Hello!
10:03:30:07
10:03:32:01
10:03:36:20
10:03:36:08
10:03:40:04
Narrator Supernanny needs to observe Debbie and her daughters in a slice of typical family life before she can tackle the problems.
10:03:47:23
10:03:51:00
10:03:58:02
10:03:59:04
Jo Frost Is that the kind of behaviour that you normally get from Bethany?
10:04:01:19
Debbie Senior Yes. But theres nothing you can do to reprimand her. Shout, she will not act on anything. Any form of punishment. No!
10:04:19:17
10:04:28:10
10:04:30:24

Its like a big game at the moment isnt it, for the girls? Theyre just getting mums attention by misbehaving and theyre running mum ragged.
10:05:00:01
Narrator With the girls wrecking havoc, Debbie resorts to her only method of discipline. Granddad.
10:05:06:21
Debbie Senior Dad! Shes just thrown a watering can at Jo and shes throwing dirt and [10:05:11:12 INAUDIBLE - TALKING OVER EACH OTHER]
10:05:12:11
Jo Frost Pleased to met you, Joe. The dad, yes, is that correct?
10:05:16:08
Debbie Senior Yes. Its Bethany, shes just took a handful of dirt and thrown it over the fence and it has hit the corner of our house.
10:05:20:20
10:05:23:13
10:05:26:09
Jo Frost Every time mum calls her dad in to help with the situation, all she does is undermine herself in front of the children and that really doesnt help the situation.
10:05:37:15
10:05:41:12
10:05:44:15
Bethany Because [10:05:45:23 INAUDIBLE] my sisters are annoying me when Im trying to do a picture for someone and they come along, they scribble on it and all that, and then it gets hard.
10:05:56:09
Granddad It is hard but youve got to realise that you are their, you are their eldest little girl, youre
10:06:02:10
10:06:03:15

I love the relationship that you see here with Bethany and her Pops because theyre able to talk and communicate with one another and I feel that Bethany feels that shes being heard and its something that I would to see developed with her mother.
10:06:32:16
Jo Frost So you have the children in and out throughout the day really? When theyre at school and you have them back for dinners, and then afterwards at 4.30?
10:06:41:14
10:06:43:04
Jo Frost Okay.

10:06:48:23
10:06:49:21
Nan Were not quite in our thirties are we? You know. And you think
11
Well, you know, were not old but on the other hand sometimes you feel old and they make you feel really old because
10:07:00:19
10:07:01:11
Nan Yes, tired, and youre tired and you think Oh please let me just sit down and read the paper.
10:07:09:00
Narrator At the shops Supernanny sees how chaotic it is when Debbie ventures out with the girls on her own.
10:07:19:15
Debbie Senior You are on the road! Anywhere its an open space this is
10:07:27:17
Jo Frost Yes. And you cant split yourself in three! I mean what are you going to do now? I mean shes, look, shes right by that bus. I suggest you go and get her and I stay by the pram because right now shes right by that van.
10:07:38:12

10:08:12:20
10:08:16:23
Jo Frost Ive just heard mum call one of the girls an idiot, for a child to grow up hearing their mother demean them using them words, is just, will really lower their self-confidence and their self-esteem.
10:08:32:03
Narrator After dinner Debbie tries to put the girls to bed. As usual, theyre not having any of it.
13
10:08:44:12
Debbie Senior Im not messing. I am tired and Ive had enough. Every night its the same. Lie down! Am I a parrot?

10:09:08:19
Debbie Senior No! Get into bed. Excuse me, what right have you got to smack her like that? Lie down properly please. Lie down!
10:09:23:04
Jo Frost Mum should be able to read the kids a story, tuck them into bed and have some time to herself. Instead shes being held hostage in that bedroom.
10:09:32:04
10:09:36:09
Debbie Senior Get into bed. All Im asking is for you to go sleep!

