2. Memory Management
Introduction Trained and untrained memory Habit is memory Be interested Link method of memory Observation The Singing Technique
Introduction
A man's real possession is his memory. In nothing else is he rich, In nothing else is he poor. Alexander Smith
It is a well known fact that whatever you see, or whatever you hear always remain in your mind. Its just that the link which can retrieve this information is lost. That means, there is nothing like a bad memory, its just trained or untrained memory (we will cover this in detail soon). So, for all those people who think, they have bad memory, please take that thought out of your mind, because all humans beings are born with equally good memory (exceptions are some people with medical problems). The human brain has amazingly humongous capacity to memorize things and here we will learn how to utilize this unexplored and untouched power. We promise you, by the time you finish this chapter you would be proud to say that you have a good memory.
[11]
kind of information easily like, names, telephone numbers, a long shopping list or may be your study chapters if you are a student.
Habit is memory
"All knowledge is but remembrance" Plato Lets first start by understanding what HABIT is? And how is it related with memory? Right now you are able to read this book, because you know how to read and understand English language. And you know it because you recognize and understand those entire 26 alphabets. You can convert these alphabets into a language because you remember the sounds of each of them. So, its your memory which is helping you read this book right now. You dont realize it, because your memory has become your habit, and it works like an automatic engine now. In other words, if you lose your memory, you will have to start learning each and everything right from scratch, like a new born baby. You would have to relearn things like, how to change clothes, how to shave, how to apply makeup or how to drive a car. So, you can imagine how much is already stored in your memory.
Be interested
The true art of memory is the art of attention. Samuel Johnson First of all I would like to state that you have already taken an important step towards developing a better memory by starting this course, this shows that you have interest & desire in improving your memory and you already have started working towards it. Now the only thing you need to work on is to develop trust in your own existing memory power. When you already know something never look back for the confirmation (unless and until its something very important and is going to cost you big amount of money). In short DO NOT CONFIRM because the moment you confirm something you already know, you send a hidden signal to your mind that you dont have a good memory, which is the biggest enemy for your memory improvement. Learn to trust yourself & your memory, you will surely make some mistakes in the first few days, but after a week of regular practice, you will start noticing tremendous improvements in your retention power. Always send positive signals to your mind and say YOU KNOW IT. Its a magical trick and the most important change you need to implement in your everyday life. The best part of this trick is that it doesnt cost you any additional effort; by the time, it will become your habit.
[12]
Alexander Smith
We want to show you, that you can immediately start to remember as you've never remembered before. We don't believe that anyone with an untrained memory can possibly remember twenty unassociated items, in a sequence, after hearing or seeing them only once. Even if you dont believe, you will be able to accomplish it just by reading this chapter for a while. List of items to remember: Telephone Pin Table Cigarette Pencil Headphones Flower Ice cream Toothpaste Shaving cream Car Briefcase Newspaper Currency notes Ship Tie (the one which u wear with a shirt) Coffee Bed Fish Fan If you see the above list carefully, you will find that all these words are very common and we use in our everyday life. Before going into actual memorizing, we must explain that your trained memory will be based almost entirely on mental pictures or images. These mental pictures will be easily recalled if they are made as ridiculous as you can possibly make them. You will be able to memorize these twenty items in sequence in a surprisingly short time. There is a saying that method is the mother of memory. That means if you know the method of storing the information in your brain, there is nothing in this world practically which you cannot remember. So, you will learn now, what we call the Linking method of memory. I've told you that your trained memory will consist mostly of ridiculous mental images, so let's start by making ridiculous mental images of the above twenty items. We are going to help you with the first few words and then you will continue on your own. Don't be worried, it is a child's play; as a matter of fact it is almost like a game. The first thing you have to do is to get a picture of the first item, "telephone" in your mind. You all know what a telephone isso just "see" it in your mind's eye. We have already explained you that in order to remember anything, it must be associated in some way to something you already know or remember. The thing that you already know is the item, "telephone". Now the next item you want to remember is, "pin" Now, here is your first and most important step towards your trained memory. You must now associate or link telephone to/with pin. The association must be as ridiculous as possible. For example, you might imagine that while you are talking on telephone there is a pin which comes out from the speaker phone and pokes into your ear. See that you feel pain while talking on the
[13]
phone due to the poking pin or as another example you may imagine that to dial a number on your telephone set you use a pin instead of your fingers. Now I am sure that whenever you think of telephone it will remind you of the pin. Now that you have associated telephone with a pin, lets concentrate on you next item which is table. So, now you have to establish a relationship between a pin and a table. Imagine that table is standing on a pin instead of four legs; you can imagine anything you want, but make sure you try to make it as funny as possible, because the funny thoughts are easy to retrieve. Now, lets continue with the forth item cigarette. Imagine that the table is smoking a cigarette or may be the table is standing on four cigarettes instead of legs. The fifth item is pencil, imagine that you are smoking a pencil instead of a cigarette. Make sure that you choose a funny association, because if you choose something which is too logical your brain would not be able to remember it easily. Mark my words for that! Now that we are sure you know the technique yourself, we will continue with you for the one last word which is headphones. Imagine that you have a gigantic & alive pencil (as big as a man) which is enjoying the loud music from the head phones on the head. Remember that its very important to visualize the picture in your minds eye because mind can store images better than the words. Now we want you to continue till the last word in the same way, then put down the book for ten minutes and try to recall all the words in the same sequence. Write them down on a paper and match them with the original list, and give yourself 1 point for each correct sequence. Well, we are sure you will score full marks, but dont worry even if you dont. Keep practicing and you will master this technique sooner than you think. The good thing about this technique is that after practicing it for a few weeks, it will turn into a habit and you dont have to put additional efforts to remember similar lists, everything will become automatic.
[14]
[15]
Observation
Nothing exists until or unless it is observed. William S. Burroughs It would be right to say, nothing exist until you observe it. If you go to a new place and you dont observe anything, you would never be able to recall what you saw there. That means the observation and memory goes hand in hand, to memorize anything, first you need to observe it and then memorize it. The observation is always the first step and then comes retaining. If you want, we can start right away! To help you improve your observation skills through the following Drills. Drill 1: Probably, at the moment you are sitting in your personal room and reading this book and you must be pretty familiar with the room. So take out a pen and a paper, start writing whatever you think is there in the room without looking at them. It could be a table, chair, ashtray, pen, pencil, computer or whatever you can think of. Now look at the room and match the list, try to observe new things, which you probably have seen countless times, but never noticed earlier. Go out of the room and start writing new things again below the same list, I am sure your list must be much longer this time. Keep repeating this exercise until u cover each and everything from your room. Drill 2: Try this drill when you are at a new place or anywhere out of your house. Take an example of your office place, your friends place or maybe a railway station. Have a look around you, just a quick look, and then close your eyes. Now try to observe each and everything you see in your mental picture, imagine you are still watching the scene with your minds eye. Start describing the smallest thing you remember, a computer, some people around, color of the clothes they are wearing, some photos on the news board or whatever you can recall but make sure you do not open your eyes until you are exhausted with all the things you can think of. Now open your eyes, look at the scene again, now give some more time at it and close your eyes again. Repeat the same drill. The good thing about this drill is you can practice it whenever you want and wherever you are. The above two drills will stretch your mind to the maximum limit. It works same like our body muscles. We go to gym to exercise and the longer we continue, our stamina improves every time. In the same way, these drills will let us stretch our brain muscles and we will start observing more, more and more By the time, you will realize that your ability to observe things is improving. You would be able to observe things which generally no one observes in one go.

