Have you ever seen someone sleep walk in front of you? Sleep-talking?

And the scariest part someone scream in the middle of night. All these 3 behaviour is related to a sleep disorder called Parasomnia. Parasomnia is defined as unpleasant, undesirable or experiential phenomena occur at sleep onset, within sleep or during arousals from sleep. Duke Institute for Brain Sciences conducted a research on brain activity during 3 stages, when a person is awake, when a person is about to fall asleep and when a person is in deep sleep. They found that, the brain activity is very high during deep sleep. This is when some malfunction of neurochemistry in the brain leads to unconscious physical movement. The three common types of parasomina are the sleepwalking, sleep talking and sleep-terrors. Let me start off with sleepwalking. Sleepwalking occurs when a person appears to be awake and moving around, but is actually asleep. Their eyes are open with glassy stare, but have no memory of their actions. This disorder is common in children aged between 6 12 years old, however, sleeping walking can occur among adults too. Waking up the sleepwalker is not dangerous, but the sleepwalker will be confused for a short time upon awakening. Sleepwalking can be fun but dangerous because they are unaware of what they are doing. There was a case happened Canada, where the sleepwalking leads to homicide. The second type of Parasomnia sleeps talking. This is a common type of Parasomnia, even Ive personally seen my brother talking in sleep. Sleep-talking is totally harmless but can be disturbing to sleep partners or family members. The sleep-talk normally start off with simple sound to a longer speech and usually their speech are not clear. Sleep-talking is similar to sleepwalking where the sleep talker does not have memory of their speeches. Sleep-talking occurs because of external factors such as fever, emotional stress or sometimes due to alcohol abuse. The third type of Parasomnia is sleep-terrors or also known as night terrors. This will occur when the person is awakened from sleep, and begin with a panicky scream. Once this person woke up from sleep, they will be in a fear, rapid breathing, and sweating. For adults, this episode usually occurs due to psychological effects as from drugs, or medication. For kids, night terrors usually occur about 2 or 3 hours after a child falls asleep. There are a few stages of sleep for, such as non-rapid eye movement stage and the rapid eye movement stage. When the sleep transitions from Non REM to REM, sleep terrors will occur which causes some sudden reactions which leads to screaming and fear. In conclusion, all the 3 types of parasomnia, the sleepwalking, sleep-talking and sleep terrors usually do not hold any memory. The person only gets to know from a second person. In this modern world, most people are affected by work stress, restless work which becomes the main contribution to Parasomnia. Parasomnia is not a permanent disorder but a psychological disorder which can be cured.