PART TWO
10:11:04:24
Narrator Supernanny has spent a day analysing single mum, Debbie Senior and her three girls. Shes seen how little respect the girls have for their mum and how Debbie relies on her own parents to keep them under control.
10:11:18:01
Debbie Senior Dad, can you come round? Theyre going absolutely berserk!
10:11:23:20
10:11:27:11
10:11:31:08
10:11:31:16
10:11:34:23
17
10:11:36:07
Jo Frost But, Debbie the childrens behaviour. The way they treat one another with no respect at all.
10:11:43:06
10:11:44:07
Jo Frost And theyre running wild, thinking that they can behave just the way they want to and they are getting away with it and that is a problem. Your communication skills with the children is what
teaches them how to communicate back. And theyre learning nothing from you when you demand, when you shout and yell at them. You shout at the children, they shout back at you.
Debbie, your children know that you dont like them right now, and you know why they know that you dont like them right now? By the way that you speak to them. With the way that you
interact with them, which is, you dont. All they want to do is be loved by you. All they want to do is spend time with you.
10:12:26:18
10:12:27:22
Jo Frost But the messages that youre giving to them is that you dont.
10:12:32:04
18
10:12:34:23
Jo Frost They need you to interact with them on more than one level.
10:12:39:03
10:12:43:13
10:12:45:10
10:12:47:03
Jo Frost Debbie, the only people they have right now, is you and their grandparents. And the reason why they have their grandparents so much, is because of the dependency that you have with them. Now, I think its wonderful that you have your family living right next door to you. But Debbie your mum and dad, your mum and dad are not going to be around forever.
10:13:16:13
10:13:17:12
Jo Frost And every time you call Dad! you undermine yourself and become one of the, one of the kids. But these issues, Debbie, they can be changed. They can be changed and they can be addressed. But it takes strength and it takes determination and an understanding of being able to bridge the gap between you
19
and your children. Because once you understand what you can do yourself, to be able to better yourself as a parent, then your children will benefit from that. And the impact will be massive.
10:13:53:13
10:13:56:05
10:13:59:10
10:14:04:02
Narrator Supernanny is determined to turn Debbies dream into reality. So she rolls up her sleeves and lays down some rules for the house.
10:14:12:22
Jo Frost No spitting, okay, because that is behaviour we do not do any more. Dont do that. Dont worry about it.
10:14:24:04
Narrator Next stop, discipline. Here, there are three badly behaved kids, so Supernannys famous naughty step wont work. Instead
theyll each get a naughty corner, this way Debbie can discipline all three girls at once.
10:14:39:05
Jo Frost I want you to give them a warning, that is the first stage of the
20
discipline, and that warning will be to come down to their level, give them eye contact and in a very firm voice, and Debbie, Im going to use you as an example, come down as if youre one of the children, okay? And its Do not do that.
10:15:00:23
Narrator The final stage of Supernannys discipline system is the Reward Chart. Every time a girl is naughty, mum will remove a petal from her flower, and if shes good, a petal will be added. If one of the girls gets ten petals, shell get a treat.
10:15:16:20
Jo Frost Your special Art book, okay, to draw a picture in and then, this box to put your creative stickers on top! But if youre naughty, if your behaviour is naughty and you have to go on the naughty corner, then mummy will take one of your petals off and put it back into your pot.
10:15:42:16
Narrator Almost immediately the discipline system is put to the test. Bethany is given a warning for picking on Ruth, but just moments later shes pushed her to the ground.
10:15:54:00
Debbie Senior What you did wrong was push her over like that [10:15:56:04 INAUDIBLE - BETHANY TALKING OVER DEBBIE] Youre going in the naughty corner. I cant tell you, oh, but you will.
10:16:04:01
21
10:16:09:02
10:16:09:21
Debbie Senior Youve been put here because of the way you knocked Ruth over.
10:16:14:19
10:16:19:10
Narrator Bethany has to stay on the naughty corner for five minutes, a minute per year of her age, but shes got other ideas!
10:16:27:05
Jo Frost If the child gets off from the naughty corner, then you must be consistent and place the child back on the naughty corner, so that they recognise that you will do the same thing every time they get off of the corner, hence the child learns they might as well not get off.
10:17:05:20
10:17:08:07
Jo Frost What do you mean Would you like to sit back on it? She was on there and thats where she should be, on there. Back onto that corner.
22
10:17:17:08
10:17:19:15
10:17:21:02
10:17:24:18
Bethany why you put her on the naughty corner, want an apology. Hugs and kisses, let it go.
10:17:35:04
10:17:36:13
Jo Frost You cant talk to her forehead. Look at me please Bethany, that is what, exactly what I want you to say.
10:17:39:19
10:17:40:00
10:17:42:21
Debbie Senior The apology is for the way you pushed Ruth over.
23
10:17:46:11
10:17:47:01
10:17:49:11
Jo Frost Right okay, I want kisses, hugs and kisses for Ruth please mummy, she needs to apologise to Ruth and give her a hug and a kiss.
10:17:55:17
10:17:56:10
10:17:58:22
10:18:00:19
10:18:06:19
Narrator Having no fence in her back garden means its all too easy for Debbie to run to her parents every time theres a problem. Supernanny has a simple solution. Put up a new one!
10:18:18:08
Granddad
24
This is Poppa and Nannys new fence and a new gate and when that gate is shut, what does it mean?
10:18:28:09
10:18:28:15
10:18:30:08