3. Mind Maps
(Its a powerful approach to note taking, also called as Spray Diagrams, Spider Diagrams, Spidograms, Spidergrams and Mind Mapping). Introduction Improving your Mind Maps Key points
Introduction
Mind Mapping is an important technique that improves the way you take notes, remember important information and supports and enhances your creative problem solving in an organized way. By using Mind Maps, you can quickly identify and understand the structure of a subject and the way that pieces of information fit together, as well as recording the raw facts contained in normal notes. Moreover, Mind Maps provide a structure which encourages creative problem solving, and they hold information in a format that your mind will find easy to remember and quick to review. Mind Maps abandon the list format of conventional note taking which is difficult to remember and understand. They do this in favor of a two-dimensional structure. A good Mind Map shows the 'shape' of the subject, the relative importance of individual points and the way in which one fact relates to other. Mind Maps are more compact than conventional notes, often taking up one side of paper. This helps you to make associations easily. If you find out more information after you have drawn the main Mind Map, then you can easily integrate it with little disruption.
Summarizing information Consolidating information from different research sources Thinking through complex problems, and Presenting information that shows the overall structure of your subject Mind Maps are also very quick to review, as it is easy to refresh information in your mind just by glancing at once. Mind Maps can also be effective mnemonics. Remembering the shape and structure of a Mind Map can provide the cues necessary to remember the information within it. They engage much more of the brain in the process of assimilating and connecting facts than conventional notes. They are easy to remember because human brain can easily store and recall the images as compared to texts or audios.
[19]
Image 1
Figure 2
[20]
To make notes on a subject using a Mind Map, draw it in the following way: 1. Write the title of the subject in the center of the page, and draw a circle around it. 2. For the major subject subheadings, draw lines out from this circle. Label these lines with the subheadings. 3. If you have another level of information belonging to the subheadings above, draw these and link them to the subheading lines. 4. Finally, for individual facts or ideas, draw lines out from the appropriate heading line and label them. As you come across new information, link it in to the Mind Map appropriately. A complete Mind Map may have main topic lines radiating in all directions from the center. Sub-topics and facts will branch off these, like branches and twigs from the trunk of a tree. You do not need to worry about the structure produced, as this will evolve of its own accord. Note that the sample Mind Maps are only to help show how they are created. All we are showing is that major headings radiate from the center, with lower level headings and facts branching off from the higher level headings. While drawing Mind Maps by hand is appropriate in most of the cases. Still some good software tools are available online to improve the process by helping to you to produce high quality Concept Maps, which can easily be edited and redrafted for the business and professional work.
Key points:
Mind mapping is an extremely effective method of taking notes. Mind Maps show not only facts, but also the overall structure of a subject and the relative importance of individual parts of it. They help you to associate ideas and make connections that might not otherwise make. If you do any form of research or note taking, try experimenting with Mind Maps. You will find them surprisingly effective!

4. Brainstorming
Introduction Brainstorming and Lateral Thinking Group Brainstorming
Introduction
Brainstorming is a useful and popular tool that you can use to develop highly creative solutions to a problem. It is particularly helpful when you need to break out of stale, established patterns of thinking, so that you can develop new ways of looking at things. This can be when you need to develop new opportunities, where you want to improve the service that you offer, or when existing approaches just aren't giving you the results you want. When used with your team, it helps you bring the experience of all team members into play during problem solving. This increases the richness of solutions explored (meaning that you can find better solutions to the problems you face, and make better decisions.) It can also help you get buy in from team members for the solution chosen - after all, they have helped create that solution.
Group Brainstorming
Group brainstorming can be very effective as it uses the experience and creativity of all members of the group. When individual members reach their limit on an idea, another member's creativity and experience can take the idea to the next stage. Therefore, group brainstorming tends to develop ideas in more depth than individual thinking. How to use Brainstorming:
[23]
Define the problem you want solution for, clearly, and lay out any criteria to be met; Keep the session focused on the problem. Ensure that no one criticizes or evaluates ideas during the session. Criticism introduces an element of risk for group members when putting forward an idea. This stifles creativity and cripples the free running nature of a good brainstorming session; Encourage an enthusiastic, uncritical attitude among members of the group. Try to get everyone to contribute and develop ideas, including the quietest members of the group. Let people have fun brainstorming. Encourage them to come up with as many ideas as possible, from solidly practical ones to wildly impractical ones. Welcome creativity. Ensure that no thought is followed for too long. Encourage people to develop other people's ideas, or to use other ideas to create new ones. Appoint one person to note down ideas that come out of the session. A good way of doing this is to use a flip chart. This should be studied and evaluated after the session.
If possible, participants in the brainstorming process should come from as wide a range of disciplines as possible. This brings a broad range of experience to the session and helps to make it more creative. Brainstorming is a great way of generating radical ideas. During the brainstorming process there is no criticism of ideas, as free rein is given to people's creativity (criticism and judgment cramps creativity). This often makes group brainstorming sessions enjoyable experiences, which are great for bringing team members together. Individual brainstorming is best for generating many ideas, but tends to be less effective at developing them. Group brainstorming tends to develop fewer ideas, but takes each idea further.

