Kindergarten Weekly Newsletter

Week in Review: February 3 - 7

Forms that went home this week: o B Sound Connections sheets (white) o Updated transition list to use for Valentines (attached below)

Everyone has loved the Dr. Seuss books brought in this week! Students are joining in to

read the silly rhymes and identifying favourite pages. Students moved through a variety of math stations this week, working on sequencing, matching numbers to items in a picture, and fishing for a number of fish rolled with a dice (they loved using mini fishing rods!). We continued to work on reducing our carbon footprint for our Polar Bear Project. Ask us about how we are keeping track of our progress! Also ask us about our door decorating project! Students enjoyed exploring a variety of bear items, including a skull, a pelt from a black bear, a radio collar, various fur samples and footprint molds. They especially loved looking at the rubber bear scat and searching for the scat that belongs to different animals on a poster ! Check out our blog pictures! We finished the sequence on This is Not My Hat. Students went into groups to role play as one of the three characters as the book was read aloud. Ask your child which character they were and how they acted out their part. We were busy artists this week! First we created an image from paper heart shapes that we cut out then glued to construction paper, and then we created polar bear art by each making a crayon resist painting. Check out our polar bear artwork in the display case in the school lobby! The letter B and its sound were introduced this week. Many students will confuse lowercase b with lowercase d and often this isnt sorted out for some students until grade one or two. We used the chant Bertie bat comes before Billy ball to symbolize making the line down before making the circle of the b.

The Blue group had a great time creating heart maps at Garden View Village. Check out
the pictures on our blog! We continue to love our trips to the swimming pool! During K/1 time, we talked about families and the similarities and differences between them. Ask your child what they and their grade 1 buddy came up with! Thank you for sending in your ski forms! Mrs. Watson will be busy processing all of the forms and getting passes and rentals figured out!

Volunteer Opportunities

If you are interested in volunteering for our visits to Garden View Village on a Wednesday morning (9:30-11:30), please let us know via email. If you are able to volunteer for our ski days and did not indicate this on the ski forms, please let us know. The majority of our students will be on the bunny hill/magic carpet area and we need lots of helping hands there (no skis/pass required).

Upcoming

We will be performing a mini Winter Concert for our senior friends on February 19. Both groups of students will attend, as this will be our last visit until April. Students are encouraged to dress up for this day. Thank you! Ms. Scott and Mrs. Burgess
