L I G H T D octor LEFEBUREs work is characterized by being based on experimentation. Since 1945, year upon year of experimentation led to the creation of the prototypes of his machines. In his laboratory in Gretz-Armainvillier (France), Dr LEFEBURE used to manufacture the commercial model of the Alternophone by himself. After a while, ha had them made by a French company. Dr LEFEBURE has always been very collaborative with the people interested in his work, treating them as partners and paying much attention to their observations. Such observations have often led to the discovery of new phosphenic phenomena. Today, thanks to the explanation given by Dr LEFEBURE in his books, practitioners, through personal involvement, contribute to the growth of phosphenic research. Such research has led to the emergence of new machines: the Rotating Seat, the Cerebral Synchro-Cyclotron, the Gyrascope and more. United though solitary, phosphenists make a geographically spread entity. Most of them have never met, and may never meet. Thats the reason why I looked for different ways of creating links between phosphenists, for them to exchange their experiences, discoveries and passion for Phosphenism. The forum, enabling many exchanges between members is one of these links. This magazine is another one. We hope that our network of interesting information will prove a valuable resource, thereby helping you to produce some amazing experiences. We invite you in turn to share your own experiences, thus creating an exponential diffusion of Phosphenism. With my best (phosphenic) thoughts for this New Year 2007. Thank you for your support. A MACHINE FOR THE THIRD MILLENNIA THE ASTRAL PROJECTOR OR CEREBRAL SYNCHRO- CYCLOTRON Leave your body, explore other dimensions, parallel universes, and discover the huge potential of your mind with the Astral Projector. Dr LEFEBURE had already created the Cerebral Cyclotron (see the book: "LExploration du Cerveau", Mind Exploration). Developing his work, Daniel STIENNON, created the Cerebral Synchrocyclotron. Mind Machines Mind Machines is an American word designating technologies that alter human states of consciousness. In French tradition, such devices are called Cerebral Activation Devices. The Alternophone or Alternating Audio Device and the Gyrascope or Kundalini Raising Machine are some of Dr LEFEBURE creations. WHAT IS THE PHOSPHENIC CENTER? Its a modern machine offering a seeker an opportunity for new discoveries. It enables an initiatory trip inside ones own mind to discover unsuspected potentials. The Phosphenic Machine is amazingly transcendental. It is an Astral Projector or a Synchro- Cyclotron. Its operation facilitates beautiful and rich internal experiences without the need of long and laborious ascetic practice. Its a machine stimulating the growth of consciouness. Some people who have used virtual reality simulators such as flight simulators have reported spontaneous out-of-body experiences and whirling sensations in the spine together with an internal illumination. Such experiences are understood in yogic traditions as the experience of Kundalini. The experience comes from the fact that the simulator gave them a sense of movement thus stimulating their phenic system. Attraction park rides, USA's Six Flags, ecstasy, drug addiction, virtual helmets are really popular. Many people like strong sensations. One can notice the success of all extreme new sports like free-ride, sky surf, skydiving, free-fall Its a modern and clumsy way of seeking to recreate our ancestors ceremonies of initiation. This interest in strong sensation is actually not specific to our times: we find it in different forms through out all our history and in all civilisations. There are so many examples that a whole book could hardly manage to describe them all. For example, for 2000 years the teenage boys of some indigenous tribes living upon the pacific islands of Vanuatu, have marked their coming of age and passage into adulthood by attaching vines to their calves and jumping from a tower tens of metres high. Bungee jumping is a modern equivalent to this ancestral initiatory ritual. An other popular example is the scarf game in school playgrounds. Children tighten scarves around their neck until intoxication occurs. They call it the great void. Some children have actually died during this process. PHOSPHENIc-center by Daniel STIENNON Page 4 Such practices echo the yogic breathing techniques. Air deprivation (pneunophene) increases chemical and electric reactions in the brain and can induce hyperconscious states. Daniel STIENNON, who was Dr LEFEBURE assistant for 7 years, spent almost 10 years developing the Cerebral Synchro-Cyclotron. It is such a powerful machine that he had to find volunteers familiar enough with managing different states of consciousness, to calibrate its performances. Who could be those people? The best subjects for the test were hard drug users. Many reported that the machine gave them a richer and better quality of internal experience than they had been getting from using drugs. Their contribution to the test permitted a calibration of the machine from level 1 to 7. Level 1 and 2 are appropriate for adolescents and sensitive persons, levels 3, 4, and 5 for those in search of powerful sensations and level 6 and 7 for curing addictions to drugs. The machine may be viewed as a direct response to the exponential use of drugs on our planet and its dramatic consequences on our present and our future. Because it offers an initiation separated from any religious dogma, the PHOSPHENIC CENTER is somewhat of a revolution in the world of initiatory and spiritual practice. No guru, no master, just a technician/instructor who knows how to use the machine. The experience is guaranteed within 3 minutes of use, even for sceptics and hardcore materialists. At last science meets spirituality. Physics meet metaphysics. Overtaking the laws of cause and effect. Exploring the subjective world. Without drugs, training, master or guru, without laying of hands or dogma, the results are immediate. Yes, it is now possible, with the futuristic PHOSPHENIC MACHINE, fruit of the extraordinary discoveries on the phosphenes by Dr Francis LEFEBURE. This revolutionary device can transport, within a few minutes, any believer or sceptic into higher planes of consciousness and provide them with the experiences that have been seeked by all philosophical and religious mystics. The Phosphenic Machine is a serious project based on cerebral physiology, i.e. based on real science. We will not describe here its principles because it would be way too complex. However you can our website www.phosphenism.com for further discussion on this subject. When using the Cerebral Synchro-Cyclotron, you are comfortably seated on a rotating chair inside a flight simulation-like