Breathing exercise
The way you breathe affects your whole body. Full, deep breathing is a good way to reduce tension & stress. Breathing exercises were adapted by the ancient of yoga. It is a very efficient technique for achieving a deep state of relaxation quickly. Step 1: Breathing from your abdomen, inhale through your nose, slowly count till five onetwothreefourfive as you inhale. Step 2: Pause and hold your breath and count till five. Step 3: Exhale slowly, through your nose or mouth, to a count till five again (or more if it takes you longer). Be sure to exhale fully. When youve exhaled completely, take two breaths in your normal rhythm, and then repeat steps 1 through 3 in the cycle above. Keep up the exercise for at least three to five minutes. Keep your breathing smooth and regular throughout the exercise, without gulping in breaths or breathing out suddenly. Each time you exhale, you mentally repeat, relax or let go or any other relaxing word what feels good for you.
[30]
Meditation
Practice meditation daily, it helps to maintain healthy brain-wave activity. Focus, passion, patience and concentration are necessary for success in almost any aspect of life. Stimulate your psyche with new challenges like studying an unfamiliar subject. Select activities that force you into a meditative "single point of attention." Breathing, relax and be in present, make a habit of it. Listen to a soothing or calming music. Breathe and relax your muscles. Picture a relaxing scene in your mind. Then relax and sit there for the time you want.
[31]
[32]
Connection between hands and mind are called Mudras. There is extraordinary relationship between our mind and hands which we call as Mudras. Mudras are hand positions that activate functions in your mind and body to improve. Mudras can be used to still and calm the mind within minutes. Monks or Yogis in different parts of the world have been using Mudras for hundreds of years now. These techniques are taught to them by ancestors as a part of their training to calm the mind.
Mudras influence the mind through direct stimulation of the brain, it has been demonstrated that alpha waves arise particularly from the brain. Mudras are used to change brain wave patterns to relieve stress, improve health, increase abundance etc.
The Kubera mudra is used for creating wealth and reaching your goals. How to form the Kubera mudra? Tips of thumb, index finger, and middle fingers are joined. Ring finger and index finger are folded into the palm.
The Mahasirs mudra is used to help give relief for head-related afflictions. Headaches, stress, tension, etc
[33]
How to form the Mahasirs mudra? Thumb, index and middle fingers are joined at tips. Ring finger is folded into the palm and tucked into the fleshy part of the thumb. Small finger is extended.
The Bhuddhi mudra helps you get in touch with your innermost feelings. How to form the Bhuddhi mudra? Small finger and thumb tips are touching. Index, middle, and ring fingers are extended.
The Hakini mudra helps in thinking and concentration. How to form the Haknini mudra? Hands and fingers are open and spread apart. Join hands together at the thumbs and fingertips.
[34]
The Gyan mudra represents the starting place or home. It takes you back to your roots, or a simpler time. Clear the mental faculties. How to form the Gyan mudra? Thumb and index fingers touch at tips. Middle, ring, and small finger are relaxed, curved slightly.
[35]
Instead of complaining about life's situations and frustrations, try to laugh about them. If something is so frustrating or depressing it's ridiculous, realize that you could look back on it and laugh. You will achieve the health benefits with laughter.
Stress management
In simplest terms, stress is the opposite of relaxation. Both positive and negative aspects of life can be equally stressful. Stress comes from the external forces in our lives, ups and downs are a part of life, and it becomes easier when we understand where it comes from. It pushes our buttons and provokes extreme emotions. Stress affects our lives in different ways. It makes us feel low and not active. We mostly think of stress coming from the frustrations and low points in life but also high points and achievements can be stressful. Stress has everything to do with, the way you think, the way you work and your self esteem, work pressure and unsolved problems. Analyze what are the problems, where the work pressure is, what your thoughts are, what is necessary and what keeps your mind unnecessary occupied. Recognize de-motivation and negative thoughts and other disturbed thoughts. This will make you feel tired and a reason not to do anything. Example: Instead of telling yourself I have a poor memory change your thought in I Develop my memory more and more or make your own positive statement. Sometimes we are right in what we say to ourselves. Often, however, we are overly harsh and unjust in a way that we would never be with friends or co-workers. This, along with other negative thoughts, can cause intense stress and unhappiness and can severely damage your self-confidence All stress isnt bad. Stress can initiate change, help us focus on the task at hand. When stress builds up, it can result in the opposite and cause us to spin our wheels, keep us away from concentrating, and cause bodily injury. Negative thinking damages your performance by undermining your self-confidence. In many cases, situations do not cause all of the stress that we experience. Sometimes, our reaction to the circumstances creates all the stress. Are you keyed up, stressed, and tired? Or intensely busy and struggling to keep the focus? Stress is an early warning signal from emotions that things are not going so well and need to be changed.
[36]
[37]
Say NO at times
Saying NO, has always been a very difficult talk for most of us. As we do not like to disappoint our friends or family members. But, we never realize that we do injustice to our self whenever we want to say no, but we dont. Saying NO at time isnt bad, we can start by saying I cant or may be later. Procrastination can help you to reduce down your stress levels, but make sure to use it in intelligent way, so that you dont spoil personal relations. Sometimes we blame our self, even when its out of our control and we dont have any reason to feel guilty about the situation. Be more active in finding the why, the real reason beyond the stress factor. Ask for help or delegate some work to others when its a work related problem. Keep a habit or distributing pressure, as you cannot handle all alone.

