AIMS/OBJECTIVES: A). SPECIFIC AIMS: by the end of the lesson the Ss. will be able to: - greet correctly, with proper intonation; - use the new vocabulary structure to meet, greet and introduce people in English; - describe what they/other people are doing; - tell what customs other nations have when meeting or introducing people; B) AFFECTIVE AIMS: - to create a warm atmosphere in order to offer the background for smooth, easy conversations between T. and Ss. - to help Ss. become more confident when speaking English. STAGES OF THE LESSON: ACTIVITY 1: ORGANISATIONAL MOMENT (1`) PROCEDURE: T enters the room, greets the Ss., asks if there are any absentees and talks to the Ss. asking them how they are doing. Ss. greet and answer the questions. AIM: - to cheer up the Ss. and to prepare Ss. for the lesson. TECHNIQUES : discussion. INTERRACTION : T-->S; S-->T;

ACTIVITY 2: WARM-UP (3`) PROCEDURE: T gives commands to the Ss. (e.g. Stand up! Sit down! Touch your nose! Clap your hands! etc. T. will use this technique whenever necessary during the class to refresh the spirit of the Ss.). If Ss. are still not prepared for the lesson, T will ask them to sing a song to cheer them up. Ss. are usually happy to participate. AIM: - to cheer up the Ss. and stir up their interest in the topic and also to prepare them for the lesson. ACTIVITY 3: CHECKING PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE (6`) PROCEDURE: T. asks the Ss. about their homework checking it frontally (What was your homework for today?) and then individually by verifying Ss` notebooks. T. asks questions about their homework and the Ss. answer the questions. AIM: - to check the acquiring of previous knowledge and to give the Ss. feedback regarding their work at home. TECHNIQUES: Questioning; INTERACTION: T-->S, S-->T;

ACTIVITY 4: INTRODUCTION OF THE TOPIC (2`) PROCEDURE: T shows Ss. some flashcards and asks them What are they doing? T. then asks the Ss. (If Ss. do not respond, T. asks again helping them once more Are they drinking a tea?), and then Ss. answer the question. Thus T. introduces the topic: This is what we are learning today: to meet, greet and introduce people in English! Look at page 17and write in your notebooks:

ACTIVITY 5: ACQUISITION OF THE NEW KNOWLEDGE (8`) PROCEDURE: Ss. are given some hand-outs and asks Ss. to listen to a recording about introducing people and fill in the blanks. Ss. proceed. T. makes sure the Ss. fill in the blanks correctly. AIM: - in order for the Ss. to read correctly, with a proper intonation. -to SKILLS INVOLVED: listening, reading, writing; TECHNIQUES : Conversation, Closed-ended questioning, Repetition, INTERRACTION : T-->Ss; Ss-->T;

ACTIVITY 6: PRACTICE (5`) PROCEDURE: T. then asks Ss. to look in their textbooks at exercise number 5, page18. Look at those children! What are they doing? Match the sentences with the pictures. Ss. answer T.`s questions matching the sentences with the pictures writing it down in their notebooks. While at this exercise T. explains the new words meet, greet to shake hands, and any expressions Ss. seem not to understand, putting them down on the board and the Ss. in their notebooks. AIM: - in order for the Ss. to use the vocabulary for meeting, greeting and introducing people. SKILLS INVOLVED: speaking, reading, writing; TECHNIQUES : Conversation, Deduction of meaning. ACTIVITY 7: PRODUCTION (8`) PROCEDURE: T. asks the Ss. to role play meeting, greeting and introducing themselves to their desk mates in pairs. Ss. proceed. AIM: - to put the Ss. in real instances of communication - meeting, greeting and introducing people. - to make Ss. use the vocabulary structures they acquired. SKILLS INVOLVED: speaking; TECHNIQUES : Role-play. INTERRACTION : T-->Ss; Ss-->T; Ss-->Ss;

ACTIVITY 8: THE CULTURAL MOMENT (12`) PROCEDURE: T. asks Ss. to look at exercise 6, page 19 and read the text to find out customs of other nations when introducing or meeting people. After reading and translating the text Ss. are asked to work in groups. Each group is given one nation. Ss. have to read the text again and write down the customs of that nation when meeting a person in 4 minutes time. Then Ss. read their written production and T. makes any necessary correction. AIM: - reading correctly, with proper intonation. - to find out customs of other nations when meeting other persons thus enriching Ss` general knowledge and make any possible interdisciplinary connection; SKILLS INVOLVED: reading; listening; writing; TECHNIQUES:. ACTIVITY 9: ASIGNING HOMEWORK (3`) PROCEDURE: Ss. are asked to fill in a grid using the information from the text in exercise 5. Extra homework for the volunteers --to write a short letter to their English penfriend using simple sentences to describe Romanian customs when meeting people. T. reminds Ss. to use the text from exercise 5 and writes the homework on the bb and the Ss. in their notebooks. T makes sure all the Ss. know what their homework is by writing it on the board and by explaining it in Romanian. AIM: - to consolidate the knowledge acquired during the class. - to make sure all Ss. know what their homework consists of. INTERRACTION : T-->Ss., Ss.-->T;

ACTIVITY 10: EVALUATION/ASSESSEMENT (2`) PROCEDURE: T asks the Ss. about the lesson if it was easy or difficult and praises the activity of the Ss. both verbally and by giving marks. AIM: - to increase the Ss.` self-confidence and encourage Ss. in their study of English.