cabin, without helmet, or any other physical contact (captors, suction cups). You will hear sounds and see lights and then let yourself be transported by the natural neurological phenomena that will take you on a memorable trip within the unknown realms of your consciousness. T oday is sunday and we are going to experiment with the famous Phosphenic Machine or cerebral Synchro-Cyclotron. We are a party of students of gyroscopic meditation and all fluent in the works of Doctor Lefebure. We all have experimented this awakening though to various degrees as some among us practice up to five hours a day. How do they do that ? Well there is a man who is retired, another who is a yoga teacher or another that is on a sabbatical... Another thing we have in common is that we all have several years of experience with the practice of Gyroscopic Meditation. One of us has started practice in 1981 after meeting Dr Lefebure and has been practicing 1 or 2 hours a day since ! As the narrator of this story, I would like to relate this exceptional day that will always remain in our memories. Some of us even came from foreign countries responding to Daniel's invitation. We are all gathered together, bonded by the quest of the awakening of Kundalini. We are welcomed by a doctor and by Claire, research scientist at the CNRS. It is with a great inner excitement that we head for the room where the machine is located. As soon as we see the "phosphenic machine", our eyes start to glitter with excitement. I cannot describe all the options available on the machine but I can say that no science fiction writer ever imagined such an apparatus. We feel like children in front of an enormous toy (that would not fit in someone's living room) as we are briefed on how to use the machine. Once this is done, I offer to be the first to experiment the new adventure of the fantastic Phosphenic Machine of the School of Doctor Lefebure. I sit down on a comfortable armchair and put the safety belt on (of a similar type as the ones used in cars). The machine starts, white lights are switched on as well as colored lights. A disk of 4 meters of diameter forming a complex geometrical structure starts to rotate. Sounds come out of the speakers surrounding the machine. A metal cylinder made of a similar material as the detection metals used in divination starts to rotate around me. After a few seconds it seems the tube "sweeps" through my aura. Then, the seat set on level 22 starts rotating. I close my eyes. After rotating for three minutes at a constant speed, the seat stops. I keep my eyes closed, attentive to the sensations. For maybe a couple of seconds, nothing happens. Then, with an incredible strength and brutality, I feel as if I am "torn" from my body. I then feel my double taken by an amazing yet very pleasant force, as if I was wrapped in a feeling of joy. The sensation is very powerful and, after a short pause, while I think it is going to stop, the sensation of being "torn from my body" comes back fully to the extend that I think someone has turned the machine on again. As soon as this new sensation "vanishes" I am surprised by an incredibly powerful and majestic surge of kundalini. I not only perceive this pillar of energy rising through my body but I also feel as if I am but a ball of extremely condensed energy. I will not describe any more, as I believe it is better for one to discover such an amazing thing through experience. It is after a few minutes of observation that I open my eyes again and get up calmly. I feel an brilliant clarity of mind, all my intellectual functions are activated. The much sought after search for Kundalini, mysterious force, is obtained without any effort and with all the benefits of the practice. It is truly unbelievable, only three minutes open infinite possibilities of interplanetary travel with a fusion of consciousness and many other beautiful experiences... Such a joy... This is truly the initiation of the future. Thank you Daniel, in the name of all of us! Testimony, France, February 18 th 2004 Page 6 BUILDING A 2 METER GYRASCOPE EXPERIMENT 1 To build the Gyrascope you will need: 1 - Six 100x50 cm polystyrene boards (2mm thick), a pot of mat black paint and a brush, a roll of kitchen silver foil, a roll of double sided tape, a 50cm wide and 8mm thick board of plywood, a caulking gun (for glue cartridge) and a cartridge of polystyrene adhesive, a power drill with reversible action and variable speed, a 100x10mm bolt with two washers and two 8mm nuts, a 150watt spot light, a scalpel, a ruler, a pencil, a tape measure, scissors, a wood file, a jigsaw, a 17mm spanner and a 17mm (minimum) drill bit and a tube of Loctite glue. All of these materials can easily be found in a DIY shop. 2 - To create the blades of the Gyrascope, cut the polystyrene board diagonally with the scalpel. Make a slow cut to prevent the polystyrene from tearing. Mind your fingers. 3 - Cut the ends of each of the halves (blades) so the sides have the same length. Make the same operation on the 5 other boards of polystyrene. 4 - Paint 6 blades with black mat paint. 2 4 3 1 5 by Alain (alias Alain 69) Page 7 5 - With double sided tape stick the silver foil on the other 6 blades. Use the tape on each of the 3 sides of the blades and one more length in the centre. Apply a length of silver foil on top. It does not matter if it wrinkles as this will produce extra reflections. Cut the surplus foil at the sides with scalpel or scissors. 6 - Apply the polystyrene adhesive on the lateral sides of the blades and stick them together. Apply the adhesive upon the whole length to solidify the whole piece. One cartridge will be sufficient for the whole process. 7 - Glue the top side of the blades. Use your fingertip to spread it well and improve contact. 8 - If necessary glue the under side of wings too, I did not do it on mine because it was not needed. 9 - With the jigsaw, cut the plywood in a 50cm diameter circle. Again mind your fingers. 10 - In the centre of the disc drill a 17mm minimum hole. I did one with a 14mm drill bit and I had to file the hole to leave enough space for the bolt. 11 - The driving axle is made of a 100x10mm bolt with two 8mm nuts and washers. Warning: The width of the bolt should not be bigger than the width of the plywood board because it would then be impossible to adequately lock the driving axle onto the board. 6 9 10 11 7 8 Page 8 12 - With the file, finish shaping the centre hole so it fits the bolt perfectly. Be as precise as you can, leaving no possible wobble of the bolt. Because any initial small wobble will increase with time and the bolt could end up turning on itself. 13 - Fit the bolt in the centre hole and glue it with the caulking gun adhesive. Feel free to force the bolt in place, maybe banging it. Let the glue dry. Warning: It is this same bolt which will transmit the rotational force to the rest of the device, so pay adequate attention to this fitting process. 