The more relaxed and drowsy you are the more theta and alpha waves you produce and can be used for mind power such as memory improvement and chance for success.
What is visualization?
Visualization is the languages of the mind; The mind prefers to think in pictures. The better your images, the easier it becomes to see with the mind. Visualization is recalling what something looks like, which you might have experienced earlier. When you recall these pictures it comes from a previous experience which already exists.
[46]
Be creative in your visualization. Visualization can become a powerful tool to reach your targets in life. Together with positive affirmations it will become extra powerful. Example: you see with your eyes, you visualize and imagine with your mind.
What is Imagination?
Imagination is using the creativity of the mind, and determining what something looks like that you havent seen or imagined before. To create something new, imagination is used. There are many ways in which imagination can be used to our benefit, To change our habits, To create more possibilities about our work, life or your relations etc.
The human mind is a miraculous evolutionary development. The invisible power of our mind which possess much greater mind potential than we can ever imagine. Perhaps the most complex structure ever to exist. Most people use just 10 % of less of their mind power; the other 90% is waiting for discovery. We can unlock this hidden power of the mind through meditation and active dynamic mental exercises reaching deeper mind levels like alpha and theta brain wave, being alert and awake. The Alpha wave frequency brings us naturally in contact with the invisible power of the subconscious mind, which results in insight and answers in subtle manners; it can come in the form of thoughts or pictures to our conscious mind, which results in clarity about our self. We develop natural creativity to understand ourselves, higher awareness, healthy thoughts, intuitive knowing and taking responsibility for our own actions and interactions. Its a creative process, a play field and interaction between the conscious and subconscious mind.
Jungian psychology focuses on establishing and fostering the relationship between conscious and unconscious processes. He believed in Effective Sensory Projection (ESP), telepathy, telekinesis, clairvoyance, astrology, spiritualism, Jung contributed two new ones: synchronicity and the collective unconscious. Even if there were a synchronicity between the mind and the world such that certain coincidences resonate with transcendental truth, there would still be the problem of figuring out those truths. What guide could one possibly use to determine the correctness of an interpretation? There is none except intuition and insight, the same guides that led Jung's teacher, Sigmund Freud, in his interpretation of dreams.
Sub conscious
The Personal unconscious had information from the persons individuals past, and life experience also called the Personal Library There is constant interplay between both, the conscious and the unconscious. They arent separate but two aspects of a single system. Individuation is the process of developing wholeness by integrating all the various parts of the psyche. "Meaning full coincidences" are a part of synchronicity

At times, it comes as a thought that walks across the mind in a natural subtle manner, when intuition comes to us in this way then Intuition comes very close to clairvoyance; it appears to be the extra sensory perception (ESP) of reality.
Intuitive Intelligence
As we know, there are many different levels of intelligence; Intuitive intelligence is just one of them. The individual intelligence is a part of life experience, the design of our life, bring up and knowledge. Sometimes stored in the subconscious where is a strong relation between the personal subconscious and conscious, an unbreakable connection.
The function of our Intuitions can be improved by mental exercises, and it becomes as a journey (passage) through the memory and experiences within ourselves, to find the right (signal) frequency (for the points of reference stored in our personal mind library) for the answers we need.

When you are not aware of the qualities you have, ask yourself, what is that you like to do, what where your childhood dreams and where did they go? Discover again your unique qualities; be sure you have them, but mostly not yet developed due to following common directions in life, expectations from others or inner blockages and convictions. Unfold the creativity within, recreate your life, become your own life designer. All highly creative individuals: poets, painters, composers, writers, as well as scientists, make use of intuitions, either consciously, or without being aware of the power of their subconscious mind. They all tap into a hidden source of learning and knowledge. Some great people who believed in intuitions are: Leonardo da Vinci, Beethoven, Rousseau, Tennyson, Einstein, Edison. They believed that they are derived by their intuitions to follow their dreams. You can do the same!

Who you are? What you want? Where are you going? How you will get there? What will you do once you arrive your goals?
Ask Yourself:
Why are you here? Do you want to be here? Where do you want to reach? Why do you want to reach there? [55]
Is this what I really want? Do I want to continue doing this with the same result? What do I care about most? Where is my heart leading me? Do I follow my Dreams and Hearts desire? Most of the time we spoil/waste our days with doing the things we dont like to do. When you do what you like to do, you will feel better about your life. You will reach new heights in your career and your personal life. Give yourself permissions to do the things what inspires you.

Clarity of your desires is one of the most important steps in manifesting what you want. For some, this process may be difficult or frustrating. For others, the process of getting clear about their vision comes easily.
2. Visualize and raise your vibration & focus about your goals.
If you dont like where you are, change your thoughts, change your attitude and change your beliefs. You cannot manifest what you want when you have a negative attitude. You wont attract what you want if you are unkind to people or if you are mean, angry or treat people rudely. Treat others with kindness and respect and you will manifest abundance in every area of your Life.
Create a clear picture of your wishes and desires. Create a positive belief. Create a positive mind set. Create an Abundance mind set. Write your goals on a piece of paper, and always keep in front of you.
By now you must understanding more about the Law of Attraction. Whatever you are focused on something you attract it. When you feel you cannot get it nor do it, you push it away.
[57]
When you say yes to something, you attract more of that into your life, because that is what you are focused on. When you say no to something, you attract more of that into your life, because that is what you are focused on. In order to allow what you want to flow to you, you must allow others to focus on what they want even if you don't agree with it.
[58]
[59]
The Pitfalls
Pitfalls are reasons and excuses which keep you away from reaching your goals. Think again! What are your deeper convictions?
Focus
This will help You Find Your Focus: Do you have a lot of things to do and no idea where to start from? Create a priority list, a to do list. Make a step by step plan which leads you to the right direction. Ask yourself How am I going to do it? Create a mini action plan for each item. Write down the steps you'll need to take, to make it happen. How often do you make choices after asking yourself Why you are doing this? This question requires a CHOICE to be made. Would you like to work smarter or harder? Concentrate and focus at one thing at a time, you will get more done in shorter time duration.
Set goals for yourself with a reasonable time limit, be realistic, believe in yourself, solve the problems at the root level, do all the required things and the success will be a follow. Give yourself recognition in the form of a gift, a movie or an outing with friends or relatives.
There can possibly be some other reason. Give yourself a clear and honest answer. Analyze your inner fears which can be Fears for failure or Fears for success!!
Activity: Now ask yourself: what do I do with my time when I am supposed to study? Again, try to be specific in the questions you ask and your answers.
Results of procrastinating You can probably come up quickly with a list of these.
Your time is wasted. You become full of Stress. You can't relax. You cant concentrate. When you finally do study you don't have time to do it properly There may be adverse effect on friends and family members. You may have to work throughout the night to complete the work. You let yourself down because you don't produce your best. You may miss deadlines and lose marks. You might end up failing.
[61]
Recognizing procrastination
If you recognize that procrastination is a problem, you must find ways to change it. Being a procrastinator is not a character trait but a learned behavior that you can unlearn, with some effort. There are different kinds of procrastinators. Think back to the question about why you put off certain tasks. Recognize why you procrastinate your tasks. It can help you to change.
Relaxation Meditation Take short breaks Change your thoughts into positive Motivate yourself with positive affirmations one thing at a time avoid procrastinations
Sometimes we dont feel like concentrating and we starting doing something else then what we are supposed to do. Thats a part of procrastination! Realize that it takes a long time before you finally complete something you are not working on. If something can be done right now about the things which occupy your mind, take action and do them. If nothing can be done about these things, then try to push those thoughts away for a while and try to concentrate and focus fully on the topic to learn or read.
[62]
Next Steps
Now is the time to act. Don't leave it until tomorrow but decide right now on how you are going to tackle one task that you have been putting off. Time management can help you to deal with procrastination. If you are putting off things to do there are other things that you genuinely should be doing you need to make a plan to find more time