10:18:36:17
10:18:38:17
25
10:18:40:02
10:18:42:04
Narrator The gate might stop the girls running away from mum at home, but it wont help when Debbies out and about with them. Supernanny wants to teach Debbie a technique for keeping the girls close to her and out of danger.
10:18:54:16
Jo Frost Were walking straight ahead and then turning to get to the play area. Well I was.
10:19:03:20
Jo Frost Wait a minute. What I want you to do is to be able, allow the girls to have the sense of freedom to run but when you say Stop it means they have to wait there.
10:19:18:05
10:19:18:12
Jo Frost If they continue to run it means that they have to come back and hold on to that pram. Okay. Good girls. This behaviour is
wonderful because youre staying by mummy, okay, and youre not running off too fast so I can see you and now I trust you to do that.
10:19:36:05
26
10:19:38:16
Jo Frost Okay.
10:19:40:01
10:19:42:02
10:19:43:05
10:19:44:23
10:19:48:24
Narrator Five year old Bethany catches on a little quicker than three year old Ruth.
10:19:53:07
10:19:58:11
Narrator Because shes refused to stop Ruth now has to hold on to the buggy.
10:20:02:20

10:20:12:10
10:20:15:21
10:20:17:11
10:20:20:01
Jo Frost Well done. Thats it, now you wait for mummy.
10:20:21:19
10:20:23:07
Narrator But on the home straight Bethany has a rush of blood and makes a break for it right across a busy road.
10:20:30:23
Debbie Senior How dare you run across the road! Hold there. Ruth out of that garden.
10:20:38:14
10:20:43:11
10:20:48:03
Jo Frost
28
Dont even argue with that, you know how long, youre in charge of that. That wasnt easy
10:20:53:00
10:20:53:11
Jo Frost But you did well and you were persistent with it and, and I just felt like you had a little bit of confidence there in the Park!
10:20:59:10
10:21:01:13
10:21:04:10
Debbie Senior Wheres your special cup? Bethany. The special cup.. do you know why I put you in the naughty corner?

Narrator
30
Even though she said sorry Bethany still has to lose a petal from the reward chart.
10:21:55:21
10:22:06:12
Narrator Supernannys next target is bed time. She wants to stop Debbie spending a gruelling two hours in Bethany and Ruths room trying to get them to sleep. First, Debbie must kiss them goodnight and leave the room.
10:22:26:24
Narrator When Ruth gets up Supernanny shows Debbie how to put her back.
10:22:32:07
10:22:33:12
Debbie Senior Okay. Bed time darling, get back into bed.

10:23:06:00
10:23:21:17
Narrator It doesnt take long before shes out of bed again. This time Debbie mustnt say anything at all, but Ruth is used to misbehaving in order to get a reaction. This is the stage where the gloves come off.
10:23:45:17
Narrator Over the next hour and a half Ruth gets out of bed a record 47 times!
10:24:12:21
10:24:18:24
Jo Frost Well, youve done extremely well tonight Debbie. Youve stayed calm, you just went through the steps of the technique, and as a result all three of them are sleeping. Absolutely fantastic! You have put a hundred percent in today and Im very, very proud of
32
you.
10:24:39:08
Narrator Over the next few days Debbie begins to make some progress.
10:24:42:14
10:24:45:15
Narrator But how will she cope when Supernanny leaves her to try out the techniques on her own?

