and coats. If you have something that you no longer need and want to give it, bring it by the church and we will see that it gets to someone who can use it. Matthew 25:40 Truly I say to you, as you did to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.

This month we would like to answer some questions about the Order. What is The Order of Saint Luke? The OSL is an ecumenical organization dedicated to the Christian Healing Ministry. Who can join the OSL? Membership is open to anyone who feels called to the healing ministry. You can join even if you need healing for yourself. Many people find themselves drawn to this ministry because they are in need of healing and feel that only through Gods help can they be healed. Do we learn to heal in OSL? No, that would be contrary to Scripture. Only God heals. What we learn is how to open ourselves up to call on God in the name of Jesus to send his spirit of healing into the person in need. Does God still perform miracles today? YES, God did not place a time limit on when miracles can occur. I have personally witnessed healing that could only have happened through Gods Grace. What is Gods purpose for the OSL and what is my part in this? God demonstrated through Jesus that He wants all mankind to be whole and Christ sent his disciples out into the world with instructions to heal the sick. James 5:14 gives instructions for what to do if anyone is sick and our role is to assist in following these direction by praying and laying on of hands. Is finding peace part of the work of the OSL? Praying for peace of mind is definitely part of the mission of the OSL. We pray that a person be made completely whole in body, mind and spirit. When we are filled with Gods spirit we will be full of the peace of God. How do I know if God is calling me to be a part of the OSL? In prayer we ask for Gods guidance for our life and seek his will for what we are to do with that life. If Gods plan for us to be a part of this ministry we will know if we open our self up to him. Does anyone get healed in the OSL? Yes, there are many documented cases of people receiving healing. It isnt necessary to be in the OSL to receive healing, it is a means of drawing together people who believe in this healing. What does healing have to do with our modern health care system? God provides many avenues to healing and our health care system is part of it. God gives to people the ability to be Doctors and Nurses so it is all part of his plan. Is the OSL faith healing? NO, anyone who claims to be a faith Healer is misled only God can heal, God uses many people as channels of his healing but they are only channels. Faith can be likened to the wire through which electricity flows, the wire cannot provide heat or light but only the electricity that flows through it can provide these results. What do medical professionals think about the OSL? Many have probably never heard of the OSL and each of them have different views, however, many medical people have come to realize that people that receive prayers and have a strong relationship with God recover better and faster than those that dont. Some have come to know the healing power of prayer as another tool to bring health to people. Doctors can cure you but only God can heal you. Is there an age limit for membership? No, if a person is mature enough to know what God is calling them to do with their life they are old enough to be a member of OSL, however they would be teamed with adult members until they were eighteen. Do you feel called by God to this ministry? If so or if you just want more information talk to any of our members.
Sanyu Babies Home Needs Drive: The WOSD, DOK, Outreach Committee, and Childrens Christian
Education are joining together to collect items needed by the Sanyu Babies Home in Kampala, Uganda. Our Sanyu Babies Home Needs Drive runs through February 14, Valentines Day! Look for the collection box in our parish hall. Sanyu Babies Home was founded in 1930 by a British missionary to provide for those infants and children who are found abandoned on the streets in gutters and trash bins and on door steps often as a result of HIV and respiratory illnesses. Sanyu Babies Home has gone from a dark, dingy and sparsely staffed building to a bright, happy, home for up to 50 infants and children through age 4 staffed by senior nurses, social workers, and teachers. Sanyu Babies Home relies on the generous gifts of supporters and missionaries who are able to carry supplies to them.
Donated items will be transported to Sanyu with Diane Stantons Uganda Christian Partners mission trip in March 2014 by our three St. Davids missionaries, Eddie and Linda Touraine and Merrily Prescott. Monetary donations will be used to purchase baby formula and feeding bottles in country as these items are too bulky to pack for the mission trip. Needed items are: baby crocs, baby clothing (newborn to 4yrs), baby caps, light weight receiving blankets, baby wipes, disposable gloves (for changing diapers), Pampers (premature & newborn size only), hand, sanitizer, sterilizing/water purification tablets (found with camping supplies), stationery (any kind), childrens toothbrushes, childrens toothpaste, Onesies. Together the WOSD, DOK, Outreach Committee, and Childrens Christian Education thank you in advance for your prayers for Sanyu Babies Home and your contributions!

George Herbert was born in 1593, a cousin of the Earl of Pembroke. His mother was a friend of the poet John Donne. George attended Trinity College, Cambridge, and became the Public Orator of the University, responsible for giving speeches of welcome in Latin to famous visitors, and writing letters of thanks, also in Latin, to acknowledge gifts of books for the University Library. This brought him to the attention of King James I, who granted him an annual allowance, and seemed likely to make him an ambassador. However, in 1625 the king died, and George Hebert, who had originally gone to college with the intention of becoming a priest, but had head turned by the prospect of a career at Court, determined anew to seek ordination. In 1626 he was ordained, and became vicar and then rector of the parish of Bemerton and neighboring Fugglestone, not far from Salisbury. He served faithfully as a parish priest, diligently visiting his parishioners and bringing them the sacraments when they were ill, and food and clothing when they were in want. He read Morning and Evening Prayer daily in the church, encouraging the congregation to join him when possible, and ringing the church bell before each service so that those who could not come might hear it and pause in their work to join their prayers with his. He used to go once a week to Salisbury to hear Evening Prayer sung there in the cathedral. On one occasion he was late because he
had met a man whose horse had fallen with a heavy load, and he stopped, took off his coat, and helped the man to unload the cart, get the horse back on its feet, and then reload the cart. His spontaneous generosity and good will won him the affection of his parishioners. Today, however, he is remembered chiefly for his book of poems, The Temple, which he sent shortly before his death to his friend Nicholas Ferrar, to publish if he thought them suitable. They were published after Herbert's death, and have influenced the style of other poets, including Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Several of them have been used as hymns, in particular "Teach me, my God and King," and "Let all the world in every corner sing." Another of his poems contains the lines: Prayer, the Church's banquet, Angel's age,God's breath in man returning to his birth,The soul in paraphrase, the heart in pilgrimage,The Christian plummet sounding heav'n and earth. Prayer Our God and King, who called your servant George Herbert from The pursuit of worldly honors to be a pastor of souls, a poet, and a priest in your temple: Give us grace, we pray, joyfully to perform the tasks you give us to do, knowing that nothing is menial or common that is done for your sake; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Our prayers and best wishes for those celebrating their birthday: 2/5 Wendy Bussell, Lynne Prater; 2/6 John
