Paper Presentation

General Instructions Team size is restricted to maximum of three members. Presentation to be made by only one member. The decision of the judges shall be final and binding All papers should have a bibliography/works-cited page and appropriate footnotes. Papers omitting a bibliography will be automatically disqualified. The paper must be typed single-spaced in 12-point Times New Roman and contain between 1000 and 1500 words on the theme RURAL- URBAN DIVIDE. Ruralization a need for growing India Integration of rural youth in urban jobs Title pages, tables of contents, accompanying illustrations, tables, figures and bibliographies shall not be counted toward the limit. The contestants are required to send only a soft copy of their entry to the following mail ID: div07rajan@gmail.com with subject paper presentation: <college name> latest by January 14th, 2013. Rules Preceding Presentation Round Each team/entrant must formally present his or her paper at the day of the event. Presentations must be no longer than 10 +2 minutes. All short-listed participants are required to bring two hard copies of their paper along with them on the day of the event. The softcopy that has been sent cannot be changed or edited and the same must be presented as hard-copy.

DEBATE
SELECTION Selection for the final rounds of the debate will be based on a written test, if more than 8 entries are received. Written test will be comprised of questions testing argumentative skills and multiple choice questions on general knowledge and current affairs, top 8 teams will be selected for the final rounds of the debate. (Quality of written English will not be a factor in the final decision) FORMAT Each team will consist of 2 individuals. Each speaker gets a maximum of 8 minutes for a

speech.

OF DEBATE: are permitted to ask each other questions during the course of the debate by putting their hand up. The choice to accept the question or not lies with the person making the speech. (Points will be awarded for accepting questions) Topics will be given 15min before the start of the debate, giving teams to come up with arguments. TOPICS Topics will be given on the spot. Topics will be from current as well as past economic issues. Participants are advised to read up on current global as well as local economic issues. If the organizing committee feels that a certain topic requires further explanation, a topic guide will be given to the participants to use during preparation time. (Topic guide will not be given for all topics) The final round of the debate will be a knock out round. There will be a quarter finals with 4 debates, then semis with 2 debates then finals.

General Instructions to participants: A maximum of THREE members per team. A team consists of ONE member who can act as a Minister and the others as accompanying Advisors. Only Ministers can address the floor. The floor consists of the Opposition Team

RATIONALITY

Are you as rational as Mankiv expects? Well give you the parameters. Youll do the rest. Rack your brains and push it to the limits of logic as we try to find if you truly are, As Rational as it Gets? EVENT INFO The game is designed to test your rationality and sense as a consumer. It also brings forth an age old irk of Microeconomic, illustrating how it actually works. The Objective of the game is..wait for it..maximize your utility by performing a set of consumption based activities, given a level of constraints. Each team represents ONE rational consumer. You have a given amount of time, money and energy at the beginning of the round. All activities you perform will cost you some amount of the aforementioned and will fetch you a given level of utility. Your objective is to maximize your utility by dividing your time, money and energy among all these activities such that none of the three remain at the end of the round. RULES AND REGULATIONS Each team consists of 2 members. Each of the consumption activities we provide should be tried at least once. It is essential that you are left with no money or energy at the end of the time frame. You have 45 minutes. Are you as Rational as it Gets?

UNMANAGEABLE
If managing a business, making profits and lobbying relentlessly are your cup of tea, we put forward to you the ultimate business and management test. Be warned, cutthroat competition will ensue! While the only question that remains unanswered is Can you manage the unmanageable? EVENT INFO We like to think that any successful business is an all man show rather than a one man enterprise. Therefore each team consists of 4 members 1 Manager and 3 Heads of Departments, namely Financing, Research and Development and Marketing. Each time will be provided a brief introduction about a business opportunity and the necessary context will be exemplified. Each team will prepare The Plan. The manager will interact with the 3 Heads of Department and choose the best plan of action that complements each department while keeping the parameters and complexities in mind. The manager is the link between the different Heads of Department and these Heads of Departments cannot interact with each other. The manager will present The Plan before our panel of judges in a time frame of 5 minutes. The judges will interrogate and the team shall be marked on the basis of management skills, presentation skills, best alternative trade off decision making, communication skills and most importantly, out of box thinking.

RULES AND REGULATIONS 4 Members a team, 1 Manager and 3 HODs The 3 HODs will be provided with, separate sheets to fill out at the discretion of the manager. The time limit for preparation of The Plan is 90 minutes. The time limit for the presentation of The Plan is 5 minutes.

The 3 HODs cannot interact with each other and can only communicate via their Manager. Any attempt to communicate by the HODs will be met by swift disqualification. Twist your head inside out and do the impossible, manage the Unmanageable.

Stress Interview: Will you bend or will you break?


