Album/Artist: Iconography

1) Lissie Picture of the artist is placed at the right hand side this shows us her identity. The sun is shining on her face and side which highlights her. The reviews are down the left hand side and the white font stands out of the bleak black background. Finally the name of the artist takes up the majority of the page which stands out.

2) Bob Dylan The page has been split into thirds, two thirds used by the artists face which is a black and white sketch this relates to the soul music which he sings which relates to folk. The bottom third is used by firstly a picture of what the album contains and also writing about what the album includes. The image of the sketch used relates to the writing as it reads another self-portrait. The font used is plain this helps to keep attention on the sketch rather than the writing. The font is consistent throughout which keeps continuity.

3) Laura Mvula The iconography used shows a close up of the face of the artist at an angle so that we feel as though we are looking up towards her. The writing takes up a small amount of the page and is spread out. The iconography used is very simple.

Typography (font type/size)

The font used is very simple which doesnt distract from the picture of the artist. The colour used stands out on the dark background. Although the font used is simple it still stands out due to the size. In proportion the name of the artist is much larger than the reviews which shows the importance.

The font used fits the simple tone used throughout. The writing is very spaced out which makes it more obvious. The same font is used throughout which helps to keep continuity.

Use of colour

Colour is used very effectively in the advert as there is a black background used which shows weather. This gives the artist a slight rock and roll feel which is contrasted by the sun on the image which shows a slight down to earth folk feeling.

The name of the artist is typed in a blue colour- perhaps representing masculinity however due to it been baby blue it also gives connotations of something softer which makes it easy to relate to.

The use of colour is very effective in this advertisement. The white background shows connotations of purity and makes the woman seem angelic. The black contrasts with the background. The colour of the writing has connotations of champagne which shows class and slight wealth. The star persona gives the impression that she is a powerful individual due to the camera angle used and the stance.

Star Persona (how is the band/singer represented?)

The star persona is represented as important due to the use of a low camera angle. She is also represented as fashionable due to the artist styling as well as this it makes her more relatable as she seems to be the girl next door which relates to the sense of folk music.

The star persona represented in the advertisement shows seriousness due to the facial expression however also makes us feel as though we know the artist as we are close to him.