14 - With super glue, stick a washer to the bottom side of the disc and the other washer and bolt to the top side of the disc. Put some glue too at the bottom of the threaded rod before locking everything with the 17mm spanner. Let the glue dry. 15 - Cover the bottom side of the plywood disc with the caulking gun adhesive. 16 - Stick the board to the blades. Be generous with the glue on the edges of the plywood disc. 17 - Glue all around where the plywood contacts the blades, smoothing the applied glue with your fingertips. 18 - The construction of the Gyrascope is complete. 19 - This picture shows the details on how to fit the drill to the ceiling. Warning: Be sure to firmly secure the drill with 2 or 3 different attachments. Indeed the force of rotation is really strong for such a large Gyrascope and if the drill is not properly fixed it could fall, particularly when starting.Check the attachment of the drill on a regular basis. 12 15 16 17 13 14 Page 9 20 - The Gyrascope is now mounted in place. 21 - Because it takes lots of space, I placed my Gyrascope in my attic under the roof where it wont bother anyone. I placed a fan for the summer and a sleeping bag for the winter to ensure my comfort during one hour training sessions. Because of its great dimensions the Gyrascope works horizontally. The user lies down, 30 to 40 cm underneath the Gyrascope. The entire field of vision is then stimulated by the rotating blades. The eyes loose any fixed point of reference. Once the eyes are closed, the gyrating phosphene takes up the whole of the field of vision. 22 - Take a 10-15 cm diameter cardboard circle and cover it in silver foil before mounting it in the centre of the Gyrascope. 23 - Take a 10-15 cm diameter cardboard circle and cover it in silver foil before mounting it in the centre of the Gyrascope. Place a 150 Watt spot light to illuminate the gyroscope, directing it towards the centre. On the picture you can see the Gyropulsar with the Alternophone above it coupled with the Mantratron at the back. In front of the spot light there is a stereo headset with a time switch on each side, one is set to 1 min and the other to 3 min. The headset is plugged to the Alternophone/Mantatron. The 150 Watts spot light is on as soon as the Gyroscope runs. Theres a 60 Watts bulb linked to the Gyropulsar which turns on as soon as the Gyroscope stops. The third bulb is only used for setting up the space at the beginning and the end of a session. 18 22 23 19 20 21 Page 10 24 - The installation of the Gyrascope is now over. 25 - It is also possible to stick some coloured paper on parts of the blades. TRIAL TESTIMONIES Sessions with this type of Gyrascope are really intense. Because of the length of the blades, all of the field of vision is moving. Theres no fixed point of reference for the eye to hold on to. Therefore we loose all of our usual frames of reference, and everything seems to turn. I remember that after a few days of daily practice, in the middle of a session. I felt my body separating in two from the bellybutton. I felt a great void in this area while the top part of my body was progressively parting from the bottom part of my body. Then everything went slowly back into place. Very soon I had out of body experiences with my limbs. Other experiences were happening at night. Initially, flying dreams, and then later, conscious dreams.. 24 25 Page 11 Driving 2 hours daily, I noticed that the vibrations of the car have a noticeable effect on the vibration I usually feel at the base of my spine. I thought it would be interesting to fit a small vibrator under the driving seat to amplify this vibration. In order to create a vibrating seat I ordered a small aero-model engine and a power cable that plugs into the cigarette lighter. (Photo 1). I attached a pluming clip on a small aluminium sheet and I used a small bolt as the mass responsible for creating vibration once the engine is powered. (Photo 2). Naturally, everything was strongly held together in order to support the vibrations. I attached the engine onto the aluminium sheet with the collar and a threaded rod. I fitted the nut onto the engine axis. With the mass being off balance it will induce the vibration when the engine rotates at the right speed. (Photo 3). The whole thing is attached underneath the seat. The aluminium sheet slides under the seats springs, transmitting the vibration as soon as the engine is plugged in the cigarette lighter. I chose an engine with a 1440 rpm speed rotation which is equivalent to a frequency of 1/24th of second. Indeed I followed Dr Lefebures advice in his book called Thinking at a rhythm of 1/6th of a second in which he says that the 1/6th of a second rhythm (as well as its superior and inferior octaves) have very strange effects that are incredible and almost impossible to describe. I was therefore naturally inclined to use the 1440 rpm speed which is a multiple of the 1/6th of a second rhythm. The vibrations are now extremely pleasant and efficient. They are certainly more regular and wider than the original ones of the car. The installation is now complete and ready to work. Just plug or unplug the cigarette lighter to start the vibrations under the seat. (Photo 4). BUILDING A VIBRATING CAR SEAT EXPERIMENT 2 by Alain (alias Alain 69) 1 2 3 4 Page 12 t he project took longer than initially planned but I am now at the terminal stage of the construction of my rotating seat. It took time because there were a few technical problems to resolve such as the correct choice of engine, determination of the torque, rotational speed and choice of the transmission system: notched pulley and chain at the end of the construction. This project is reserved for well equipped DIY experts. Youll definitely need a drill press. I even had to use a lathe to redo the boring of the pinions and a press to cut some pieces. But the reward was there from the first trials! During construction, for the first test, I sat on the seat for 10 seconds only to check if the system pinion + chain was working properly and to my great surprise as soon as I stopped the engine and the seat started to rotate more slowly, I felt my first experience of the gyrophene: it felt like if my body was rotating in the opposite direction of the rotation of the seat. It was a surprising and very pleasant sensation that I sought to recreate later on. That was a first, most satisfying test. I then added a second engine on the axes of the seat which activates a 1/6th of a second vibration. Moving a piece of lead, I can change the intensity of the vibrations, and I can have higher frequencies by moving the pinions. I can also change the speed of rotation of the seat with different pinions. Its a cheaper solution than