9. Human Emotions
The Power of Opposites related to mind/brain balance How to be Happy & have abundant life Different Emotions Fears - The invisible enemies Anger Anger Management techniques Strengthen Your Mind Power through Relaxation
right brain there isnt balance at all and in our today life we see the follow of it. Daily life is full with High stress levels mixed together with doubt, guilt, fears and anger and far away of faith. (Being in a left brain only) In each pair of opposites, each part is dependent on the other for its existence, like good makes no sense without bad, day is meaningless without night, for the brain/mind it means the same. How to be Happy & have abundant life
Human Emotions and related feelings like happiness & unhappiness are opposites. Understanding that everything physical is in a state of change, moving between polarities and natural laws, is a door to eternal happiness. Each emotion has a vibration of his own; a good feeling gives a positive vibration and increase the energies level and invite to do action, other feelings gives a negative vibration and decrease the energies, low feeling and negatives thoughts have easier access to the person and reduce the self esteem.
More opposites.

Different Emotions
Understanding where things and thoughts come from will create awareness in your conscious mind and will help you release stress. Faith - believe Guilt Doubt Fears Anger
Guilt
Guilt is one of the basic human emotions which gives a feeling of low self esteem. Feelings of guilt can be an everyday fact of life, recognize the source and analyze if there is a real reason for guilt or someone told you something bad, which makes you feel guilty about. Guilt is a reaction from thinking or doing something wrong. After all its your emotions which let you feel like this; say, you feel guilty about something and cant forgive yourself. If you can take some corrective action, take it. Else let that feeling of guilt go away. We all have sometimes to do with the feeling of guilt, the difference is that some people easier can release these feelings and let them go and look at it as a lesson they have learnt. Others keep continuing with blaming themselves for the mistake they have done.
[65]
Doubt
Doubts and fears are the voices and thoughts of our mind which tells us that we will never succeed. When we are full with doubt and fears we can never accomplish anything in life. It always leads to failure or not even starts anything new in life. Free yourself from the limiting beliefs, take love as example, love is a great feeling, the moment that doubt and fears comes in, we feel uncertainty which follows to our emotions going down to a exceptional low point. Fear has its roots in doubt, its better to filter these upcoming thoughts and feelings and recognize the unnecessary thoughts from doubt and fears; the mind dwells on them and we experiences unrealistic fear and doubt. Sometimes a little doubt and fear is good thing, analyze the situation, recognize their existence and realize that even though you may doubt or have fears, it doesn't mean that you are going to make the wrong decision. Freedom from doubt: Self-esteem is the idea that we have about ourselves. It is how much you value yourself and how important you think you are. Break your own limits; Think good about yourself, without any doubt.
A story goes like this: Next week an important interview! Fears and, worries make a start automatically, when its about a job, you desperately want and the mind starts automatically acting in a silly way, what all they can ask? And from now on two way conversations starts in mind, the negative self talk, what to say? How to show them how good you are? The self talk that possibly you arent good enough, or dont have the right qualities. Days are wasted by thinking about this including the sleepless nights and tension. Now look at the opposite side, why should you waste your time and days thinking about this? Or change this habit of negative self talk, when you have done everything you have to do, and then just say, Im going to get this job, thats all. Remember that there cant be something else in your mind as you are focused and your mind is full till the next week meeting and these days are lost. Then we have the fears to lose the safety and the security and we make the choice for a secure life, a life where you know what tomorrow brings and a life without risk, the happiness level is low and not much of excitement and challenge to get a fulfilling life.
You dreamt of a different life, the wishes, the goals, but fears and disbelieve in yourself keeps you away from reaching there. When we dont get what we want, we try to convince ourselves that its only for others and not for us. Fears take us away from wonderful opportunities in our daily lives. Fears succeed in ruining Dreams, opportunities and ambitions Is a true saying, now let us look how we can change Fears into a positive direction, solve the problem behind the fears. There are so many wonderful and positive things to focus on, the miracles, the small things, the smiles, kind words, singing birds and the sunrise, the more you focus on these things, you will feel happier. If some situation makes u get fears, analyze it and see if you can do something to improve the situation. If not, then try to ignore the situation by changing your concentration to some other thing.
[67]
[68]
Anger
People often try to mask their fears with anger; the key is to replace fear with faith, belief in yourself and the power of the good. Underneath a persons anger theres often another emotion, such as hurt or guilt. To work and dissolve this emotion it will give confidence and refuel your energy.
What Is Anger?
We have lots of emotions. At different times, you may be happy, sad, hurt or feeling guilty. Anger is just another way we feel. It's perfectly normal and a human emotion to be angry at times, in fact, it's important to get angry sometimes. But anger must be released in the right way.
Anger Management techniques: Here are some other things you can do when you start to feel angry:
Going for a brisk walk is a great way to work off anger. Talk to a friend you can trust on. Develop realistic expectations of yourself and others. Count 1 to 10 slowly, and try to calm yourself down. Make the choice to stay in shape. Get or give a hug. Turn complaints in to requests. Do jumping jacks or other exercises. Learn problem solving technique. Start smiling about the situation. [69]
Play a video game. Let your anger pass and start practicing forgiveness. Sing along your favorite song. Think good thoughts or recall beautiful moments of your life. Take a hike in the mountains.
Don't let anger control you. It will lower your energy levels and as a result you will feel physically and mentally tired, from the whole situation. Anger makes most situations worse than better. Anger can be powerful and managing it sometimes can be challenging. It asks for awareness and control to manage angry feelings. These skills take time to develop. Awareness is the ability to notice what youre feeling and thinking, and why. When we look at small kids they arent very aware of what they feel, they just react it out in their behavior. But adults have the mental ability to be more self aware. When you get angry, take a moment to notice what youre feeling and thinking. Control is about thinking before you react. It puts some precious seconds or minutes between feeling a strong emotion and taking an action. We all are unique; each of us has our own terms of anger. Sometimes we express it in a way that feels good in the moment, but afterwards it can create more problems. Take the chance to know more about yourself and improve relationships with other people. Remember: For every minute you are angry, you lose sixty seconds of happiness.