35
10:26:24:21
Jo Frost Lets talk about your relationship with the girls and tell me what you think of your relationship with each.
10:26:33:11
Debbie Senior I dont interact with them very much because they actually put you off because they are so naughty. You spend so much time telling them Dont do this, dont do that, that the time has gone for the interactive and the play which is quite sad really.
10:26:52:08
Jo Frost What we need to develop with you here is how to bring you closer to your daughters and were going to work on that today with all of the girls. Feel confident about giving that a go?
10:27:04:24
10:27:05:19
Jo Frost Yes?
10:27:07:00
Narrator Supernannys convinced Debbies been struggling to control the girls because they rarely get any positive attention from her. Its vital that she starts spending some one on one time with each of them.
10:27:19:04
Jo Frost Im going to hand this over to mummy because mummys got something very, very special for the pair of you to do! Okay,

PART FOUR
10:40:05:21
Narrator Supernanny Jo Frost has been watching Debbie Senior do her best to implement her parenting techniques. But three girls
giving her the run around has pushed Debbie right to the edge. Supernannys back to show Debbie where shes going wrong.
10:40:21:09
10:40:23:20
10:40:24:11
Jo Frost Ive seen some good stuff thats been happening here in the house, but Ive also seen stuff that definitely needs tweaking, so lets take a look at that footage okay?
10:40:34:16
Narrator She starts off by looking at Debbie and the girls out and about.
10:40:38:12
52
10:40:43:00
10:40:44:17
Debbie Senior but youve got to hold on to the pushchair first okay? Now if you do that then mummy can say You can walk on ahead a little bit.
10:40:52:10
Jo Frost Okay, I like that. You see the way your voice went up, it was matter of fact, youre explaining so that you could let off those reins, okay, and allow them that freedom.
10:41:04:23
10:41:08:09
10:41:11:01
10:41:14:10
10:41:15:18
Debbie Senior I cant remember what it was now! Obviously I wanted to get in for something and I couldnt get in.
10:41:22:15
Debbie Senior
53
No, I think the rule was that they werent allowed to just run round when they wanted.
10:41:26:13
Granddad No, they were not allowed to come round when the door was locked, and the gate is locked.
10:41:32:05
10:41:33:06
10:41:33:24
Jo Frost Alright?
10:41:34:13
10:41:35:07
10:41:38:01
10:41:38:16
Jo Frost a break. And you Debbie need to take responsibility of your three girls, full stop.
10:41:46:17
Debbie Senior
54
Why are you being such an idiot? You know I am next door so why keep getting your backsides out of bed? Get into bed! Now!
10:42:00:23
Jo Frost I have never seen you behave in a manner so hostile and aggressive in getting your daughters into bed. With you
behaving in that way its not making it any better, all its doing is making it worse.
10:42:20:12
10:42:21:12
Jo Frost And yet, you know what these children do? Is come back for more because its the only way that theyre getting your attention. What I would like to see is you doing more things with the girls, interacting with the girls, giving them your time, enjoying it.
10:42:41:08
Narrator Supernannys worried that Debbies forgotten how to have fun with the girls. She believes a family that stops having fun is a family in trouble.
10:42:50:22
Jo Frost Big giggles and laughs today okay? So, were going to do some dressing up, were going to do some face paints, were going to put some Mickey Mouse ears on, were going to get them dressing up as fairies.
10:42:58:21
Jo Frost
55
Look at you! Theyre inside, come on, lets go and get dressed!
10:43:08:02
10:43:09:20
Bethany Yes!
10:43:10:21
10:43:13:16

10:43:31:17

10:43:36:05
Jo Frost Try and hit the donkey once to see if you can split it open and get all the treasures!
10:43:48:19
Debbie Senior Its not come out yet! I wonder if mummy will be able to get the treasure out?
10:43:52:23
Bethany
56
Walk forward mummy, walk forward! Turn this way, here! Now whack!
10:44:20:18
Jo Frost Feels a bit awkward for mum in the beginning, interacting with the girls and having this quality time, but shes let her hair down, shes enjoying herself and Im impressed with the effort that shes made.
10:44:34:17
Debbie Senior Today I actually felt I was giving part of myself to them and they, I think, I noticed the difference. It wasnt like Oh, shes just doing it, shes actually doing it because she wants to do it and shes enjoying it. And I did enjoy it and it was good quality time.
10:44:54:13
Narrator Supernanny wants to make sure that Debbie keeps up the good work. A family Diary should improve the communication between Debbie and her daughters.
10:45:03:18
Jo Frost Every day mums going to sit down with you and shes going to say Bethany, what did you do today that you really, really liked? And youre going to tell mummy and shes going to write in the book and keep a collection of it.

10:45:28:17
Jo Frost I think whats nice about the diary is that it provokes conversation, so the girls will sit down and actually say to mum what they enjoyed about the day and hence that will motivate mum to want to do it more. And I think the more that can go in that book the better for Debbie.
10:45:43:18
Jo Frost And what did you do today that you really enjoyed?