the electronic speed modulation of the engine. The 2 engines : vibration + rotation are started with a remote control. I finished the construction a few days ago and I practice every day on the seat before doing my exercises with the vibrating table and the Gyrascope. Within such an environment sensations are prolific. The best moment remains the triggering of the gyrophene: a unique sensation of body rotation After a few days of practice, it feels like the gyrophene accelerates even though the rotation of the seat remains the same. BUILDING A ROTATING SEAT EXPERIMENT 3 by Alain (alias Alain 69) Page 13 THE CONSTRUCTION : A simple new or second hand office chair will do for building the rotating seat. Fix the supports of the engine on the chairs feet. This shows the drive engine being put together. This shows the chain and the driving pinions. Fixing the arm supports. Fixing the feet supports. The drive engine is now fixed. This shows the chair with the second engine for vibrations. Ive replaced the wheels of the chair with rubber ends to add a bit of give, ameliorating the vibration of the whole thing. This shows a detailed view of the two engines, for rotation and vibration. This is a detailed view of the electrically controlled section under the seatl. Page 14 EFFECTS THAT WERE EXPERIENCED I was so impatient to try the rotating seat that as soon as I received the pinions I immediately wanted to do so. The first trials were amazing. I first set the machine a bit randomly. I let the chair turn for about 10 to 20 seconds then stopped to observe the sensations. I promise you I wasnt disappointed : As soon as the seat stopped I felt my etheric body turning in the opposite direction. It made a few turns, a sensation called the gyrophene. It was the first time I could feel my etheric body turn around me with such precision while my physical body was still. It was a strange but pleasant sensation. From then on I had a single goal in mind, finishing the turning chair to delve into these sensations. The light bulb above the seat is plugged onto the Gyropulsar. Once completed, the chair has been placed in front of a Gyrascope to enable the association of the rotating phosphene with the gyrophene. Page 15 Melt 500g of lead and pour it in a square mould. For isolation, it is possible to set the table on rubber rings. The table in now finished. As I have used it for several weeks I can testify to its efficiency thanks to its 1/6th of a second vibratione. To change the exercise, it is possible as well to add the Chi-Machine on the vibrating table. It is this mass that will create the vibration as it turns around the axles of the engine. Solidly fix the engine on the table with 4 bolts. Mount the table on 4 silent-blocs to facilitate the vibration. DESIGNING A VIBRATING TABLE EXPERIMENT 4 by Alain (alias Alain 69) While I was lying down underneath my Gyrascope, I felt like adding a 1/6th of a second vibration for my whole body. TO MAKE THE VIBRATING TABLE, YOULL NEED: - A board, approximately 2 x 0.60 m. - 4 silent-blocs. - An electric 360 rpm rotating engine. - About 500g of lead. - A hinge to fix on the engine axles. - Rubber rings. Page 16 BUILDING A ROTATING SOUND GENERATOR EXPERIMENT 5 A phosphenist, to whom we are very grateful, gave Daniel a 12 channel sound and light sequencer and its matching speakers. Daniel passed it on to me last summer. Fixing the speakers on a circular 1m diameter sheath, I could then knock together a little rotating sound generator. I havent developed the light aspect of the sequencer because I think the Gyrascope has stronger effects than a turning light. For the visual aspect I already had another idea which is developed in the next experiment. by Alain (alias Alain 69) The 12 channels sound generator and its speakers. Rear view with plugging. An electrical sheath with some cable ties. All the speakers are now plugged in. Front view with the different setting options: volume, speed.... Page 17 RESULTS OF THE FIRST TRIALS 1 - The first trials have been very surprising. 2 - After plugging the CD player on the RCA entry of the device, I set the volume and speed. 3 - Its a very easy machine to use. 4 - Its interesting how the movement of the sound rotating around the head can lead the thoughts in a rotating pattern without effort ; just by letting go and naturally following the sound which turns around you. 5 - It becomes really easy to apply the different exercises of rotation of thoughts described by Dr Lefebure. 6 - The different speed settings affect the variation of the speed of rotation of thoughts, and it is very noticeable. The complete installation. Connecting the two extremities of the sheath to form a circle. For the first trials the speakers are supported on 2 chairs. The speakers support is fixed to the ceiling using plumbers clips for 50 mm diameter pipes. I connected a CD player to the sound generator with a 3.5mm/RCA jack so it is now possible to play any CD on the rotating sound machinel. Page 18 MY PERSONAL PHOSPHENIC MACHINE EXPERIMENT 6 by Alain (alias Alain 69) Im going to change my turning and vibrating Seat into a Personal Phosphenic Machine. I fixed 2 pieces of plywood on the armrests. Small rubber buffers will be used to soften the vibrationsr. The PC shelf rests on the armrests. I added a metallic bar to strengthen the back of the chair and the armrestss. I painted the armrests and the PC shelf. I fixed the Shelf on the armrests with butterfly bolts. These are the supports for the PC, they are made of rubber to dampen vibrations and brackets to make sure the PC is stable during rotations. Page 19 These are video glasses to watch the virtual Gyrascope during the rotation. The effect is equal to a 40 16/9 panoramic screen with a 1,000,000 pixels resolution (more than sufficient). The effect of these glasses is impressive : it is like being in front of a giant cinema screen with some back space. The screen fills all the field of vision. During rotations, the PC is closed to avoid any accidente. I doubled the back of the chair for better comfort and support. Here are the details on how I attached this second support to the back of the chair. Setting the seat belts for securing yourself to the seat. This shows the virtual Gyrascope PC software with the connecting cables to the glasses on the left. I installed the batteries for the glasses on the left of the shelf unit and on the right the remote control for the chair. The PC is placed on the shelf and is blocked by small felt stamps. It must have an S-Video output for plugging in the glasses using a S-Video/RCA adapter. I fixed a headrest on top of the back of the chair. This shows the wiring of the electric cables that will be linked to the programmer of rotations. It will then be possible to program with precision the length of rotations and pauses. Page 