I had the privilege to work along side Melissa Walker for 2 school years at St. Mary's Catholic School in Sexsmith, AB. I was assigned to the school as part of my duties as a School Resource Officer with the RCMP while stationed in Grande Prairie, AB. I was a School resource officer for 5 years with both the City of Grande Prairie and the County of Grande Prairie. During that time I had direct contact with a number of teachers at the Grade 6 level while teaching the Dare program

Melissa's classes were some of my most enjoyable and productive classes during those 5 years. She had students that were both well behaved and respecfful to those who were visiting the school. The classroom was always very welcoming to those coming from outside of the school to interact Wth her students. She was able to get them to be very engaging in the program and made sure that the students were always prepared for the next class. Her classroom management was excellent and that was evident in the behavior of the students. lt was also evident that her students had respect for her in the way they conducted themselves towards her in both words and actions.

Melissa was also very active in the whole school not just her classroom. I observed her taking a leadership role in the annual Christmas concert at the school which was well attended and very professional. She was very instrumental in getting other teachers interested in a new program that I was attempting to introduce to schools in the area. The EPIC program was geared towards 7 and 8th graders focusing on Cyber-Bullying, Drug Awareness and lnternet safety. She made it happen in the school by speaking with Administration and teachers in the school. She takes an interest in all the students within the school not just a small segment.
Melissa modeled compassion, flexibility, respect, tolerance and professionalism to her students through her teaching and life, She is a great example of what teaching is all about. lt is about developing young men and women into positive and productive citizens. She goes above and beyond teaching the three "R's", she teaches the students about life.
I highly recommend Melissa as a teacher and a person to any organization. She will not only have a positive influence on her classroom but the whole school.
