2014-2015 JOINT LEGISLATIVE BUDGET HEARING Mental Hygiene

Senate Finance Committee Chair John A. DeFrancisco and Assembly Ways and Means Committee Chair Herman D. Farrell, Jr. today announced that the 12th Joint Legislative Hearing in a series of 13 hearings will be held on Tuesday, February 11. During the Hearing on Mental Hygiene, which is part of the legislative process to review the 20142015 Executive Budget, officials of state mental hygiene agencies and representatives of mental health advocacy organizations will have an opportunity to address the Senate and Assembly fiscal committees. These joint legislative hearings are available for live viewing on the Senate and Assembly websites and the Legislative Channel (available on cable systems throughout the state), but will be preempted when the houses are in session. At the conclusion of the legislative deliberations, live televised coverage of the hearings will resume. Among those scheduled to testify are Martha Schaefer Hayes, executive deputy commissioner, NYS Office of Mental Health; Helene DeSanto, deputy commissioner, NYS Office for People with Developmental Disabilities; Arlene Gonzalez-Sanchez, commissioner, NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse; Harvey Rosenthal, executive director, NYAPRS; and Glenn Liebeman, CEO, Mental Health Association in NYS. Testimony also will be provided by Antonia Lasicki, executive director, Association for Community Living; Michael Seereiter, president and CEO, NYS Rehabilitation Association; Ann M. Hardiman, executive director, NYS Association of Community and Residential Agencies; and Onondaga County Mental Health Commissioner Robert C. Long, chair and Kelly Hansen, executive director, NYS Conference of Local Mental Hygiene Directors. In addition, testimony also is expected from Ted Houghton, executive director, Supportive Housing Network of NY; and Edward A. Sassaman MD, Mitchell Shear MD, and Marcia Shear, Judge Rotenberg Educational Center.