20 NOTICABLE EFFECTS Imagine youre sitting on the chair, you put the video glasses on, fasten your seat belt, and there you go for a multi sensational amazing trip. First of all you close your eyes. Youre in the dark in total silence. You just let go for a moment Suddenly you feel a light sensation that gently spreads in you whole body. Then theres a sound that starts to rotate around you. You feel that your body is starting to rotate. You can now open your eyes and you see a huge spiral luminous and colourful disk turning in front of you. Its an amazing show. The disc is all that you can see and it really looks huge. Blinded by all these colours, you forget that the chair is turning. But once the chair stops turning, under the effects of the gyrophene, it feels like everything starts to rotate around you but in the opposite direction. This sensation of inverse rotation makes you close your eyes. And you see a huge phosphene that fills up your whole field of vision. It looks like a cyclone rotating above you. You open your eyes and the huge spiral, colourful and luminous disc appears again. The colours are blinding and beautiful. The disc rotation is regular. As the chair starts rotating again your vision gets blurred. You close your eyes and the cyclonic phosphene is still rotating. From the beginning your thoughts are rotating around you led by the turning sounds, and they are now totally in phase with the rotation of the phosphene and the gyrophene. Your senses are now saturated with sensations. Sounds whirling around you, a huge whirl in front of your eyes and a vibration which starts from the bottom of the chair and slowly rises alongside your spinal column and fills you up completely. And suddenly. A force that rises rises VIBRATION Intensity of vibration. Frequencies of vibrations. Manual start/stop of the vibrations. ROTATIONS Direction of rotation. Speed of rotation. Automatic programming of stop/turn periods of the chair. ROTATING SOUND Setting of the sound volume. Speed of the sound rotation. Choice of sound source. Manual start/stop of the turning sound generator. GYRASCOPE Choice between 5 different types of blades. Direction of the rotation of the blades. Blade rotation speed. Duration of rotation of the blades. Contrast and luminosity of the video glasses. Manual start/stop of the virtual gyrascope software. One can combine one, two, three or all of those previous elements for a determined length of time for a training session. All of the controls are centralized either on the PC or on the remote control. Once those initial choices are made, the machine works on its own and will automatically stop thanks to the programming. Therefore, one can fully concentrate on the different exercises of the rotation of thoughts and change the settings or stop the session at any point. MY PERSONAL PHOSPHENIC MACHINE Details of the different possible settings The construction of the seat is now over; I placed it in my attic underneath the turning sound generator. This is my New Personal Phosphenic Machine. Page 21 ALTERNOPHONE CONNECTED TO A STROBOSCOPIC DECODER EXPERIMENT 7 O ne day, I had a great surprise as I tried connecting the Alternophone to the Stroboscopic Decoder while doing my exercises with the Phosphenic Lamp. The Alternophone emitted a stroboscopic signal as well. I therefore kept on practicing in this way and results are very beneficial as well as interesting. I received simultaneously a luminous flash and a click on the right side and then on the left side. Reversing the headset can dissociate the sound from the luminous signal. You can therefore hear the click on the left ear while seeing the light on the right eye. You can use two half ping pong balls on your eyes and the perceptions become really beautiful. You can set the Alternophone on different speeds so they coincide with the various brain frequencies Beta, Alpha, Delta, and Theta. The Alternophone really is an amazing device which has many applications and enables beautiful experiences. The Alternophone which is connected to the Stroboscopic Decoder is set to 3 seconds on each side. You can add the repetition of a mantra or a prayer, while the Mantatron is set to the rhythm of 1/6th of a second. This triggers amazing experiences ! You can vary the rhythms and find the ones that produce mental images automatically. Id like to add that I also use a small vibrator placed at the base of my spine. It is plugged in the Alphalum and has a rhythm close to the Alternophones. Because of the alternation between the clicks and the luminous signals and the possibility of regulating their intensity with the stroboscopic decoder, practice is different than the one I had mentioned previously in the website in the testimony section (Ganzfeld effect). Using ping-pong balls or with your eyes closed, the intensity of the luminous signal is increased. by Francisco Rodriguez Domnguez (Gran Canaria) Page 22 Page 23 MAKING A GYRASCOPE EXPERIMENT 8 DURATION: 1 hour maximum. To solve this problem, just take the button off and remove the spring that forces the contact. This way you can adjust the speed by pressure. by Yannick (Suisse) 1 9 2 4 5-6 7-8 3 Page 24 TESTIMONY EXPERIENCES by Yannick (Suisse) INTRODUCTION JI would like to share some testimony in order to encourage new practitioners. That is why Im going to relate the unfolding of my experiences through the practice of Phosphenism. As you will later find out I am quite a novice in the world of Phosphenism. The phenomenon and experiences that Im going to tell you about are subjective and honestly described without pretension. Ill always try to remain as close as possible to my memories without showing off, and I wont be getting too personal. The efficacy of Phosphenism is such that my experiences, which may sound amazing, are relatively inconsequential when compared with the experiences of advanced practitioners. Im 26 and I work in the Swiss administration. Ive been interested in spiritual science since I was 16 but I had never actually tried any particular practice, nor did I understand them. I discovered Phosphenism in 2003, and believe me, it was an amazing experience. During one year I practiced for half an hour every now and then. Later I decided to practice a bit more rigorously: half an hour at midday and 45 to 60 min in the evenings, with a few empty phases. Results were more than encouraging. But it is through following a training course that I really found the driving force to practice on a regular basis. Many thanks to Daniel STIENNON, who enabled this progression. Since the course, I alternate phases of daily 3 h intensive training sessions and periods where I simply maintain the rhythms going. Once one has experienced the taste of a genuine initiatory practice, it becomes impossible to stop without feeling lousy about it !!!! SO