Imbalances between work and life are common reasons for an early burnout of employees. when your best friend (and co-worker) is laid-off suddenly; or your boss assigns you more work when youre already overloaded. These are the times when the burnout stage sets in, says Sheena Agarwaal, principal consultant, Urbanista Image Consulting LLP. What can organisations do to prevent employees from burning-out too early? Organisations with fewer cases of burnout are those where everybody is treated with respect and care; where managers believe in inspiring their teams to deliver better through coaching and mentoring and not through carrot and stick; where there is a sharing of knowledge for enhancing the competencies and empowering them to take decisions, suggests Sanjeev Dixit, chief people officer, Allied Blenders and Distillers. The organisation should provide an environment, which supports the individuals career aspirations while driving the organisations growth. The organisation could achieve more if it could build on the individuals strengths rather than harp on their areas of improvement, shares Aarthi Rajaraman, director HR, Williams Lea India. There is much that can be done at an individual level as well.
