Guided Project 2-2
In this project, you create a checklist for employees at Placer Hills Real Estate to track the tasks they need to complete
when a house enters escrow. You create a bulleted list, modify a bullet in a list, set and modify tab stops, apply and
modify styles, and insert document properties in the footer.

1. Open the SellerEscrowChecklist-02 start file.
NOTE: If the document opens in Protected View, click the Enable Editing button in the Message Bar at
the top of the document so you can modify it.
2. The file will be renamed automatically to include your name. Change the file name if directed to do
so by your instructor, and save it.
3. Change margins, vertical alignment, line spacing, and font and font size, and delete blank lines.
a. Click the Margins button [Page Layout tab, Page Setup group].
b. Select Normal from the drop-down list.
c. Click the Page Setup launcher to open the Page Setup dialog box.
d. Click the Layout tab.
e. In the Page area, change Vertical alignment to Center.
f. Click OK to close the Page Setup dialog box.
g. Press Ctrl+A to select the entire document.
h. Change the font to Calibri.
i. Change the font size to 12 pt.
j. Change the line spacing to 2.0 (Double).
k. Turn on Show/Hide and delete all of the blank lines between the lines of text.
4. Add text to the document.
a. Click after Seller in the second line of the document and press Tab once.
b. Type Property Address.
c. Click after Escrow Company and press Tab once.
d. Type Escrow #.
e. Click after Tasks to be Completed and press Tab once.
f. Type Date Completed.
5. Set tab stops using the ruler to line up information.
a. Select the second and third lines of text (beginning with Seller).
b. Ensure that the Left Tab is selected in the tab selector area to the left of the horizontal ruler.

c. Click the ruler at 3.5 ". If you
click the wrong location on
the ruler, drag the tab stop to
the correct location
(Figure 2-100).
d. Select the fourth line of text
(beginning with Tasks).
e. Click to the tab selector to
change to a center tab stop (Figure 2-101).
f. Click the ruler at 5.5".
6. Set tab stops and add leaders to create lines for users to
fill in information.
a. Select the second and third lines of text (beginning with Seller).
b. Click the Paragraph launcher. The Paragraph dialog box opens.
c. Click the Tabs button. The Tabs dialog box opens.
d. In the Tab stop position area, type 3.
e. Click the Right radio button in the Alignment area.
f. Click the 4 (solid underline) radio button in the Leader area.
g. Click the Set button to set this tab stop.
h. In the Tab stop position area, type 6.5.
i. Click the Right radio button in the Alignment area.
j. Click the 4 (solid underline) radio button in the Leader area.
k. Click the Set button to set this tab stop.
l. Click OK to close the Tabs dialog box.
7. Use tab stops to align text.
a. Place the insertion point before Property Address and press Tab once.
b. Click after Property Address and press Tab once.
c. Place the insertion point before Escrow # and press Tab once.
d. Click after Escrow # and press Tab once.
8. Apply styles to selected text and modify a style.
a. Place the insertion point in the first line of text (Seller Escrow Checklist).
b. Select Title style in the Style gallery [Home tab, Styles group].
c. Change the After paragraph spacing to 24 pt. [Page Layout tab, Paragraph group].
d. Click the Center alignment button to center the title.
e. Select Tasks to be Completed.
f. Apply the Book Title style from the Style gallery.
g. Change the font size of the selected text to 14 pt. and apply a Double underline.
h. Right-click the Book Title style in the Style gallery and select Update Book Title to Match Selection.
The Book Title style is updated.
i. Select Date Completed and apply the Book Title style.
9. Create a bulleted list to selected text and apply a
custom bullet.
a. Select the remaining lines of text beginning with Open
Escrow . . ..
b. Click the Bullets drop-down arrow [Home tab,
Paragraph group] and select Define New Bullet. The
Define New Bullet dialog box opens.
c. Click the Symbol button. The Symbol dialog box opens
(Figure 2-102).
d. Click the Font drop-down arrow and select Wingdings.

e. Scroll down the list and select the open square bullet (Character code 113).
f. Click OK to close the Symbol dialog box.
g. Click the Font button in the Define New Bullet dialog box. The Font dialog box opens.
h. Change the Size to 14 pt.
i. Click OK to close the Font dialog box.
j. Click OK to close the Define New Bullet dialog box.
k. With the bulleted list still selected, click the Decrease Indent button to align the bullet at the left
margin.
10. Change the hanging indent and add tab stops.
a. Select the bulleted list.
b. Click the Paragraph launcher to open the Paragraph dialog box.
c. Change the hanging indent to 0.3 ".
d. Click the Tabs button. The Tabs dialog box opens
(Figure 2-103).
e. In the Tab stop position area, type 4.5.
f. Click the Left radio button in the Alignment area.
g. Click the 1 None radio button in the Leader area.
h. Click the Set button to set this tab stop.
i. In the Tab stop position area, type 6.5.
j. Click the Right radio button in the Alignment area.
k. Click the 4 (solid underline) radio button in the
Leader area.
l. Click the Set button to set this tab stop.
m. Click OK to close the Tabs dialog box.
n. Place the insertion point after Open Escrow with
Escrow Company and press Tab two times. A solid
underline is inserted between 4.5" and 6.5".
o. Repeat the step above (n.) on the remaining lines in the
bulleted list.
11. Add text to the document.
a. Press Enter after the last line of text in the document.
b. Click the Bullets button [Home tab, Paragraph group] to turn off the bullet on this line.
c. Type Fax/Email Clear Pest Report and press Enter.
d. Type Title and press Enter.
e. Type Lender and press Enter.
f. Type Buyers Agent.
12. Apply a style to selected text and use the Format Painter.
a. Select Fax/Email Clear Pest Report and apply the Subtle Reference style.
b. Click one of the bulleted items.
c. Click the Format Painter button [Home tab, Clipboard group] to copy the formatting of this
bulleted item.
d. Select the last three lines of text (beginning with Title . . .). The Format Painter copies the bullet
formatting and tab settings to these lines of text.
e. Press Tab two times after each of these last three lines to insert the tab stops and leaders.
13. Insert a document property field, the date, and a border in the footer of the document.
a. Click the Footer button [Insert tab, Header & Footer group].
b. Select Edit Footer from the drop-down list. The footer opens.
c. Click the Quick Parts button [Header & Footer Tools Design tab, Insert group].
d. Click Document Property and select Company. The Company document property field is
inserted.

e. Press the right arrow key once to deselect the Company field.
f. Press Tab two times, type Last Updated:, and space once. The text aligns at the right side of the
footer.
g. Click the Date & Time button [Header & Footer Tools Design tab, Insert group]. The Date and Time
dialog box opens.
h. Select the third option (month, day, year) and click the Update automatically check box.
i. Click OK to close the dialog box.
j. Select all of the text in the footer and change the font to Calibri and the font size to 10 pt.
k. Click the Borders drop-down arrow [Home tab, Paragraph group] and select Top Border.
l. Click the Close Header and Footer button [Header & Footer Tools Design tab, Close group].
14. Save and close the document (Figure 2-104).
15. Upload and save your project file.
16. Submit project for grading.
