same machine# or redirect the "*C or mapped drive for networ' licensing. A. To deactivate a license# launch the IDRISI Selva (icense )anager. 9. Select Deactivate (icense and reenter your (icense ID and /assword. . Clic' Deactivation to deactivate the license. 0ou may now install IDRISI on a new machine or operating system# using the same (icense ID and password from your former machine. *i e *a .ering Recovery If you lose your license due to time tampering +e.g.# setting the cloc' bac' and then forward again,# your license can be recovered by setting it to the correct local time. =owever# if you set the system cloc' forward and then bac' again# the license file must be reset. If you are online# open the IDRISI (icense )anager and select the Time Tampering Recovery lin'. Select the AutoFix option and clic' the 3et Time button to sync your system cloc' with a universal cloc' via the web. Then clic' $i- Cloc' to recover your license. If you are offline# time tampering can only be resolved through the use of 'ey codes. Select the %ffline Time $i-ing option to generate two "ser codes. 2mail or fa- these codes to Clar' (abs +clar'labsBclar'u.edu,# along with your full contact information and Customer ID.