Wanted: A candidate who can handle pressure, work under stress and deliver results. On the panel are eminent corporate gurus who are "hungry" for fresh blood talent. Even though conventional rules of interviewing do not apply, please do turn up in formals with your rsums as we are highly professional in our conduct.

HORSE TRADE

Barter your way out...! The Barter system - how hard can it be? Well, watch the madness unfold as we recreate this age old system. The objective is simple. Every team is given a certain set of commodities which they must trade to meet the required stock. Watch the madness unfold. Rules & Regulations: Teams consist of 3 members- One manager and two employees. The team manager is not allowed to leave the area allotted to him/her. Violation of the same will result in elimination. However, the manager can move at the time of formation of the trade unions after the first round. Every team is given a limited quantity of a set of commodities- the HAVE list and another list of commodities they have to barter and achieve - the WANT list. No extra points will be given if the team acquires more quantity of commodity than required. The objective is to meet your WANT list but with minimal exhaustion of your HAVE list. The game will take place in three phasesBarter Round 1 Strategy break (For formation of trade unions) Barter Round 2 The teams after the Barter Round 1 may form trade unions of at least two teams between themselves.

Each team has to maintain an individual (single) balance sheet of transaction in each round, even after the formation of trade unions. P.S Watch out for the Wraiths.

Mejor Maestro
Do you think you have the simple skill to teach economics to the layman? Objective: The contestant has to explain the given basic economic theory or principle as simple as possible to the layman crowd. The one who explains it in the simplest & most unique method is the winner. Rules & Regulations Single participant event. Colleges can send in a maximum of two individual participants. The event consists of two rounds; Prelims and a Final. Prelims round: The contestant has the freedom to choose his/her topic (with relation to economics) & explain. Final round: Topic will be given to the contestant (the topic can be a mixture of economic and specific awareness. E.g.: Greshams law, MGNREGA etc.) Use any innovative way of explaining. Board, marker and a duster will be provided. Make use of it. (We expect you to!) Time limit of 5 minutes will be given to explain the topic. This will be followed by a questioning session by judges and fellow contestants. ( For a maximum of 3 minutes) Rebuttal is allowed only once per contestant. Judges evaluation will be based on simplicity in approach, the method of explanation, out of box thinking and the contestants way of tackling the questions.

Creative Writing
Looking for a place to spill your creative juices? Look no further. If you can tell stories, create characters, devise incidents and have the imagination for it, this is your center stage. Bring forth the writer in you and let the words flow. Take heed. Stringing together words merely to form logical sentences will not be appreciated.
Rules and Regulations: 1. Registration is mandatory. 2. All entries must be original works, in English. Plagiarism, which includes the use of third-party poetry, song lyrics and characters, will not be tolerated. 3. Topic will be given on the spot. Word limit is 750 words. Time Limit 40minutes. 4. All entries must have a Title, the author's name and the College he/she represents. 5. The decisions of the judges are entirely their own, and are final.
The English language is at your disposal. Be creative. Be funny. Be sarcastic. Be philosophical. Be anything. Write the way you want to. Youve been given the ultimate freedom. Make use of it

Snapshot
The event is divided into two. 1) ONLINE EVENT An online open competition which should best describe the theme for Artha 14- "Rural-Urban divide", multiple entries are allowed. Inbox your submissions to Artha2014 along with your name and the name of your institution. Best photos will be shortlisted on the basis of their popularity and winning entries decided by our panel of judges will be exhibited during Artha14.

The contest will be held till January 20th till 6pm. 2) PANORAMA Capture the best moments of ARTHA 2014 spanning all three days. Artha is your muse and show us Artha through your eyes. The best photographer and the best photos will be announced on the final day of the event. Only on-site submission will be accepted and multiple entries are encouraged. All the photographs should be submitted daily by 6pm.

STREET PLAY
TAKE IT TO THE STREETS No one can claim a stake on art hence we take it rightfully to where it belongs- THE STREETS. RULES
1. Participating team should bring their props and all other items needed for the play. 2. Audio systems will not be provided so be loud and be heard. 3. Only one team per college comprising of minimum 3 to maximum 6. 4. Topic should relate to the theme of ARTHA 2014 "RURAL URBAN DIVIDE". 5. Judges decisions are final. 6. Maximum time allowed is 5 min.

ECOMAZE
Find your way out of the maze. General Instructions A completely outdoor event The event must consist of exactly two participants in a team. The event contains elements of treasure hunt and puzzle solving The event is based on a path that goes around the college and has a start and a finish point The map of the track will be given to the participants There would be challenges along the path which can only be solved based on the economic know-how of the participant The event is time based Points are awarded based on two criteria time taken and challenges completed The winner would be the one who has the highest total of both the time and challenge points No help from other team mates are permitted while the event is in progress

MOCK-STOCK
Play the stock market. Rules Team comprises of 2 members The game will be carried on the basis of the market info given to you The team losing twice will be removed from the game. Further information will be given on the spot.
