Taught by Hasan as-Sumalee @ Troid aka Masjid al-Furquaan
Class 2 – October 2, 2009/13 Shawwal 1430
Fridays after Maghrib on Pal Talk in
ReligionSpiritualityTroid.org

Recap
♦ 3rd matter is calling to knowledge (3lm)
♦ 3lm or Allah, Deen & Rasool, Action upon it, Calling to it
♦ All three must be upon patience

Class 2
♦ When person has 3lm it is upon them to call to the 3lm
that Allah has blessed them with
♦ Hadith: by Allah, if a single man is guided aright
through thee, it is better for thee than red camels."
(Bukhari & Muslim)
o Part of instructions given to ‘Ali on his mission to
Khaibar
♦ Rewards of calling to Allah are greater than any worldly
possessions

Qualities of the Caller to Allah

1) An aspiration to guide the people
♦ Aspiration to convey Allah’s deen
♦ Must have desire to assist the people so they may leave
darkness they are in and into the light of Islam
2) Gentleness
♦ Should be gentle and kind
♦ Hadith: Gentleness is not present except that
it beautifies something and it is not absent
except that it disfigures it. (reported on the
authority of A’aisha and reported in musnad of
Imaam Ahmad and Al-Albanee graded it as
authentic)
3) Wisdom
♦ Ibn ul-Qayyim said: Wisdom is to do an action in the
right way at the right time.
♦ Someone may say the right thing at the wrong time
♦ Qur’aan: Invite mankind (O Muhammad) to the
Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom (i.e.
with the Divine Inspiration and the Sunnah
(Hikmah)) and fair preaching, and argue with
them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord
knows best who has gone astray from His Path,
and He is the Best Aware of those who are
guided. (16:125)
4) Good Admonition
♦ Tarheeb (encouragement) wat-Targheeb (scolding)
♦ Encouragement lifts the spirits
♦ Speak of the great rewards that come with the
obedience of Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala
♦ Scolding with threats of Allah’s severe punishments for
disobedience
♦ Each should be applied in the appropriate
circumstances
♦ If one sees an individual(s) openly disobeying Allah
using tarheeb and speaking only of Allah’s Forgiveness
and Pardoning is not appropriate
♦ Saying that Allah is Forgiving then admonishing to
repent from the action and reminding that Allah is
severe in punishment is more fitting.1
5) Arguing in the best way
♦ Argue to remove doubts and argue in the best way
enabling truth to reach them
6) Understanding
♦ Understanding of halaal (lawful) wal haraam (and
unlawful) with proofs
7) Clarifying the Truth
♦ Encouraging people to halaal and discouraging from
haraam with proof
1
On the authority of Abu Hurairah that he said: I heard the messenger of Allah say: Had a
disbeliever known all of the Mercy which is in the Hands of Allah, he would not lose hope of
entering Paradise, and had a believer known of all the punishment which is present with Allah, he
would not consider himself safe from the Hell-Fire. (Sahih al-Bukhari)
8) Do not be sorrowful if people don’t accept
♦ Qur’aan: Is he, then, to whom the evil of his
deeds made fair-seeming, so that he considers it
as good (equal to one who is rightly guided)?
Verily, Allah sends astray whom He wills, and
guides whom He wills. So destroy not yourself (O
Muhammad) in sorrow for them. Truly, Allah is
the All Knower of what they do! (35:8)
9) Readiness to counter and refute people of doubts and
innovation
♦ Dhaat Anwaat was a tree that the polytheists used to
hang their swords on for “good luck” and victory in
battle
♦ A group of new reverts said: O Messenger of Allah, give
us a Dhaat Anwaat just like theirs (the polytheists)
♦ Hadith: Allahu Akbar! By the One in Whose Hand
is my soul, verily these are the ways of the
earlier nations. You have said the same as the
Children of Israel said to Musa: “Make for us a
god just as the have god. He (Moosaa) said to
them: ‘Indeed you are an ignorant people’.”
(7:138)
♦ This hadith shows the permissibility of saying Allahu
Akbar to show surprise
♦ He didn’t just say this is haraam
♦ He gave proof of it being an act of the pagans
♦ He quoted the Qur’aan

♦ The Salaf us-Salih were similar in the way they handled such
matters
♦ The belief of the Qadariyyah appeared in Basra (deny the
divine decree)
♦ A delegation of Tabi’een (second generation) went to
Ibn ‘Umar (sahaba) to voice their concerns
♦ We see that these tabi’een turned back to a sahaba and
informed him of the situation
♦ Tabi’een: Ya Abaa Abdur-Rahman! A people have
appeared amongst us claiming that there is no pre-
decree and that nothing is decreed.
Ibn ‘Umar: Inform them that I have nothing to do
with them and they have nothing to do with me. By
Allaah, if one of them possessed the like of Uhud in
gold and spent it in the path of Allaah, it would not
be accepted from them until they believed in the
Pre-decree, the good of it and the bad of it.
(Reported by Muslim)
♦ Ibn ‘Umar was drawing upon the hadith of Jibreel when he
came to teach the people their religion as it pertained to
the six articles of faith – divine decree being mentioned
therein
♦ Respond to bida’h with sunnah
o Do not respond with rhetoric and fanciful speech
o Sunnah will always annihilate bida’h

4th Matter – Patiently Persevering

♦ Patiently persevering upon this path and all three
fundamentals
♦ Patience & steadfastness upon religion of Allah
♦ If the sunnah is strong then the harms upon this path are
limited
♦ When the sunnah is weak then the harms encountered
upon this path will be greater
♦ Patience upon the way of the Salaf us-Salih and those that
followed them
♦ Those who experience the most harm are the Prophet’s,
then their followers who resemble them the most and
then those that resemble him the most
♦ Those who call to Allah upon sure 3lm
♦ Those who perfect tawheed will enter into Paradise
without reckoning (70,000 individuals see Kitab at-
Tawheed of Ibn Abdul-Wahhab)
♦ The caller must not be fooled by large numbers and not
get discouraged by small numbers
♦ Caller must be patient with harms and continue calling –
why?
♦ Our best example are the Prophet’s and Messengers
o Muhammad salla allahu alayhi wa sallam was
harassed
o His tooth was broken in the battle of Uhud
o And remember he was the best of all mankind
♦ Many who give da’wah learn, then act but are not patient
with the harms encountered upon the path
♦ Some want good and good for the people but they
encounter something they don’t like from the people so
they cease teaching the people
♦ If they are not successful then they compromise and
water down the fundamentals
o Thus turning a blind eye to errors and bida’h even in
situations where people fall into shirk
♦ If mistaken then by all means the individual should return
to the truth
♦ If you are sure you are upon the haqq (truth) be patient
and await reward from Allah
