RAMANUJAM MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT PROGRAMME National Conference On CURRENT SCENARIO IN INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS- A NATIONAL PERSPECTIVE We are glad to inform you that the Tamil Nadu Institute of Labour Studies, Chennai and the National Centre for Industrial Harmony, Chennai jointly organizes the G. RAMANUJAM MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT PROGRAMME on CURRENT SCENARIO IN INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS- A NATIONAL PERSPECTIVE on 19th February 2014. The Seminar will focus on the recent trends and developments in the industrial relations, especially in the national perspective. This seminar also touches upon upcoming issues and challenges in the current scenario of Industrial Relations. ABOUT THE INSTITUTE The Tamil Nadu Institute of Labour Studies, Chennai was constituted by the Government of Tamil Nadu on 29.3.1973 In order to expand its activities the Government of Tamil Nadu has upgraded this Institute as a first class Institute on 30.3.1978. It is functioning as an autonomous Institution under the Labour and Employment Department of the Government of Tamilnadu. The Tamilnadu Institute of Labour Studies is conducting Training Programmes, Seminars, Refreshment Courses, Orientation Programmes, etc. in Collaboration with International Labour Organisation (ILO) and VV. Giri National Labour Institute. Ever since its inception the TILS is providing capacity building and technical support to: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. In addition to the above training programmes, the Tamil Nadu Institute of Labour Studies offers full time courses in B.A. (Labour management) and M.A.(Labour management), one year part time course viz. Post graduate Diploma in Labour Administration and Diploma in Labour Law & Administrative Law (DLL). The University of Madras has recognised this Institute as a Research Institute for conducting Ph.D programme. More than 2000 students from Tamilnadu Institute of labour studies are placed in reputed industries in and around the country over these years.

ABOUT THE CHAIR INSTITUTED IN THE MEMORY OF LATE THIRU. G. RAMANUJAM The National centre for Industrial Harmony in association with INTUC has instituted a Chair in this Institute in memory of Late Shri. G. Ramanujam, a veteran Trade Union Leader. He was born on 28 May 1915 at Edircottal village, Ramanathapuram District in Tamil Nadu. He was trained in trade union work during 1945 47 at the Hindusthan Mazdoor Sevak Sangh and Majur Mahajan, Ahmedabad, an institution founded by Mahatma Gandhi. He was one of the Founder-Members of the Indian National Trade Union Congress formed in 1947. He was the President of INTUC from 1958 to 1960. He was General Secretary of the INTUC from 1964 till 1984. In 1985, he was once again became the President of the INTUC and continued in that office till 3rd August 1994. He took the office as the Governor of Goa on 4th August, 1994. On transfer, he was sworn in as the Governor of Orissa from1995 to 1999. As an eminent trade unionist and public leader, Shri Ramanujam was on the Board of Directors of a number of Public Undertakings and other bodies.. He has attended a number of International Conferences abroad. Shri Ramanujam was the author of a number of books on Industrial Relations and various aspects of Management. His published works are 1. He was conferred the honour of Padma Bhusan by the President of India in 1985. He breathed his last on 26th June 2001.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE Effective Industrial relations means Industrial peace and harmony which is indispensable for better and higher production. Healthy Industrial Relations is the key to progress of individuals, management, industry and nation. It aims at uninterrupted production, reduction in industrial disputes, high morale, mental revolution, economic growth and development, discourages unfair practices & enactment of statutory provisions. Today, Indian economy is opened up to face global competition and there is already a rush of foreign capital and industry into the country. This change in the economic environment has altered the entire gamut of structures, styles, and contents of all those who have a stake in the economic firmament of this country. TILS is organizing memorial lecture on his Excellency G. Ramanujam every year. This year the national Centre for Industrial Harmony and the Tamilnadu Institute of labour Studies organizes a National Conference on CURRENT SCENARIO IN INDUSTRIAL RELATIONSA NATIONAL PRESPECTIVE on 29th January 2014. This seminar will concentrate on the changes in the industrial relations scenario of our country and attempts to put forth a possible futuristic view on Industrial Relations.

Note: Papers related to the seminar theme and topics of original research work will be considered for presentation. There is no registration fee. PUBLICATION OF PAPERS All papers are subjected to scrutiny by an expert committee and selected papers will be pre reviewed and evaluated based on the uniqueness and relevance. Accepted paper(s) will be published in the edited volume with ISBN number IMPORTANT DATES Abstract Submission: 20th January 2014 Full Paper Submission: 25th January 2014 Authors Registration: 17th February 2014 Conference Date: 19th February 2014 SUBMISSION PROCEDURE Papers and abstracts must be submitted in MS-Word Format in two copies (not more than two pages). Times New Roman font with 12 point size. Single spacing in A4 Size paper.

Papers may be presented either by the author or by the co-author. All papers are subject to scrutiny by an expert committee and only the selected papers are to be presented in the seminar.