HERE ARE THE DETAILS OF MY EXPERIENCES, AS RECORDED IN MY DREAM DIARY Page 25 OUT OF BODY EXPERIENCES IN DREAMS a) This is a slightly oppressing dream. A man dressed in black is chasing me. Im in a kind of rounded building with floors as if they are perforated in a way that enables me to see the floors above me, as well as the lower floors. I cannot hide because everything is round. I realise that Im dreaming. I jump, trying to reach the floor below. By some miracle I change into a woman during the jump. Ive made some time and distance from the man in black, but hes going to arrive soon. The light is coming from above so I hide in the shadow close to the floor. Whenever I wish it, I can become invisible. Hes coming; I had not seen him come down. I run. Theres a corridor, I run inside it. Hes waiting for me. Im calm. I stop. I stand in front of him. Hes got a hood over his face. He doesnt move. I ask him: Who are you? No answer. I ask again, without success. Hes not moving. I walk back. A detail has changed, theres a black cow, standing beside a chasm. It feels like it is linked with my former attacker. I push the cow into the chasm. This oppressing person was a recurrent actor in my dreams. I havent met him again since this dream with the cow. Its a purification of my subconscious. I had undergone less than 3 months of practice when this dream occurred. a) Im with a group of friends. We are walking on the edges of the forest of the village where I was born. Theres a jolt. Nothing feels wrong in my dream state. A few seconds later theres a second jolt coupled with the sound of an impressive storm rumbling. Im sitting on the floor felling like Im partially blended with the concrete. Im now in my flat with the same friends. One of them is unconscious. G. is missing. We are wondering why. We try to wake up N., though without success. We look at each other with surprise, but without worry. The scene alters again. Im now alone with A. We are in an unknown place, in a room with a strange architecture. Theres a big glass window. I cant see whats outside. People are coming towards us; they are really small, a bit strange. When they are close they spray us with their water guns. The scene is changing again. Im still with A. We are flying at high velocity in a sort of tunnel. We each go through some kind of window that bursts into pieces. In front of us there are 3 little beings that we met earlier. The tunnel is narrowing. We go into a little hole in the wall. The tunnel is really, really small. We can see the exit. We land flat on our bellies in a restaurant kitchen. Everything looks very modern. Someone takes us to a table. A very normal and nice woman is talking to us. She ends up giving us a job. I look through the window and it feels like Im in a scene of the 5th element. Page 26 This dream happened during the same period. Even though it feels ordinary, it left me with a strong impression I could not forget. Something disturbing that I could not explain. It was as vivid as my first lucid dreaming. DREAMS RELATED TO THE PRACTICE OF PHOSPHENISM a) Im on my balcony and I look around. I can see a group of persons below that seem to be organising something. I approach them. I jump over the banister of the 12th floor down to the ground. I get closer to the people I targeted while flying. Its a group of Dr LEFEBUREs students. A 30 years old man spontaneously offers me to join the group. A child, a little girl, is showing us how to practice correctly the lateral sways. While doing them I experience things I had never felt before. After a period of practice the group moves and my dream becomes ordinary again. After this dream of initiation I knew exactly what the correct energetic lines for synchronisation were. During the dream, I could feel a vibration which connected my temples. Furthermore, the child who showed us the technique in the dream also accompanied me in several other dreams. a) - This next dream of initiation happened on the same night. The same group of people gather on the other side of a door. People are either alone or in pairs. We are in a big park. Theres grass surrounded by beautiful trees. I cant see further than that. Couples and single persons visit in turn the school teacher who was with the little girl earlier. Im with the little girl near a bench. Its my turn to visit the teacher next, Im the last one. The little girl signals me not to worry. Im going. Im getting closer to a tree. Notes of music are stuck on it. The school teacher asks me to vibrate some mantras. I do it. I float and get closer to the matching notes. Im doing well. b) At the end of the exercise we thank each other and I leave. Im still in the park and a normal dream ensues. What is surprising here is that several experiences can fit into one another. I dont know if the initiation of this dream continued in the normal dream but I recall gaining consciousness as if I were walking through a door (which is quite symbolic). c) I had a few more dreams related to the practice of Phosphenism. I saw my etheric body standing near my bed as I was sleeping. I could only see its nadis and energetic plexuses. I also dreamed of the pronunciation of the OM mantra and of the colour of the point of concentration. ASTRAL TRAVEL (OR OUT OF BODY DREAMS IN SUPERIOR REALMS) a) Im at work but all the furniture of my office is outdoors. I realise that Im dreaming. My body is on a chair and I fly off. Im translucent. Im teasing my colleagues who dont seem to pay much attention to the fact that Im gliding around them. After a short while B is fed up and goes back inside. I follow her. She grabs a hair dryer and tries but fails to push me away. She runs away discouraged. I decide to go out. I feel strange. My facial muscles are contracting. My lips are folding back on themselves. I meet my apprentice who is going to pass her exams. She hasnt got time to help me. THE MAN-LIGHT Page 27 I decide to go back home. I take the road towards the train station but I cant fly. My double, (astral body), is submitted to more and more of the same tensions as before. I sit in the middle of a busy street. No one pays attention to me. A roughneck kicks me lightly as he passes by. I make him flee and start walking again. I wonder at what time my bus is leaving because Im still far from the station and I havent checked the time. Tensions start again and I have to lie down. An old woman starts enquiring about my well-being. She is worried. I talk to her a bit and she tells me her name. The discomfort is strong. Suddenly theres a terribly strong buzzing noise, like the one from the back ground of the gyroscopic CD, track1. Im strongly aware that Im dreaming. I tell myself that I dont have to suffer. Subsequently, I take off and fly back down to earth at tremendous speed. I dont stop. Everything is trembling. The