Focus Introduction: What does it mean to be Healthy?

Learning Sequence Watch Video One: Meeting a healthier me from Notebook. Discussion: What does it mean? How do you find, or not lose this healthy version of you in the first place? What influences our health? Discuss. Open screen four and make notes. Watch Video Two: Who or what influences your eating? Does this have a positive or negative effect?

Making healthy food choices

Watch the story of the Very Hungry Caterpillar. Complete interactive activity to decide which food the caterpillar should eat to stay healthy. Make a list of all the food you eat in one day. Write it in your book or set aside as you will need it in next lesson.

Making healthy food choices

Look at list of food eaten in one day from previous lesson. Use the healthy eating pyramid, look at the food you ate in one day and circle each item depending on where it belongs on the pyramid. Look at recommended daily allowances of foods for children. How does this match with what you ate? Why are there different recommendations for different people? Discuss. How do we make better choices? Watch Video Three: Mistakes we make when food shopping.

Whats Really in the Food we Eat?

Look at the importance of reading labels so we really know what is in the food we eat. But how do we read the label and what does it mean? Watch Video Three from slide 2: Mistakes we make when food shopping. Look at packaging from three different varieties of the one item. Which is better for you? Why? Introduce Foodswitch App. Try on different packages. Either use packaging that students have from food at school or bring extra packaging in.

More than just ingredients. Discuss additives. What they are and why they are in certain foods. How can the inclusion of additives effect our personal food choices and help us to stay healthy? Choose five of your favourite packaged foods. Read the label and compete the worksheet. Look up the website listed on the slide. Go to the shopping list and find an alternative for each of the packaged foods on the worksheet from the previous lesson. Write them on the bottom of the sheet.

Making positive choices about the use of drugs

Brainstorm what the word drug means. Write ideas on slide 7. After brainstorming look at slide 8 for definition from the World Health Organisation. After reading this reflect on initial ideas then add examples to slide 8.

Culminating Activity: Assessment Targeted Assessment

Create a healthier version of yourself. Use Glogster or some other platform to make a poster which shows ways of keeping healthy.
