A Peek at Our Week:

Reading: We will practice identifying similarities in and differences between 2 texts on the same topic. The students will take a reading assessment on Friday. Math: We will take a final assessment on equal equations on Wednesday. Then we will begin our place value unit. Writing: We will turn our penguin research into an informational report. We will also practice identifying and writing interrogative (question) sentences. Science/Social Studies: We will be learning about dental health.

Reminders:
We will be having a school wide challenge to collect donations for the American Heart Association. The Heart Challenge is February 3 February 25. If youd like to donate, please put your donation in your childs STAR binder and clearly mark it for the Heart Challenge. You can check out Coach Couch's website for more details. Sound Check:
We will continue learning how to read and write words with Long I. Words with Long I include words like right, cry, and bite. We will also practice sorting words with long and short vowel sounds.

Getting 2nd Grade Ready:

I have started adding required homework assignments that students must complete each week. Students who do not complete the required homework tasks will have to complete them during recess or reward time at the end of the week. Students may still earn star points for completing the extra homework tasks.

Homework Help:
Progressing from counting to using number facts and place value is difficult for many children. This app is specifically designed to help children make this critical progression, helping them see and understand that21 is 2 tens and 1 one and that one more than 79 is 8 groups of ten. Math Slide is a multiplayer game helping children understand tens and ones; numbers up to 100. You can download it for free in the iTunes App Store.