sound is still there, alternating. I find myself floating in the cosmos. A symbol representing Ajna is floating in space. It appears at the same time as the buzzing sound and as it fades out, a blue luminous circle appears in place of the symbol. I m still totally conscious. Im floating in the mist of really amazing sparkling colours. They are terribly bright, though I have no discomfort. The contrast with the dark is magical. I can see nebulas and vortexes. Giant spermatozoon-like beings (100 times the size of my astral body), translucent and lightly orange are floating nonchalantly. I dont have a double any more. Im floating. I decide to change zone and enter one of these vortexes. Im in the 80s. My father is waiting for me on the platform of the underground as I get down from the wagon. Im still fully conscious. I greet him and ask him what he is doing here. He says that he is waiting for his partner. She is a bit further with a pram in which my young avatar sleeps with his little brother. My mother is with his godfather who is telling her goodbye. I get closer to the pram to see better, and the dream looses its stability. I turn around on myself like some authors suggest to do in such a scenario but it doesnt work at all. Therefore I decide to change zone before it is too late. I take off and plunge through the ground. Im in space flying at an incredible speed. It is a stunning sensation. One of the large beings I was talking about earlier is passing really close to me. Its so huge. Its beautiful. I had never seen such amazing colours. I visit another beautiful zone which is not so active. I leave at high speed. I see a tremendous amount of images. I know I could stop but Im not tempted. I keep cruising forward amidst the colours. After a while I feel that the dream is ending. This was one of the most intense out of body dreams I have ever experienced. Im not a specialist but according to one of Dr Lefebures books, (The 7 notches of Out of Body Experience), this is the 6th. b) Most of the experiences occurred after exercises I did while falling asleep. For example, I could mention an experience I had regarding the luminous aspect of Kundalini. One night as I was falling asleep, I visualised a red dot on my base charka and another one on the crown charka. I experienced consciousness during sleep : a luminous, very fast and ascendant current made me change plane in a deluge of vibrations. This kind of phenomenon happened several times even in dreams that initially began normally. This experience either was followed by an ecstatic phase or a normal dream. Within ecstatic experiences I was blessed by several visits through the High Astral. According to Gilles GABLAINs book The Man of Light, the High Astral plane is about ecstatic sensations. The first time I awoke within it, I was caught in such a powerful descending spiral that I called for help. I actually woke up several times anxious that Daniel might have heard my calls Since the course, my experiences are clearer. These last days I recall at least one experience per week. This is the result of 2 to 3 hours of daily practice and Id like to thank my partner for her patience and understanding. Page 28 NIGHT ENCOUNTERS a) Im now going to talk about a sensitive subject upon which Im not going to go into too much detail. I occasionally met Daniel and Dr LEFEBURE in the astral plane. I also met people that I did not necessarily know. On such occasions I was taught exercises. We took part in tasks which purpose is still unknown to me today. We occasionally had fun. One night we were watching a kind of slide show of faces in 3D. On another occasion we were watching a show, and on another one we were by the bed of a sick person ; I was told off because I had a negative gesture at the end of our meeting. I had not realised that it was an actual experience rather than a mundane dream. Experiences are facts. They can be overlooked on account of their subtlety. To begin with, experiences of coherent astral activity are mixed up within the ordinary dream state, and later on the distinction becomes sharper. SENSATIONS DURING THE WAKING STATE Here is a testimony of what can happen during training. a) I came back from work tired and with little motivation. As I stopped the car I noticed that my double had a backing movement like if I had braked too suddenly. Therefore I decided to do a short session: Tensions, Breathing, and Ocular convenrgence. After a difficult start, Im experiencing a real pleasure while doing the Tensions. Sensations expand as I release the tensions, as if my limbs were expanding. Then, I feel a winding sensation in my midsection. It quickly turns into a sensation of consciousness expansion. My visual chaos turns into the cosmos and Im taken away: the sensation of speed is strange and powerful. As I feel a tension in my whole body, I find myself in the cosmos again in the shape of a sphere. Im literally Page 29 taken from left to right in a rotation on myself: a most agreeable sensation, like on a merry-go-round. My double is nothing like it usually is. It is now a sphere with the top and bottom slightly flattened. After enjoying this state for a while, I started to practice square breathing, together with an undulation with the point of concentration. While my double is winding on a 2 seconds rhythm, Im paying attention to the breathing sensations at the level of the epiphysis where horizontal channels of the nose meet the vertical channels of the throat. With each retention of breath, my double is ascending. It feels like Im taken away by a multicoloured river of light. Because of my relaxed state and positive state of mind, my breathing is particularly slow. After some time, to end the session, I decide to do some ocular convergence. After three phosphenes, a sensation emerges from my perineum. As I pay attention to it, the sensation unfolds and rises through my spine to my navel where it stops. I do one more phosphene and the sensation gets stronger. I straighten my body so my back is as straight as possible and I redirect my attention to the perineum. There I feel a kind of knot. As I focus my attention, I hear a small bang and the sensation starts to rise again. I see lights and my whole double is wriggling, as if the energy was rising from the base through the whole body. These sensations become stronger and stronger. I do another phosphene. After a small snapping sound, my Hara starts to rotate. The energy rises to my shoulder blades and stops there. I focus on this point and after a small snapping sound the energy rises again. Then everything gets carried away. I see glitter which rises in vertical streams in my visual field. This has nothing to do with my usual visual chaos. Im talking here about myriads of minuscule particles rising into infinity. In the background there are