Condential information for 2014 MBBS applicants

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
Instructions to MBBS interviewees
Please review the following information regarding preparation for and the structure of the Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) process.

This document is for Australian citizens and permanent residents and New Zealand citizens.
Dress code
Your appearance is not assessed at interview and all our interviewers are specically aware of this policy. However, it is in your interest to present yourself in a neat and appropriate manner. Due to the VTAC schedule we adhere to, late interviews can only be considered under extenuating circumstances supported by documented evidence. Late interviews are at the discretion of the Faculty. No interviews will be available after 22 January 2014. Only those applicants who attend an interview will be eligible for consideration for a place in the MBBS.

On the day of your interview

It is essential that you arrive on time for the start of your allocated circuit for registration and a brieng. The MMI will run for approximately 90 minutes; however, to maintain the interview content security, you may be required to attend for interview 2 hours prior or remain for an additional two (2) hours following your interview. This is called sequestering. You are not allowed to discuss the content of the MMI stations with anyone else. Given the competitive nature of the selection process, this is also in your best interest. Please note you will not be required to tell the interviewers where medicine at Monash lies on your VTAC preference list. If you require information on local hotel/motel accommodation, please see the following website for more information: www.med.monash.edu/medical/ central/year1-mbbs-info.html If you are travelling from interstate, we strongly recommend that you arrive the day before your interview to avoid unanticipated delays.

Multiple Mini Interview (MMI)

Monash MBBS uses a Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) for selection of students. MMI stations comprise a series of scenarios and associated questions focusing on an applicants: motivation; communication skills; critical thinking and ethical/empathetic reasoning. The MMI consists of eight interview stations. At each station the applicant will be interviewed for eight minutes followed by two minutes for changeover and reading time (i.e. ten minutes per station) with a circuit taking approximately 90 minutes to complete. Applicants will be invited (via email) to attend the MMI which will be held at Clayton campus. Pre-selection is based on a combination of your UMAT and ATAR scores.

Notication of results
In due course VTAC will inform you regarding the outcome of your application for a university place in 2014 (see VTAC guide for relevant details). The MBBS Admission requirements are included in this document. If you do not meet these requirements, please advise MBBS Admissions prior to attending the interview.
