Luis Rodrguez. I.D.: 19 166 225 Drama analysis: La Otra Mujer.

This drama is about two sisters who have different ways of thoughts between two sisters. One is old-fashioned way, believes that men have more power and rights than women. The other sister is a revolutionary; she believes in equality of both genres; that women have been mistreated and left to be machines made for mens entertainment, production of kids and their upbringing, and this has to change for the society. The scene of the drama is very simple: a wide space that represents some location of the sisters house. It has three wooden boxes which contain certain elements used in the play. Some of them were a rosary, a construction helmet, a puppet, and others. Those items are used by both sisters to make their acts more impacting or meaningful. The lights were appropriated, most of the scene was obscure and lights always aimed to the actresses and followed them. The sound of the play was used to create a connection between the message and the audience; some of the musicalization expressed the bad situation of women in society, and some of it was related to the connection of the human and the earth. The whole stage is well used for the drama, related to the main idea and with a sentimental message. The actresses were coherent to the main idea of the play. Both of them expressed and represented their position with the clothing and the verbal and corporal communication. They were wearing dresses, representing the fact that they were women. The acting is very intense at the moment of confrontation. They use a mixed vocabulary between a formal and a colloquial speech. The author creates la Otra Mujer with the intention of take a view at the actual soc iety, damaged and discriminatory, by a drama that mixes the tragedy of the sisters lives and the sarcastic comedy of the jokes about society. He starts the story with the discussion that last until the end of the play but, at that point, is just a conversation between the sisters, talking about the negative situation woman is suffering in the society, the degradation suffered because of the maleness; one of the sisters supports this life style and the other one avoids conformism and a slave-like life. This conversation keeps going and a moment comes when the conformist sister starts to analyze her situation as a cattle with only purpose of give pleasure to man, procreate and raise children. The climax comes when she is almost convinced that her life was so empty at that moment. After realizing this, she decides to commit suicide because she felt like she had and was nothing. The play comes to its end when she reconsiders her situation, overcomes the depression and is determined to start a revolution in favor of women. The audience was very respectful at the moment of the play. All of them were distributed on seats, so vision was not obstructed. There were moments when audience laughed because of the funny situation of the play, but immediately they went quite again, so the play continued normally.