Learn more about Imagination and visualizations to reduce stress and prepare for success. Use positive affirmations. See yourself doing well.
[72]
Affirmations have long been recognized as a powerful tool in manifesting desires. That's because the subconscious mind cannot differentiate between actual reality and suggestions. Therefore, it processes suggestions (or affirmations) as being real and goes about using its powerful creative ability and that of the nervous system to actualize those affirmations. For this reason, people from all walks of life, from sport coaches, to sales professionals, promote the practice of affirmations. Affirmations are powerful in and of themselves. But now, imagine multiplying the power of affirmations exponentially so that the results would not only be faster, but would also manifest your desires in record time.

The Affirmation Secrets to transform your thinking and manifest change in Your Life
What is an Affirmation? An affirmation is a positive statement used to reprogram your subconscious
mind, a statement when said to yourself, over and over, and with feeling, will influence internal forces and with the goal to manifest change in your life.
Daily Affirmation
You can start with a daily short affirmation and experience the results. Example, start with I feel good or I am wonderful. Say Affirmations with Passion. The higher your emotional state, as you say them, the more effective they are. Sing or chant your affirmations and they will become more and more powerful.

Choose the affirmations that feel good to you, or create your own. Create your own life & control it yourself.
Negative beliefs you have about yourself and of which you remind yourself daily. Negative statements about yourself which sprinkle your everyday conversation. Negative descriptions given to you by teachers, friends and family members when you were younger onto which you hold even to this day.
[79]
Negative feedback you get from your teacher, boss, colleagues, relatives, or others that you take personally and incorporate into your personal belief system. Negative self-images you have of your body, looks, weight, coloring, face or other parts of your body, which as you visualize, influence your presentation of self to others. Stop talking about negative stories about your past failures, behavior, dont focus on this, use the experiences for better decisions and focus on it. Negative attitudes toward the possibility of your achievement of success in your life influence your motivation, effort, and drive to reach your goals.
Dont wait for recognition of your worth or goodness, recognize your own beauty and your qualities.
Positive affirmations are designed to challenge those negative beliefs and start to stem the flow of negative thoughts and words that seek to validate them. Affirmations are more than just repeating words. It is a whole process of becoming aware of your thoughts and words in everyday life, choosing to think and project happy positive thoughts. The more you can consciously inject the spirit of you affirmations into your daily thoughts and words, the quicker they will work for you.
2. Put your affirmation in the present tense as of its already a fact. 3. Make the affirmation meaningful to you. Make it short. 4. Use the affirmation and repeat it mentally as using your voice, the more you practice the stronger it becomes. 5. Use visualization for a clear vision together with the positive affirmation. See yourself in the picture and the results will be amazing. 6. Write down the affirmations and remember the statements. 7. Repeat the affirmations often. The more often you say positive affirmations the more they become a part of you. 8. Make them funny, laugh and enjoy yourself with them. A common error many people make when they begin doing affirmations expecting the affirmations will do all the work, and nothing else to be done by themselves, it will become clear what you have to do, do what have to be done and practice patience as not everything happen instantly.
You can turn your life around. You can live the life you want. You can achieve your goals. Eliminated the negative thoughts, stop worrying and tell yourself A lot of great things are happening in my life now.

If you don't think you have a passion or if you haven't discovered your passion yet. Then find out answer for this question: What would you do if you had everything you wanted in life? When you answer that question you have discovered your passion. Start doing it today and you will be following your passion. Introduction
This chapter is specially written, keeping students in mind and how they can improve their results. How they can use their mind more efficiently to learn faster & more effectively. This chapter will take the scientific approach to explain several concepts and how they can be more effective for you. At the end of this chapter you would be able to know how you can learn more in less time, retain study topics for a longer time and also how u can get better results in exams.
[90]
Be Inquisitive:I have no particular talent. I am merely inquisitive. Albert Einstein Exactly how the above quote explains, the only way to learn something new is to be Inquisitive about it. This is itself the most important talent. We are sure you might have heard of some people, who are very good at studies, sports, GK Quizzes and much more at the same time. Have you ever wondered how they can do all that in so less time? Well, the answer is: they are Inquisitive about those things. The secret behind this is, whenever you have strong desire of learning something or simply doing something, your brain automatically starts working in the most efficient way. Moreover whatever you learn with an inquisitive mind, always stay in your brain. This is why we recommend, a student should ask more and more questions, no matter how silly they sound. Remember A person, who asks a question, is stupid once, but who never ask is stupid for lifetime.(Famous quotation). In fact, once you establish the habit of asking more questions, youll discover several interesting things: Many times people use jargon or indirect speech to cover up a lack of knowledge or conviction about a project or task. By asking the "Silly" question you'll uncover their lack of comfort about the task or find out how to get more information to accomplish it. Many times other people in the meeting or classroom will approach you afterwards to thank you for asking the question they weren't willing to ask. The assumption we tend to make as humans is that everyone else is perfectly aligned and in the know, and for some reason we as individuals have been left out of the discussion. Quite often I find that very few people are actually in the know and many people leave meetings or classrooms confused as to their priorities and goals because they won't ask a "Silly" question in the meeting or classroom. A "Silly" question will help you clarify your goals and responsibilities quickly - and that's what we really want, isn't it? To have clear goals confirmed by our manager or our team and to wipe away any uncertainties as to who is doing what, when. If you leave a meeting without that knowledge, you've wasted your time.

