Just listened to a controversial song by Bruce Springsteen called American Land in which once again the singer pays tribute to the immigrants and to the working class He praises manual workers! blue collared workers thanks to whom "S cities were built He reminds us that these people coming #rom $reland! %oland! &reat Britain! $taly! &ermany etc' in search o# better prospects #or themselves and #or their children in the %romised Land sacri#iced (dedicated) their lives to build the country *hey had been told that the "SA was a land o# opportunity ! an open society with no social barriers and where all people are on e+ual #ooting *hey had been told that they could start #rom scratch and climb the social ladder and as long as they would work hard in America ( , the work ethic) *o these poor and destitute people! America was seen as the land o# milk and honey where everyone could a##ord lu-ury goods Success meant you belonged to the Happy .ew /ven though the American 0ream became a reality #or very #ew o# them and many o# them remained poverty1stricken! Springsteen still believes that the work ethic which had attracted so many immigrants (, a cheap labor #orce) in the past is still a key value in the "SA 2ell $ loved this song and 3ust wanted to share it with my .acebook #riends as $ thought you might be interested ! &o and check it out and let me know how you #eel about it!
