VOCABULARY ARTIFACT another spelling of artefact GOODWILL - a feeling of wanting to be friendly and helpful to someone COMPOSER - someone who writes music, especially classical music ESSAY - a short piece of writing by a student on a particular subject FOLKLORE - traditional stories, sayings, and beliefs from a particular region or community SYMBOL - a picture or shape used to represent something BACKGROUND - the type of family, social position, or culture that someone comes from RHYTHM - a regular pattern of sounds or movements BEAT - to hit an object or part of the body with your hands MELODY - MUSIC a tune or song, especially a simple one ETHNICITY - the fact that someone belongs to a particular ethnic group DELEGATE - someone who is chosen to represent a group of other people at a meeting

TO ENDORSE - to express support for someone or something, especially in public. to approve, support, or sustain EX: to endorse a political candidate. TO REIMBURSE - to give someone the same amount of money that they have spent, for example on something connected with their work Ex: The company will reimburse you for your travelling expenses. VOCABULARY AMOUNT - a quantity of something BALANCE - a situation in which different aspects or features are treated equally or exist in the correct relationship to each other ENDORSEMENT - an occasion when someone gives official or public support to a particular person or thing BREW - to make a drink of tea or coffee BEFOREHAND - before a particular event: used especially for talking about something done in preparation for the event OVERDRAFT - an agreement with your bank that allows you to spend money when you have no money left in your account FUNDS - an amount of money that you collect, save, or invest NET - a system in which a set of computers are able to communicate with each other BRANCH - a part of a tree that grows out of its trunk (=main stem) with leaves, flowers, or fruit growing on it. TO OVERWHELM - to affect someone's emotions in a very powerful way EX: We were overwhelmed by the sacrifices they had made. TO PLASTER - to cover a surface or a place with labels, advertisements, pictures etc EX: He has posters of rock stars plastered all over the walls of his room. TO INCUR - to lose money, owe money, or have to pay money as a result of doing something EX: She may have to meet any costs incurred as a result of the delay. VOCABULARY PREMISES - the buildings and land that a business or organization uses SLUMP - to be suddenly reduced to a much lower level ERRANDS - a small job that involves going to collect or deliver something DRAW - to create a picture by making lines with a pen or pencil DECREE - an official decision or order made by a leader or government CREW - the people who work on a ship, aircraft etc: can be followed by a singular or plural verb WORTH - an amount measured by the financial value that it has HANDICRAFT - an activity in which people make beautiful objects using their hands POTTERY - objects such as plates and cups that are made out of clay and baked in an oven so that they become hard TAPESTRY - a thick heavy cloth that has pictures or patterns woven into it. Tapestries are often hung on walls. EXPRESSIONS LOW-BUDGET - made on or suited to a limited budget; "a low-budget movie"; "a low-budget menu" TO UPDATE - to add the most recent information to something such as a book, document, or list TO BE RIGHT UP MY ALLEY - something that is good or suitable for you TO BE IN TOUCH WITH - to be in contact, communication, or in sympathy. TO CATCH UP WITH - someone cannot do what they want to do because something such as a rule or law prevents it

TO UNDWIND - to become straighter or looser after being wrapped around something else, or to make something do this EX: She slowly unwound the scarf from around her neck. DAZZLING - extremely impressive FEASIBLE - possible or likely to succeed FEASIBILITY - the chances that something has of happening or being successful BREATHTAKING - extremely impressive or beautiful SHAREHOLDER - a stockholder HERBAL - connected with herbs, or made from herbs VIA - going through one place on the way to another place EXPRESSIONS TO CALL OFF to cancel or to suspend something LOADS OF TIME much time BY HEART TO HAND IN - to hand, to give, to deliver TO HOLD OUT FOR - if you are in charge, you have control over someone or something and are responsible for them LESSON 11 BOOK 9 VERBS TO ENROLL - if you enroll at a school or other institution, or if someone enrols you there, you put your name on the official list of its students or members. TO POLISH - to rub the surface of something in order to make it shine EX: They spend most of their time polishing shoes.