[92]
The eye is rarely still for more than half a second. Even when you feel the eye is completely still (as when you look steadily at a fixed point such as the following comma), it will in fact be making a number of small movements around the point. If the eye were not constantly shifting in this way, and making new fixations, the image would rapidly fade and disappear. The untrained eye takes about a quarter of a second at each point of fixation, so it is limited to about four fixations per second.
[93]
Each fixation of an average reader will take in two or three words, so that to read a line on this page probably takes between three and six fixations. The duration of the stops and the number of words taken in by each fixation will vary considerably, depending on both the material being read and the individual's reading skill. Although the sharpest perception occurs at the fovea, images that are off-centre are still seen, but less clearly. This peripheral vision performs a most valuable function during reading. Words that lie ahead of the current point of fixation will be partially received by the eye and transmitted to the brain. This is possible because words can be recognized when they are in peripheral vision and the individual letters are too blurred to be recognized. On the basis of this slightly blurred view of what is coming, the brain will tell the eye where to move to next. Thus the eye does not move along in a regular series of jumps, but skips redundant words and concentrates on the most significant (useful and distinguishing) words of the text. Immediate memory span depends on the number of 'chunks' rather than the information content. When we read, we can take in about five chunks at a time. A chunk may be a single letter, a syllable, a word, or even a small phrase the easier it is to understand, the larger will be the chunks. In the case of a skilled reader, the fixation points tend to be concentrated towards the middle of a line of print. When the eye goes to a new line, it does not usually start at the beginning, instead it starts a word or two from the edge. The brain has a good idea of what is to come from the sense of the previous lines and only needs to check with peripheral vision that the first few words are as anticipated. Similarly, the eye usually makes its last fixation a word or two short of the end of a line, again making use of peripheral vision to check that the last few words are as expected. The rhythm and flow of the faster reader will carry him comfortably through the meaning, whereas the slow reader will be far more likely to become bored and lose the meaning of what he is reading. A slow reader, who pauses at every word and skips back reading the same word two or three times, will not be able to understand much of what he reads. By the end of a paragraph the concept is lost, because it is so long since the paragraph was begun. During the process of re-reading, his ability to remember fades, and he starts doubting his ability to remember at all. There is a dwindling spiral of ability. The person re-reads more, then loses more trust in his memory and finally concludes that he doesn't understand what he is reading. When a person is reading rapidly, he is concentrating more, and when he can raise his speed of reading above about 500 w.p.m. with maximum comprehension, he is also speeding up his thinking. New depths of the brain become readily accessible. In addition, accelerated reading can reduce fatigue. Faster reading improves comprehension, because the reader's level of concentration is higher, and there is less cause for him to develop physical tensions such as a pain in the neck or a headache. A further benefit is the improvement of the completeness of thought. Example, try watching a 90 minute video tape in 9 ten-minute sections; comprehension will be much less than it would be had the video been presented in its entirety.
[94]
There is an optimum reading speed for maximum comprehension, which is proportional to your top speed. This rate will vary from one type of material to another and finding the best rate for the material you are reading is critical for good comprehension.
[95]
It might be difficult in the starting but you can surely do it with some practice. Step 3: When you are able to read silently whilst counting out loud, then begin to read silently using thought-stream and to count silently at the same time using sub-vocalization. An alternative method to counting is to say or sub vocalizes a repeated "Aaaa...aaa...aaa..." which has the same effect of occupying the vocal-motor system. Get plenty of practice with Steps 2 & 3, so that this skill is fully acquired and you can easily recognize the difference between 'spoken' sub vocalization and the thought stream. Step 4: Once you can read silently whilst counting silently, begin to increase your reading speed. When your reading speed exceeds 360 w.p.m., the two types of subjective reading will become more differentiated. By using thought stream you can read much faster, whereas sub vocalization is limited by the speed of motoric response. Step 5: Now that you can easily read with thought-stream, leaving behind any sub vocalization, it is time to add more character to the inner speech, so that it is not just a silent stream of thought but is also a stream of visualization. Image the dialogue of the novel, adopting different voices in your inner speech to suit the characters. This should further differentiate your thought-stream from Sub vocalization, which would always tend to be a reflection of your own voice. At the same time, visualize the scenarios of the story, hear the environmental sounds, smell all the various scents, and feel the emotions portrayed. Continue with the above exercises until you have a understanding about the two types of reading (sub vocalized and thought-stream) and can choose between them. This approach is better than trying to suppress sub vocalization altogether. By suppressing both types of subjective reading, one can learn to skim at more than 2000 w.p.m.; however, there will be very little retention of what has been read. This type of reading is valuable only when one is searching for a particular datum, or when one is doing this as a perceptual exercise.
[96]
The curve then levels off at about 90 - 99%. Suppose instead one could turn this curve around and increase the amount of remembered facts with the passage of time. Suppose you have to attend a lecture class or a meeting where it is not possible to take notes or make a recording, yet it is vital to recall the salient points which were discussed. To ensure effective recall you must set up a program in your mind which will act as a store for information. Therefore, as the session proceeds make a mental note of key points which are raised by repeating these subject headings to yourself in numerical order. Repeat this list from the beginning as each new heading is added. In this way you can keep a running total of all the successive points that have been raised. This is possible because your inner thought-stream is much faster than the vocalized speech that you are listening to, so you can fill in the gaps with your review programming. It also helps to accompany each heading with a visual representation of the subject matter, particularly if that image is striking or humorous (The way we discussed in the memory chapter earlier). Five or ten minutes after the session ends, find a quiet place where you can sit down and relax, then go through these key topics in your mind. Do not worry if in this short space of time quite a lot of the material seems to have been forgotten. Spend a couple of minutes on this exercise and never strain yourself to recall elusive items. Just make an educated guess about anything you cannot recall at that time. Repeat each of the topics to yourself just once and make a written note if you can. This helps the initial neurological consolidation of the memories from short term to permanent long term recordings. About an hour later, have a second recall session, exactly as before, going through all the topics without undue strain, repeating them to yourself. New aspects and data will reappear by association. The third session should take place about three hours later, the next after six hours, preferably before going to sleep. This makes maximum use of the consolidation occurring during the dreaming process. Repeat the recall procedures three or four times on each of the second and third days, spacing the sessions out evenly through the day. It is also found that our mind can recall information most easily if it is stored inform of mental images associated with a particular topic. It means that the mind handles images, especially vivid and unusual ones (especially funny), far more effectively than it deals with words, numbers, or abstract [97]
concepts. You can make use of this fact by briefly forming a picture of each major topic when it is initially described and later as you review the topic; this will enhance retention and recall. If you get stuck at any point make use of the picture association to jog your memory. Remain relaxed and think of the first thing that the previous item you were able to remember reminds you of. This should produce some kind of association that can be used as a trigger, leading on to the next link in the chain. After perhaps up to ten such links have been pulled out of your mind, one of the missing topics will reappear automatically (Association link method, which we learned in the memory chapter earlier). Try this review system as an exercise at the earliest opportunity in a real-life situation. Compare the gain in remembered facts with what you were normally able to hold in your mind over a period of three or more days. Your memory and your ability to learn are much, much greater than you may have supposed. The effect of such a review program is to reduce greatly the rate of forgetting. Instead of the memory dropping off rapidly by about 80% over the first 24 hours, it can be reinforced by reviews at the critical consolidations periods and at subsequent intervals, and it can be raised back towards and then above, that which was initially retained.
The same technique can be applied whenever you study materials that you intend to remember. It may be thought that with continued study of a subject, the reviews would accumulate and take over most of your study time. Actually, this is not the case. Supposing a person studied every day for one hour a day, and in addition set up a review program for this study. On any one day he would need to review the work from the study session just finished (immediately after, a few hours after and before going to bed), and also material from one day, one week, one month and six months before.

