Structure
HCl:
* Covalent bonds. * Slightly hazardous. * If touched get help immediately. When touching use a barrier cream.
Al:
* Ionic bonds * Not hazardous. Although molten aluminum can be very hot so protect skin from any contact with molten aluminum.
Bauxite acids
Equations
Word Equations: Hydrochloric acid+ aluminum The balanced chemical equation. HCl+Al AlCl+2H
Equations
H-Gas Cl- Gas Al- Metal Law of Conservation of Mass: The law of conservation of mass states that matter cannot be destroyed or created. This relates to Single Replacement Reaction because when we write the balanced chemical equation we cannot lose or gain matter. We are simply changing the placement.
History
HCl: Was discovered by Jabir ibn Hayyan at around 800 AD. Al: Was discovered by Hans Christian Oersted in 1825.
I could not find the person that discovered the reaction itself. Nor could I find how and when it was discovered.
Hans Christian
HCl+Al
Examples of where this reaction commonly occurs: It usually occurs in the industrial factories, labs (physics experiments). Useful applications of this reaction in the world: It is not used in everyday life but it is often used in the industry. It is used as used bleaching powder, leather processing and in skin polishes. What observable evidence suggests that this reaction has occurred? Very strong gas smell, green liquid. What evidence proves this chemical reaction has occurred? It can dissolve metals, leaves thick gas behind, dark green/gray liquid.
