Company: British Airways Job: flight attendant Current activities: ensuring that all safety regulations are followed. Giving information to passengers about expected flight time and unusual weather or flying conditions.Checking that the in-cabin emergency and first aid equipment is working properly and that the plane is stocked with amenities such as beverages and snacks.

UNIT 3 1. Thomas Cook is hoping to enter the Serbian market with its holiday offers. You are their marketing manager and you have three minutes to present an overview of Thomas Cook and its possible strenghts on a new market. UNIT 7 Brainstorm a solution to the problem: think what the problem is what is the reason of that problem give possible solutions to the problem and suggest further steps

Large hotel chain has a wide range of hotels all over the world. All their hotels are on attractive locations in all major cities but mainly attract older people. Customers are deserting them and overnight stays have fallen for 40%. They are losing market share to smaller more modern hotels. The chain hasnt made almost any profit in the last three years.

Situation: You have to explain to your team how you plan to cut costs by 15 % next year without losing any jobs.

UNIT 4 1. Opening meeting/evaluate performance Sunny Travel travel agency

Person A: start the meeting / greet and welcome participants / introduce new participants / explain the background of the meeting (new hotels and resorts in offer for new summer season) / purpose of the meeting (informing all the staff about new offers) / hand over to first speaker (Person B) Person B: greet everyone / setting objectives of your talk / reporting on the subject in question (new hotels and resorts in offer for new summer season) / ask for comments 2. Making agreement / presentation Person A and Person B should decide on the destination for incentive travel abroad which they are organising in their company. Each individual should report his/her choice before making an agreement. 1. Dont forget that each person should have a chance to speak. Encourage discussion

UNIT 5

1. Dealing with problems (making phone calls / predicting consequences / suggesting actions / promising actions) Person A: You are at Heathrow Airport. Its 8.00 oclock and you should be on the plane by now. But there has been a problem with the computer system at the airport. It means that nobody can check in for the flights. There are long queues of people waiting at the check-in desks. The situation is chaotic. Theres no information about whats going to happen. You dont know how long you will be delayed. Phone your partner in Barcelona and explain the problem. You dont have to take any decision. End by saying youll call back when you have more information. Person B: You are waiting your business partner from London. You hope that you will sign a very important contract today. Signing that contract can get you a promotion. You are just about to send someone to pick him/her at the airport when you receive a phone call from him/her telling you that he/she doesnt know if he/she is going to make it today. 2. Dealing with problems (making phone calls / predicting consequences / suggesting actions / promising actions) Person A: Your work in Sunny Travel travel agency. Youve just received a phone call from the driver of a bus with 40 passengers on their way to family resort in Greece. The bus has had an accident. It skidded out of control and hit a tree. The driver and all the passengers are unhurt but the bus is badly damaged. It is about 100 km from the final destination. Person B: You work as a bus driver for Sunny Travel travel agency. On your way to Greece youve just had an accident and the bus is badly damaged. You are waiting for police. Nobody in the bus is hurt but the passengers are quite nervous and would like to reach the destination as soon as possible. You are now about 100 km from the resort. You call travel agency to try to find the best possible solution. UNIT 7 Student A and B: Brainstorm a solution to the problem:

Problem: large chain of department stores is having problems with internal oranisation and as a result is losing clients. The main problems are: no proper advertisements, high prices, shortstaffed...

UNIT 11 Student A: Booking Manager You have discovered that you made and error in the booking. You have booked two companies into the same room on the same day. You will have to chnage the booking of the second company and you have two other rroms available but they are smaller. One holds 25 people and the other 15. Possible solutions: The room for 30 people on another date. One of the smaller rooms at a small discount. Use of both smaller rooms for the price of one room. A full refund plus a small discount off their next booking.

Student B: Sales Manager There is a problem with your conference room booking at the hotel. Here are some points to consider in your discussion with the Booking Manager: You dont want to change the date of the conference because this would disrupt everybodys schedules. You dont really want to find another venue as there isnt much time before next week. As the hotel has made a mistake, you feel strongly that they should offer a reasonable financial compensation. Probably not all 30 delgates will attend. There are usaully 4 or 5 people who cant make it.