5. Write in big & clear letters. If there is a key term in the middle of any paragraph, do write it in CAPITAL Letters, so that he can easily notice it. 6. Use as many diagrams as possible to explain, as we know now that human mind can read pictures much faster than written text. We have included some pictures of sample handwriting and a real answer sheet. If you watch them carefully, you will find out that they have clear handwriting (easy to understand) and has diagram with key points to explain better.

Do physical exercise on a regular basis. Try exercising before you start your work/study to increase alertness and balance your mind and body. Relax your mind and give yourself an affirmation and/or an image that will motivate you. You can do some alternate breathing before you begin start. Break assignments into small step-by-step tasks. Analyze your study/work skills to make sure that your problem is one of concentration, not faulty study skills. Look for a special interest in each subject for which you do not feel motivated. Chart your progress after a few study sessions. Set realistic goals. Whenever you find your mind wandering, stand up, stretch your body and get back to work. Take a short break after every 30 minutes of reading to let what you have just read have a chance to sink in and find its way to connectors and memory storage points in your mind. Do not use the break for a phone call, TV. Etc. just sit back and think of what you have read. Watch your eating pattern. Limit junk food, sugar, and caffeine you are taking. They can give you a buzz but that dont really makes you any more alert.
Get 6/8 hours of sleep per day. Its important for your healthy metabolism.

Priority plan
Keep a calendar with appointments and assignment deadlines. Make a schedule for your study/work and stick to your schedule. Do not just try; doing is that what gives results! Divide your goals for each study session. Plan ahead exactly what you want to accomplish in a study session. Keep working until you accomplish your goals. Plan an enjoyable activity as a reward for a job well done. Talk about your concentration/motivation problems with a friend and/or make an appointment with a counselor. Concentration is an elusive state of mind. Ironically, the more you think or worry about concentration, the less you're actually concentrating on the task at hand. That's why strategies to improve concentration usually approach it indirectly, by focusing on the elimination of distraction. A thoughtful analysis of what distracts your concentration will often indicate the most effective course of action for improving it.

The Library is an old favorite, and sometimes the study room in your hostel hall or an empty lounge, classroom, or meeting room can work well too. Ideal study/work environment:
No Music. No Noise. Sufficient Light. Balanced Colors. Balanced Room temperature. Well ventilated room.
Physical distractions can affect your concentration negatively and can have a negative impact on your study. It can be the reason of your concentration difficulties. The pitfalls for not able to concentrate and relax
Thoughts and worries Fears and Mistakes Stress Irregular sleep Irregular Exercise Irregular Eating pattern or habits
The connection between physical health and intellectual functioning is strong related to each other. Finding the way which works the best for you can help you to maintain your brain at its physiological peak. Planning your study timings and time management strategies will give you faith and the physical ability to concentrate will be at its best. Personal issues like a breakup with a friend can cause a big distraction for you to concentrate, mostly it s temporarily and the ability to concentrate returns fast to normal. There can possibly be a more serious situation search for some outside help from a counselor service when available. Sometimes its not possible to concentrate fully, take some time off for yourself. Go outside for a walk and dont think about the study for a while. Start fresh again. Dont feel guilty about breaks, you deserve breaks. If you press yourself to study for a longer time, it would be waste as your mind will not take any new information without a rest break.
[104]
When there is a problem, spend some time thinking about it, how to solve it, what you can do, possible you can solve it straight away or you need to take some action, then better dont wait, take action and when its done you can start your study again fresh with concentration.
