Customers are attracted at night to this highly success-

"1.Q," Lamps help sell products! Only ten 500W lamps make this signboard a color{ul attention-getter at night. The high-intensity white light gives excellent color rendition, controlled beam puts light where it's wanted.

This tennis court is lit up like day by compact 400W "1.Q." Lamps.

This Chicago art gallery chose "1.Q." Lamps for their good color rendition, precise beam control and high lighting maintenance.

A single "1.Q." (500W) Lamp floodlights this Hollywood swimming pool!

The State Capitol building in Albany, New York is brilliantly floodlighted by compact,
unobtrusive "1.Q." Lamps.

Attractive lighting effect on this shopping center office building . , . visible for miles. 1500W "1.Q." Lamps are used to highlighi building's vertical elements.

"1,Q," Lamps carry the ball in lighting this football field and stadium. High light output and precise beam control mean minimum of poles and fixtures.

Sylvania "I.Q." Lamps never blacken. never-ending self-cleaning process goes on inside the lamps. In ordinary incandescent lamps, tungsten evaporating from the filament travels to the bulb wall. There it col1ects, gradually blackening the lamp. But in Sylvania "I.Q." LamPs, the tungsten never gets that far. It's intercepted-by the iodine which we introduce into the bulb during manufacture. The tungsten combines chemically with the iodine, and in that form returns to the filament. There the high heat releases the iodine, and the cycle repeats itself again

BIAGI AND WffiilTE

Fixture manufacturers benefit too. Maintenance complaints are reduced. Fixture cost is lower. IJnits are more watertight. No fuse design problems. No fusing problems associated with increased ambient temperatures of externally fused fixture clusters, Our internally fused "I.Q." Lamps are designed to protect the fixture at normal end-of-life lamp failure at an ambient seal temperature of 350oC. This follows the industry's time-proved practice of providing a fuse within every gas-filled lamp for operation on circuits of 120 volts or higher.

and again.

Another secret of performance is the lamp's quartz wall. Quartz has a high melting point and low coefficient of expansion.
This lets us compress the filament into a small space, positioned close to the wall itself. (Ordinary glass couldn't stand being so close to such high heat.) The result is an extremely compact package. And there's a dividend: the high bulbwall temperature even incinerates dust particles on the outside of the lamp!

MANY FIXTURE TYPES AVAILABLE

Fixture manufacturers offer a variety of indoor and outdoor fixtures for use with Sylvania "I.Q." Lamps. There are small fixtures for precisely controlled narrow beams . . . as well as wide beam floodlighting fixtures. The lamp's tubular shape has allowed manufacturers to design fixtures that throw sharp patterns in a vertical plane with wide horizontal distribution. You put the light just where you want it. Our "I.Q." Lamps in such fixtures represent a highly efficient, economical, low maintenance lighting package.

Here's a close-up of the "Positive Fuse" right into "I.Q." Lamps. Sylvania was the first to come up with ihis innovation to help fixture design. Now there's no

more ordering and stocking fuses . . . no guesswork, no danger of using the wrong fuse. Fuse and lamp are perfectly matched for life and current characteristics. And our fused "I.Q." Lamps work in any fixture, fused or not.

WITH NEW SYLVANIA

l0Dil|IE-0tJAtTz LAMP$
With their compact size and high light output, Sylvania "I.Q." Lamps are being used today for just about every kind of application you can think of. And now we're offering a new, improved line. We've shortened yet light output is stitl as hiEh as the length of the coil and compressed it into a very small space - in over-all length they ever. There's no change fit existing fixtures. And the 500W and 1500W "I.Q." Lamps are now designed for "IJniversal Service." Syivania "f .Q." Lamps never blacken . . their lumen output never drops below 97/a throughout life. And our new irnproved lamps are an even more efficient LAMPS AT REGULAR LAMP PRICES We redesigned our entire "LQ." line of 500 and 1500 watt lamps so there's now a single fused "Universal Service" Lamp in each wattage and voltage type. These are versatile, all-purpose lamps for both every-day and rough service use . . . and all at the regular lamp price. Fixture manufacturers and lamp users both benefit. Because one lamp fits all needs, you'Il find stocking and purchasing much easier, You can even reduce your inventory. (Note that the new 400W lamp is not a rough service type.)

6. COMPACT, LIGHT WEIGHT Our 400W T4 Lamp is shorter than a king-size cigarette and only Yz" in diameter. Sylvania T3 "I.Q." Lamps are pencil-thin-only 45r(" and l0l' in length. This small size and light weight means hardly the fixtures are much *or. **pr.inoticeable. Thus installation and maintenance costs are lower.

2. MORE LIGHT Most powerful filament lamp for its size in the
world! Does the work of ordinary incandescents 10 times bigger in size. And the high initial brightness lasts the fuil life of the lamp. Sylvania's 1500W "LQ." Lamp delivers 22 lumens per watt throughout life. That's SQfi more light than you'd get from an ordinary PS-52 bulb!

NEVER DIM, THEY CLEAN THEMSELVES Lumen output doesn't drop below 97/s during tine entire rated life of these lamps. Ordinary lamps blacken as they age because of evaporating tungsten. The iodine gas in "I.Q."Lamps is an "antidote" to the tungsten. "I.Q." Lamps never blacken inside or out . . . keep on delivering as much light as the first day they were used" (See inside for more on the
iodine process.)

1500W "LQ." Lamps last twice as long. Rated life is 2000 hours. (1000 hours for the 400W lamp.) And throughout this long 1ife, you lose virtually none of the high-intensity light output.

THERMAI. SHOCKS You can take a hot "I.Q." Lamp out of its fixture and plunge it into ice water. It shrugs off the shock. This is because the tube is made of quartz, which has a low coefficient of expansion (and high melting point).

THE FUSE IS BUILT !N! A Sylvania first. We build a "Positive Fuse" right in, for your convenience and for the protection of the lamp. A lot of maintenance headaches are
cured. One operation replaces both lamp and fuse.
No guesswork and no danger of using the wrong fuse.

ACCURATE BEAM CONTROL Light beams as narrow as six degrees in one dimension!Because of the tubular shape of "I.Q." Lamps, manufacturers have been able to design fixtures that let you put all the light you want just where you want it. FEWER UNITS NEEDED Your investment is less when you use our "I.Q." Lamps. The high light output of these small iamps means you need fewer to get the light you want. You also have fewer lamps to maintain.