all those beautiful colours and a sense of very powerful energy. It feels like Im sucked out of myself. The energy rises to my neck where an energy centre is activated. It feels like my skull literally fills up with energy. Sensations are stronger and stronger. So is the light. The glitter changes into threads. Im chasing for details and I notice that Im observing the back of my spine, as if I was behind myself watching my back. At this point, the phenomenon is reversed. The glitter starts to move downwards and my chakras start to rotate one after the other. I can see my aura with my eyes closed. As I think that the experience is ending, I feel a tremendous sensation of speed: Im then going through a tunnel. I find myself floating in emptiness amongst huge geometrical shapes. I get sucked in by one of the shapes. It is a cross that rotates upon itself; it is made of 2 giant bricks surrounded by 2 giant rings. My trajectory has been deviated by the centrifuge force. I feel like an ant. Its amazing. My double keeps vibrating and the sensation of speed remains and makes me feel euphoric. Slowly the sensations diminish. Later I went out for fresh air. The sensation of speed was still there, and remained with me until I went to sleep. CONCLUSION I have been practicing seriously for only one and a half years. I let you imagine the experiences that may come after 5, 10 or 15 years of practice ! Page 30 PI DIRECTED BY DARREN ARONOFOKSKY CINEMA T his black and white film was made in 1997. It was Darren Aronofskys first long feature. He received the prize for the best film director at the Sundance festival in 1998. Besides the sun connotation of the festivals name, this dark, intense, mathematical and mystical thriller, shines through its scenario filled with odd references to Dr Lefebures work. The scene takes place in New York, probably in the 80s, in the vibrant district of Chinatown. Our hero, Max Cohen, is a genius in mathematics, he works alone on a massive computer to discover and extract the formula for life, the equation that will bring order to the universe. With the help of a computer called Euclid, he is seeking the truth. Theres a data-processing bug ; and just before collapsing, his computer spits out a formula made up of 216 numbers: this could be the equation he was looking for ! Some people interested in financial ends and spiritual powers would do anything to get hold of this magical formula in order to reach their goal. However, Max wont accept any of their propositions, and so ensues a cat and mouse game that Ill let you discover for yourself, if you choose to watch this film one day. Having described the setting of the film, Im now going to introduce the parallels between this film and the phosphenic techniques. Here is what the hero says first: When I was a kid my mum used to tell me not to look directly at the sun, so I did it when I was 6 years old. Doctors did not know whether Id regain sight or not. I was terrorised alone in this darkness. Slowly the light began to filter through the bandages and I could see again. But some thing had changed in me. Indeed Max became a genius. As a child he intensely trained in Phosphenism without knowing it. Later in the film, the hero tells this story again adding a few details. To begin with it blinded me but it had happened before so I kept looking, forcing myself not to blink, then the light began to dissipate, my pupils were like pin heads and everything became clear. For just a moment I understood everything. As he recounts this, the hero is energetically walking in the streets of New York. Aronofsky manages to zoom in on Maxs face while there is a reflection of the sun on the city buildings just at the level of his eyes. We can imagine that with such precise cinematography, Aronofsky is subtly referring to the practice of Phosphenic Mixing. While he is meditating on his work, Max watches the branches of the trees as they sway in the wind : This also reminds us of an exercise... doesnt it? Furthermore, in a discussion with a kabbalist met in a cafe, they agree that in nature everything is ordered by mathematics and that everything is spiral. One of them says: It is like those shapes we find in nature, like the sunflower. There were millions of examples that could have illustrated his point but the sunflower was by Stphane Page 31 chosen: a solar plant with whirling patterns, it is the symbol of Phosphenism. When he is in doubt and intellectually uncertain, Max visits Sol, his mathematics master. Together they talk about Maxs research and play Go. Sol explains to Max the following : In ancient times, Japanese people used to consider the board of Go like a small representation of the universe. When it is empty, everything is understandable and in obvious order, game possibilities are infinite. A game of Go has much in common with snow flakes, there can never be two of the same. The snow flake allegory was Dr Lefebures leitmotiv - he used the concept to express that the workings of Phosphenism are the same for everyone, but that its repercussions are unique, and lead to a personal and distinctive self- development. Let me remind you of this sentence of Dr Lefebure: Individuals are like snowflakes, they all form different patterns, even though all the angles that form them are 60 angles. Interesting coincidence dont you think ? Because of violent migraines provoking hallucinations and paranoia, he passes out in the subway and wakes up at the end of the line in Coney Island. The sea is front of him, as is the sun, which shines beautiful reflections upon the waves (the film director insisted on this point). In this scene, Max is considering whether or not he is going mad, and if he should give up his research. The effects of mixing thoughts with the phosphenes soon take place: Max is drawn to a spiral shell which shows him the way: to keep on going until the end. Furthermore, the spiral as a symbol is omnipresent (the milk in the coffee, the golden number, the smoke of the cigarette, the observation under a microscope of a substance discharged by the computer, the Go game pieces arranged in a spiral, a galaxy, a sunflower, etc) The spiral is a core emblem of this film. Continuing with his research on the famous Pi number sequence, there is a point where he is concentrating and he sways backwards and forwards. Then he stops and brings his pen up to his third eye, exactly as if he were following the advice of Dr Lefebure in the practice of his ocular convergence exercises. This film is full of this type of references; though it is only after watching PI a few times that I noticed the uncanny correlation with Phosphenism. It is one of my favourite films. I like its aesthetics, scenario, rhythm, and sound track. It is a story of a remarkable quest, which reflects wonderfully the quest of Dr Lefebure.
