Where education and the work world meet Program Offerings Auto Body Repair
Our brand new, state of the art, paint booth includes not only a down draft prep area but also advanced bake features. Students have the opportunity to learn concepts ranging from basic dent removal to structural repair, frame straightening, electrical repair, and full vehicle painting. Come meet our new instructor Alan Welch. This program covers all 9 areas associated with NATEF certification. Our ASE certified instructor, Aaron Schuster, designs activities for students to learn concepts initially in a classroom setting before moving to our full service shop area including five lifts, an extensive tool collection and advanced computer diagnostic equipment. Upon departure, our students can address problems at every end of the technological spectrum. The return of the Building Trades program this year has proved to be the return of one of the crown jewels of CAVC. Since 1973 Building Trades has built quality homes throughout Collinsville. Take a drive down Wilson, Junghas, Highland, High School or Keeneland streets to see some of our work. The CAVC Preschool (formerly PUPS) has been in operation for many years. In this environment, high school students learn not only developmental milestones for children of a variety of ages, but also learn to develop lessons and actually teach and care for three and four year old children. Our teachers Shawn Geppert and Akiya Perry do an outstanding job of caring for our kids both young and old. With an enrollment of over 50 students, Sherry Modeer, Mary Fedder, and Jennifer Cambell are diligently preparing students to earn certification as a C.N.A. By combining classroom instruction with real on-the-job experience at Rosewood Nursing Home, these students will be taking care of our loved ones immediately after graduation! This program is the first step in preparing future Police as well as Lawyers and Judges. Students investigate all aspects of the legal system. In addition to physical training, students get the opportunity to learn police techniques and crime scene investigation skills! Marcia Bedard, the Law Enforcement instructor has built this program into one that will prepare our students for a life protecting and serving our community. Kathy Hankins, our Electronics instructor, is in charge of one of our most rigorous programs. Students will learn to perform complete electrical analysis of complex dc and ac circuits consisting of resistors, capacitors, and inductors connected in various series, parallel, and series-parallel configurations. This course introduces students to an extensive study of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology. Also included is the study of first responder, first aid skills and training for emergency careers. Students who qualify may take the First Responder exam at the end of the school year. The Illinois Department of Public Health approves this as a First Responder course. Food Services, taught by William Craft, provides students the opportunity to run a full service kitchen while learning all of the aspects of food safety and sanitation. The Food Service kitchen serves lunch to CAVC students every Friday! While exploring a variety of food types ranging from Breakfast to Chinese, students are exposed to the wide and amazing world of food and food service. Project Lead the Way, one of the primer engineering programs in the country, was brought to Collinsville High School last year with the intent to prepare students for the Science Technology Engineering and Math related careers. Starting next year, this program will be available as a vocational course. The first two hour long courses, Introduction to Engineering Design and Principles of Engineering are already up and running thanks to the dedication of instructor Cindy Bednara. As one of the positions with the most job openings in the area, the Precision Machining course, taught by Justin Cann, is preparing students for the high paying field of Machining. With some of the newest and most advanced CNC mills and lathes, our students leave CAVC miles ahead of any other high school program. This course has laid the foundation for multiple top three state champions as well as a national champion at SKILLS USA. Technology and the Internet are one of the most widely used resources across the world. In Web Page Design, our students learn how to design, develop, and market resources on the web. Students explore a variety of programs including HTML, Photoshop, and Dreamweaver just to name a few. Mark Anderson has designed this course as a learning experience designed to provide the student with job entry-level welding skills. The majority of the time will be spent on hands-on training to stick arc welding, oxyacetylene welding, TIG welding, MIG welding, oxyacetylene cutting, arc air cutting, and plasma arc cutting on mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum in all positions. Safety, print reading, and employability skills, as well as, related information will be learned.
