Letter of the Year 2014 and Some Thoughts

Here is the Cuba Ifa predictions for the year .. oddly enough earthquakes are mentioned in this sign and Cuba just had one.. If I follow any sign of the year its this one i dont buy into all these different places having their own letters of the year. At some point you have to ask your self what does this all mean? I have one number for Cuba, one for the US, one for my state, one for Brooklyn, one for my Ile, and one for my self and if you have santo made your ita (which really is the only reading that matters after one does santo). Some people even get a whole new set of numbers for pinaldo. It crazy and at some point it all becomes a mush of non-sense. So, if we are talking about the world at large and the Orishas that reign, this is the one I trust. We are new world Lukumi our practice comes from Cuba, by way of Africa, but Cuba non-the less. The number you receive in a reading, especially if you havent made santo is the number of primary importance to you for the next 3-6 months. The one from Cuba I am posting is about what we can expect as a civilization for 2014 and whos influence is strongest this year. Having said this, you may be asking yourself, If we are Lukumi and that comes from Cuba, isnt Ifa more african in influence? And my answer would be yes and this is a good time to mention our particular houses position with regard to IFA as there is an ongoing, tedious battle between the factions of Ocha and Ifa about who is more legit and who does what and gays and blah blah blah

So here is where we are with IFA We are a house of Ocha and we do work with Ifa if or when appropriate AND we have someone that is not only proved themselves in the community, but is also someone we like and is not charging the moon and stars for services. At the moment I am lucky to be working with a Babalawo that I like for the little things here and there we/I need but i that relationship were, for whatever reason, to become problematic, I/we just go back to doing things purely Ocha. As Ocha people we can do everything we need for ourselves. It is a great thing to have access to the world of Ifa in a positive way, but not a necessity. There is a lot to be gained from IFA but at the end of the day our religion is about survival, maximizing whats available and morphing to accommodate the ever changing world for survival. Lukumi has survived slavery and endured so much so that we can be blessed with its ache. We must NEVER forget that and respect our Lukumi practices for that very reason. If we go around doubting our own practices that were so painfully preserved and enriched through the struggles of the slaves who suffered and fought tooth and nail to keep this alive, many of them losing their lives because of it, then their struggle was for nothing. No one from outside of our Lukumi elders is going to come and say we are doing things wrong. We are two distinct traditions born of the same ideology and as such, and looking at it this way, there is not a problem.
