Introduction ThegoverningbodyofDoningtonOnBainPrimarySchoolappliestheregulationsonadmissions fairlyandequallytoallthosewhowishtoattendthisschool.TheSchoolStandardsand FrameworkAct1998introducedanewframeworkforschooladmissionsasofSeptember2000. ThispolicyconformstotheregulationsthataresetoutinthatActandalsofurtherexplainedinthe statutorySchoolAdmissionsCodeofPracticeandthestatutoryAppealsCodeofPractice. Aimsandobjectives Weareaninclusiveschoolthatwelcomeschildrenfromallbackgroundsandabilities. Allapplicationswillbetreatedonmeritandinasensitivemanner. Theonlyrestrictionweplaceonentryisthatofnumber.Ifthenumberofchildrenapplyingforentry exceedstheplacesavailable,weenforcetheproceduresetoutbelowinordertodetermine whetherachildisacceptedornot.Itisourwishtoallowparentstherighttohaveaplaceatthe schooloftheirchoice.However,thisisnotalwayspossible,duetotheexcessdemandonthe schoolplacesavailable. Thelevelofabilityofachildoranyspecialneedsthats/hemayhaveplaysnopartinthe admissionspolicyofthisschool. Whereapplicationforadmissionexceedsthenumberofplacesavailable,thefollowingcriteriawill apply,intheordersetoutherewith,todecidewhichchildrentoadmit a b Wherechildrenareinpubliccare Wherethechildhasasiblingattendingtheschool c Wheretherearemedicalgrounds(supportedbyaDoctorsCertificate) d Proximityofthechildshometotheschoolwiththoselivingnearerbeinggiven thehigherpriority.Distancetobemeasuredonamapasthecrowflies

Howparentscanapplyfortheirchildtobeadmittedtoourschool Asourschoolisacommunityschool,theschooldeterminestheadmissionarrangementsin agreementwiththeLEA.TheLEAisthereforetheAdmissionsAuthorityforourschool.The regulationsforentrytoeachschool,wheretheAdmissionsAuthorityistheLEA,arepublished eachyearbytheLEA.ParentscanreceiveacopyoftheseregulationsdirectlyfromtheLEA. TheLEApublishesacompositeadmissionsprospectuseachyear,whichgivesinformationabout howparentscanapplyforaplaceintheschooloftheirchoice.Parentshavearighttoexpressa preferencefortheschooloftheirchoiceandtheyshoulddosoontheapplicationform.Expressing apreferencedoesnot,initself,guaranteeaplaceatthisschool.Applicationformscanbe obtainedfromtheEducationDepartmentoftheLEAandshouldbecompletedbythedate stipulatedontheforms.Theschoolnotifiesparentsabouttheschoolplaceassoonasallthe applicationshavebeenconsidered. Childrenenterschoolintheacademicyeartheybecomefive.Thereisoneadmissionsdateper year,earlyinSeptember(i.e.atthestartoftheschoolyear).Therefore,parentswhowouldlike theirchildtobeadmittedtothisschoolduringtheyeartheirchildisfiveshouldensurethatthey completethenecessaryapplicationformbythe8thJanuary2014.

Ifwedonotofferachildaplaceatthisschool,itisbecausetodosowouldprejudicethe educationofotherchildrenbyallowingthenumbersofchildrenintheschooltoincreasetoomuch. Ifparentswishtoappealagainstadecisiontorefuseentry,theycandosobyapplyingtothe LEA.Anindependentappealspanelthenmeetstoconsiderallappealsbyparentswhohavebeen refusedaplaceatourschoolandwhowishtoappealagainstthisdecision.Anappealspanels decisionisbindingforallpartiesconcerned.Iftheappealspaneldecidesthatweshouldadmita childtoourschool,thenwewillacceptthisandcontinuetodoallwecantoprovidethebest educationforallthechildrenatourschool.(DetailsofappealarrangementsaresetoutintheCode ofPracticeonSchoolAdmissionsAppeals,whichcameintoforceinSeptember1999.) Thestandardnumber Thestandardnumberisthenumberofchildrentheschoolcanaccommodate.Thestandard numberforourschoolis15.Wekeepthisnumberunderreviewandthegovernorswillapplyto changethenumberifcircumstancesallow. Infantclasssize Weteachinfantchildren(agedfivetoseven)inclassesthathaveamaximumnumberof30 children. Review ThispolicywillbereviewedannuallywiththeAdmissionsAuthorityinthelightofanychanged circumstancesinourschoolorthelocalarea.
